Nightmares Paradise [LITRPG System Integration]

Chapter 62 [Thou Shalt Stand Before The Boundless Maw]

Sariel somewhat regretted her decision to follow the aliens known as Wilheim and Avahni back to their campsite. Without a shadow of a doubt, both herself and her brother were indebted to the floresiensis and lutin. Despite her having saved Avahni in return, the beautiful green-haired woman had lost her fish companion, causing her to burst into tears, clutching at the splatter of red-golden blood that belonged to Huo Liyu.

The little root creature that also appeared to be the woman's companion swiftly moved towards her, nudging its plump body into her side. Avahni clutched at the one called Ru Luan Di as if the creature were lifeline, unable to return the hug due to its two missing limbs.

Sariel watched as Wilheim approached Avahni, patting her on the back as she continued to sob. The young satanas glanced towards her brother who was still unconscious after the procedure, noticing that his bleeding had stopped and that the black vein-like patterns that stretched out from the wound had completely disappeared.

The green satanas let out a small sigh of relief, still clutching at her brothers hand.

'We're safe brother. For now at least,' the older sister thought to herself.

Avahni and Wilheim had introduced themselves moments after, despite the former still crying her eyes out. There was something still beautiful about the woman, despite the sweat and dirt clinging to her face and the hairs that clung to her ears and brow.

The short, hazelnut-skinned humanoid pointed in the direction that he came from, making certain gestures that gave Sariel the impression of safety, something that the young woman had not experienced in quite some time.

Nodding, Sariel went to fetch her brother, picking him up with her enhanced strength, granted to her through a Fragment Of Physique.

She did not notice Wilheim glance at her, taking note of her short figure and wiry frame.

After encountering that ashen-skinned abomination of a Knight that almost killed her brother, the young satanas thought that there would safety in numbers and accepted the short alien's proposal, following them back to the campsite.

Although she was hoping for a Safe Zone, Sariel was pleasantly surprised at the established campsite the two aliens had created. A wide, open riverbank with access to a renewable source of fresh water. Having positioned their campfire in the centre of the beach, one would be able to perceive approaching threats the moment their figures moved past the tree line.

Sariel did notice that there were three distinct logs placed around the campfire, although glanced towards the fat plant creature that walked beside Avahni, thinking that it was the one who had claimed the third seat.

Wilheim gestured towards the campsite, gesturing for Sariel to let her brother down anywhere on the beach. The green-skinned humanoid thought that he was gesturing towards that strange rectangular shaped blanket, moving to gently place her brother down on it, before feeling a hand clamped down upon her wrist.

The satanas immediately turned her head, her eyes widening as she noticed that Wilheim had closed the distance between the two of them in the span that it took to blink.

Given the sudden-closeness between them, Sariel almost wanted to cast one of her Shield Trait Spells, before noticing a strange splattering of pale brown dots across his face, giving the short alien a somewhat youthful appearance.

Sariel watched as Wilheim shook his head, gesturing towards himself and Avahni, before pointing back towards the forest.

"Wilheim," he said, pointing to himself.

"Avahni," he said, pointing to the lutin sitting beside the fire.

"Jon," he said, pointing back towards the forest, causing Sariel to glance in that general direction.

The green-skinned woman realized why there were three logs placed next to the campfire. Her eyes lingered on the synthetic blanket near her feet, in addition to the pair of bags that were scattered between two of the logs.

'So there are three aliens that have made this place their home,' Sariel thought to herself.

Although she did not know what manner of alien this "Jon" individual was, it seemed as though he had been quite fortunate to be brought into the Pure Room while having several of his possessions on him. Sariel noticed that there was a small makeshift clothesline hanging several metres away, with clothes in a style that she had never seen before.

While Sariel felt intrigued in the design of the clothes, the woman nodded, moving her brother closer towards the campfire, adjusting the positioning of his head and shoulder so that he remained upright rather than supine.

The three conscious humanoids settled around the campfire, Avahni still clutching Ru Luan Di close to her chest. Despite just having fought and protected each other from an approaching danger, there was a strange and indescribable tension throughout the camp. Sariel glanced towards both Wilheim and Avahni, the former still comforting the beautiful green-haired woman about the death of her fish companion.

The pair communicated using a shared language and immediately the young satanas felt the odd one out of the people present. Knowing that one of the mandatory tasks that the System had given her and everyone else within the System Introduction was to learn another language, Sariel seemed shocked that there were people that had already started to complete it.

The only words that Sariel was able to comprehend were the three names that Wilheim had spoken just moments ago. The satanas could hear the distinct focus on certain syllables whatever language the two of them were speaking, almost not noticing the stirring of the unconscious figure beside her.

"Shamael!" Sariel shouted, causing Avahni and Wilheim to glance towards her, also noticing the movements of the blue-skinned humanoid. Wilheim moved towards them, muttering the chant for [Celebration Of Thou Hallowed Halls] once again, filling Shamael with the soft and gentle warmth of a castle hearth.

Sariel watched as Wilheim cast the same recovery Spell on her brother; his form being enveloped in a gentle golden hue. Knowing that some of her own life natured spiritual energy had recovered since escaping from that Knight Ranked creature, Sariel also cast one of her recovery abilities.

Placing her hand on her brothers shoulder, Sariel muttered the chant for her Spell [Tenderness Is The Gentle Hand Of Spring].

"We are thankful for the blessing of life and growth. We are thankful for the guidance of our ancestors, whose flesh and blood wrought us into existence. We are the children of spring, and it is through our hands that the fields and gardens are sown with the gift of tomorrow."

Sariel knew that she had not just recovered a portion of her brothers vitality but also blessed him with a powerful short-lived buff.

[Springs Blessing]: Temporarily increases all resistances for a short duration.

Shamael had allowed his sister to experiment on him, testing out how long his Spell considered a "short duration". After being granted an instance of [Springs Blessing] and stopping all forms of channelling that the effect description had mentioned, a single instance of the buff lasted roughly six seconds before vanishing.

Even though Sariel wished that the effect lasted longer without her needing to channel more life natured spiritual energy to keep it active, she never once regretted integrating the Fragment Of Spring that manifested [Tenderness Is The Gentle Hand Of Spring].

The green satanas channelled the effects of her Spell for thirty seconds, before feeling that most of her recovered life natured spiritual energy had been expended. Although it was an unbelievably hasty decision, one that her brother would have chastised her over, Sariel did not hesitate for a single second while keeping her recovery Spell active.

Watching as her brothers eyes started to flicker, opening for a few seconds before closing, Sariel glanced towards her status page, trying to remember the effects of each of her abilities.

Unlike her brother, Sariel possessed but a single offensive ability. Although the ability manifested from her Fragment Of Devour [Thou Shalt Stand Before The Boundless Maw] was a form of magical shielding, it allowed Sariel to devour the lifeforce and spiritual energy of those in physical contact with the shield, allowing her to play a more stalwart role beside her brother.

[Fragment Of Devour] [Thou Shalt Stand Before The Boundless Maw] (Shield, Barrier, Shield, Spell, Debuff]

Effect (Mortal): Chant, extending one of your hands forward. Manifest a curved magical shield around your extended hand, capable of devouring constructs of spiritual energy and the lifeforce of those that come into physical contact with the shield. Targets that have their lifeforce devoured will be inflicted with an instance of [Hungry Space].

The height and width of the Spell is determined through the amount of spiritual energy poured into it.

[Hungry Space]: Inflicts a continuous space-natured damage over time effect. Physical space around oneself stretches in random directions, resulting in abnormal reactions within organs and glands. Additional stacks have an additive effect.

It was also Sariel's favourite ability. Although she found herself using her ability [The Shadows That Dwell Between Us] more than any other ability, [Thou Shalt Stand Before The Boundless Maw], held a special place in her heart.

"Sariel… water," the sound of her brothers voice breaking her out of her small reverie, watching as Wilheim extended what appeared to be some sort of synthetic flask towards her.

The green-satanas gave Wilheim a thankful nod, before unscrewing the lid and bringing the flask to her brothers lips, watching as the blue-skinned satanas used his non-injured arm to clench it in one hand. Shamael drunk the entirety of the bottle in just a few seconds, letting out a loud gasp for air.

His chest rose and fell, wincing at the remnants of pain that shot down the length of his arm. Shamael unconsciously tightened his grip on the hand that was clenched around his own, smiling softly as he felt his sisters presence beside him.

His vision was somewhat blurry, but Shamael opened his eyes, looking towards the figure that had obscured the sunlight from his eyes.

"Sister…" he muttered, his voice still coarse from all the screaming.

Shamael had not heard a response, feeling someone wrap their arms around his chest, careful not to touch the flesh near where he had been wounded. Despite being unable to see who it was, Shamael knew that there was no-one else in this world who had cared for him in a way that his sister did.

Raising his uninjured arm, the blue-skinned satanas placed it on top of his sisters head, patting her short, green-coloured hair. As someone who was chosen to become a member of their warrior caste, her sister had cut her hair several days before beginning her training, an indication of her resolve and courage.

Shamael on the other hand, was given the privilege of becoming a shipwright and being taught the methods and techniques of crafting small fishing boats and enormous naval battleships. His initiation transforming his once green coloured skin blue, after receiving the baptism of the Ocean Goddess.

"I thought… I thought I lost you Sha.." he heard his sister mutter.

The younger Lemnos sibling expression softened, as he patted he continued to pat his sisters head, shaking his own from side to side. The blue-skinned satanas sat upright, adjusting his posture to not disturb Sariel, quickly noticing that a short-hazelnut skinned humanoid and beautiful green-haired humanoid were staring at him, causing him to blink in bewilderment.

Glancing downwards, Shamael nudged his sister causing her to lift her head.

"Sister… are these people the ones who-."

Shamael's words were cut off, as the sound of footsteps crackling through the brush echoed throughout the riverbank. Wilheim and Avahni, and Sariel and Shamael all turned towards the source of the footsteps, watching as a tall, pale-skinned humanoid stepped through the tree line.

His expression was blank, yet his eyes narrowed at the sight of the two satanas.
