Mage Legend

Chapter 589: Travel and Travel Beyond Chapter Sixty-Seven Progress

"Move out, you bunch of idiots, get your butts off the ground!" The Abyss Demon's roar marked the beginning of Lynch's participation in the blood battle. No matter which space or race they came from, everyone stood up; their feet either moved willingly or were forced to start moving forward.

The guy in the black robe used a staff to support his body, barely getting to his feet. He was slightly shorter than Lynch, perhaps just an illusion caused by his hunched and bent posture. Lynch knew that the two mages would not stand side by side to fight; everyone viewed the other as a potential threat in their hearts, causing them to hold back. He gave the black-robed mage a slight smile, then left with the Desire Demon, joining a faster-moving group.

The black-robed mage nodded and also disappeared into the demonic army.

The road to the battlefield was filled with hardships; even with a devil's body, it was difficult to endure such a brutal environment. The air and earth constantly sapped the energy of the marchers, and now every drop of evaporating sweat drained the confidence of the combatants. In such circumstances, only the most foolish creatures would still entertain the thought of "surviving," because the wise ones had already set their sights on the pockets of those around them—where there might be supplies, things that could keep them alive a little longer.

The devil's army kept advancing, but in this environment, it was impossible to know the exact direction anymore. They marched day and night, stopping only when the sky grew dark and dim for rest. Pieces of meat were distributed into the soldiers' hands, still bearing the wounds and marks of blades and swords. Lynch never ate the things given by the devils; besides the Elf Cookies, he wouldn't eat anything. The Desire Demon Eryies couldn't swallow the elven food because the white pastries would scorch her throat. Every time Lynch watched the Desire Demon eat the devil-distributed meat, he couldn't help but feel a pang of pity.

But even those rotting foods attracted wicked hearts of those eager to spy. The Desire Demon could get an extra portion of food from Lynch, and these things were already a huge temptation in the eyes of many imps. They tried every means possible to snatch even a scrap of leftovers, but to these foolish beings, the threats made by the mage were still incomprehensible.

Lynch put down his magic wand, and three more charred corpses fell behind him. Apart from the little "sizzle" of escaping gas that caught the attention of a few nearby, the mage did not attract the managing devil's attention. Along the way, Lynch had taken care of no fewer than a hundred imps, and the speed at which these creatures came forward to die impressed Lynch.

"Eryies, where are we ultimately heading?" When Lynch finally couldn't resist asking the question, he saw the answer.

The entire army stopped at the banks of the Nether River; this river connected all the Outer Planes, and along it, one could travel to all worlds. Thus, a vast number of devils began constructing large ships for advancing. There wasn't any wood here; they could only make ships out of iron plates. The imps' workmanship was very crude, having undergone no training and given only half a day to observe longtime shipbuilders, relying solely on their memory.

The riverbank was piled with primitive materials; those hill-like iron blocks were characteristic of Bator Hell's second layer. Here, iron was as common as dirt. Lynch had noticed this long before setting out and was continually striving to refine high-quality materials for future battles along the journey.

Seeing others already start working on building the crossing ships while Lynch still lingered in the shadows to avoid the broiling heat without any sign of beginning, Eryies grew particularly worried. She stood by the mage's side, using her wings to shade him, and then spoke, "Darling, when exactly will you start building our ship? Or do you plan on flying over the long journey?"

"Eryies, I'm not worried about the ships; I just dislike working with those devils." Lynch's gaze remained fixed on the giant book in his hand, not even looking up. "Compared to staying inconspicuous, building a ship is a very simple task for me."
