Ronan didn't waste any time in changing his focus from the snipers to the captain. The gold-uniformed sword-wielding foe made a beeline for Ronan, moving much faster than even the device-boosted lieutenants. It was obvious that the difference in stats and levels couldn't be overcome through technology alone.
Despite the difference in level between Ronan and the captain he didn't find that he was outmatched. If anything, from the first clash of blades, Ronan gained the upper hand. Each strike of his left the captain on poor footing and exposed more weaknesses. He was using his new ice enchantment and the slowing effect was potent. Within three exchanges he had the Agrathen stumbling, and on the fifth strike, Ronan used surging strikes to combine with the guaranteed critical strike.
The first blow smashed the Agrathen's sword away from its chest, while the subsequent strikes tore into its pale blue flesh, tearing away chunks. By the time the last surging strike connected with the alien's torso, there wasn't much left of it except a bleeding head and a pair of disembodied feet.

He'd reached level 100 faster than ever before. He hadn't been counting, but he knew it couldn't have been more than half an hour since he arrived in Grathamor and already one of the captains lay dead at his feet. And not just any captain, but the one who had been the highest level of the trio from the previous iteration.

That meant there were at least two more captains to go, as well as the governor. First though, he needed to finish off the annoying gnats buzzing at the edges of the compound.
Ronan ran out of the gate that the captain had destroyed while charging two fresh rainbow bombs. He'd only managed to launch one before the captain arrived, being forced to let the other dissipate as he'd engaged it in battle.
The outside of the compound was even more chaotic. He could see more soldiers running about, mostly towards the slightly elevated towers at the four corners of the building he'd just exited, where there were entrances that allowed them to get up to snipe at him.
Ironically it was the captain who had foiled that strategy by blasting open the gate and giving Ronan a free exit. Now that he was out, he finished charging the twin rainbow bombs and then let them fly towards the two closest towers. They exploded in a kaleidoscopic shattering, the screams of the dying soldiers like music to his ears.
At this point killing more of the ordinary soldiers held little benefit for him. They didn't give any levels, and while the credits would be nice, he would prefer to just get this conquest over with and obtain the real reward he was here for—the gladiator shards.
He did want to push beyond level 150 and possibly even 200 in this iteration, but that would be far easier to do in the second step, when he went to the alien prison with all the juicy, high-level inmates waiting for him like experience pigs for the slaughter. And this time he would be even tougher than before, ready to fight his way beyond that first level of the prison and to see what was waiting up above.
He tried to remember where the governor's tower was. It was tricky to get his bearings, given that the last time he came to Grathamor it was from the outside-in, but now he had simply appeared in a military compound that he didn't know the location of relative to anything he'd travelled through before.
Still, the tower was fairly easy to spot and he decided to just make a beeline for the centre of the city, which was roughly where it had been located. Setting off at a sprint, he soon left the chaos of the military compound behind. However, the loud alarm was still blaring and he realised it was a city-wide warning. Not that it mattered, at this point there were just a couple of Agrathen standing between him and victory in the first step of the path.
He made it a decent chunk of the way when he heard a familiar whining noise in the air. Ronan threw himself to the side right as the ground exploded in a blinding white flash. The street had been torn up by the cannon-fire and he whipped himself around to face the ship floating in the air above the houses. No, not the ship. The ships.
Two of them had arrived, the second just a few metres behind the first and charging up another cannon blast. Ronan didn't bother to evade this one, though. He immediately conjured a spear and pushed it to the limits of his sorcery, before empowering it with arcane piercing strike and enchanting it with explosion, then letting it fly with all his strength.
As the cannon fired a white-hot beam of destructive energy at him, the spear tore through the air at supersonic speed. A loud boom reverberated through the street as the cannon blast struck a magic money barrier. A few nearby buildings started to crack and fall apart from the impact, but it was nothing compared to the spectacular explosion that occurred when the spear struck the ship.
Ronan watched the spear hit the ship, dent the hull, pierce through it, then a moment later the entire thing crumpled in on itself before exploding in a beautiful cloud of blue and white flames, causing shards and chunks of searing hot metal to fly in all directions. A dull clang followed by a deafening blast reached his ears shortly after the ship had actually blown up, a testament to the speed of his throw.
The other ship was buffeted by the blast but not affected that much, and was already taking evasive manoeuvres while charging its cannon again. Ronan didn't plan to let it shoot him a third time, and was preparing another spear in hand.
He watched the ship intently, trying to follow the energy that was flowing through it. The signature was faint, but noticeable, and it let him know when the cannon would be ready and which of the thrusters it was planning to use to avoid his spear.
When he felt he had the flow down, Ronan wound his arm back and watched the trajectory of the ship. It was veering to the right and slightly down, but most of the energy was going towards the cannon and the right of the ship. He wasn't going to fall for such obvious misdirection.
When he leaned forward to begin the throw, he saw the ship immediately start moving to the left. A smile crossed his face as the spear rocketed out of his hand, right into the path of the ship's new trajectory. The sonic boom rocked the street a moment before the spear smashed through the ship and blew it into pieces. It felt like a game with how easy it was.
Reading the kill notifications he saw that he had killed two captains and a lieutenant. Both captains were the ones who had been part of the trio in the last iteration, meaning they had all been based out of Grathamor or somewhere nearby. His level had gone up again, but he was still a lower level than the governor. Despite that he doubted it would be a difficult fight, based on how little challenge the captains posed this time around.
He continued running towards the governor's tower. Eventually he spotted it after having to make two detours and change his heading. He stopped a short distance away to observe the tower, wondering if he would find the Agrathen governor in the same room as he had the last time.
Ronan didn't want to give the cowardly alien a chance to escape the face-to-face battle, so he had a better idea than just running in to confront Governor Garuku 1. He started to channel two rainbow bombs, observing the tower to try and work out where that escape ship was hidden. If he destroyed the escape route before the battle even began, it would be a simple affair.
About six seconds later both rainbow bombs were ready. His continued pushing the limits of the spell had really lowered the time it took to prepare a fully-powered one compared to the first time he cast it against the ant hordes. He took aim at the governor's tower and let the bombs fly, bringing his hammer into his hands and waiting for the moment his opponent would crawl from the wreckage.
