The mechanics of the world continued to grind as the Albrights fell into blissful slumber. The ancient mechanisms first awakened by the claiming of the coins caused other portions of the dead System to fizzle and spark, to attempt to resurrect and return to their true purpose.
These systems were less damaged than those currently engaged in deploying sentinels about the island, if for no other reason than they were less important and less connected to the corpse of the system as a whole. They were not even of tertiary importance, their existence having long been supplanted by the will and whims of a man long-dead.
Questing tendrils went out from these systems, seeking information. What was returned was scattered and broken, contradictions upon contradictions, utterly useless for making decisions. The island was alive. The island was dead. The island had been overrun by enemies. The island was a barren wasteland where nothing could survive.
These systems gathered the data as the dutiful servants they had once been. Processed it. Considered it. Came to the only conclusion it could.

The Empire had fallen. Had been shattered.
It was an outcome for which the System had no instructions. He who had once been Caesar had never bothered to put any in. For what reason would a man so assured of his power and godhood put forth instructions for an impossibility?
But here, its power tenuous as the heartbeat of a newborn lamb, was a connection.
The systems, as best they could, explored this new connection. These new connections, for there were two of them, barely functional. Infants in strength and intent.
But they were connected. And even these simple systems could taste the power of the Emperor on their souls. They were connected. They were of the Empire. And the Empire was broken.
The systems reached a conclusion, and a purpose.
Rebuild.
They sparked and sputtered, fighting to survive with the weight of the corpse on their back. And slowly, plans began to form and lists began to populate.
