The van slowly came to a halt.
Ahead, on either side of the road, two streets appeared, forming a T-shaped intersection. Those two streets were also lined with dim streetlights. The further away the lights were, the dimmer they became, looking like a row of feeble candles that might go out at any moment.
Li Ang didn't choose to turn left or right. This was because a European-style three-story villa was quietly situated in the middle of the T-shaped intersection.
The villa was built of red bricks. Its walls were overgrown with vines that had long since died, its windows were dirty, and its roof tiles were covered in grime, appearing as though no one had tended to them in a long time.
Inside, the villa was pitch-black, without any lights. The house covered a large area. Three roads each led to the villa's main entrance and two side doors, but these roads did not intersect. The outer walls of the villa were shrouded in darkness, making it seemingly impossible to climb them and jump to the other roads.
Moreover, by the front door of the villa stood a rotting, russet wooden sign with crooked writing on it:
[House of Integrity]
"House of Integrity?" Chai Cuiqiao mulled over the name, frowning. "What does that mean?"
"Honest and sincere?" Li Ang said casually, still sitting in the car. He looked around the villa, searching for a way to bypass the building.
He took the Beehive out of his backpack, releasing a swarm of Soldier Bees. He commanded them through the Queen Bee to fly to the roof of the house.
However, there appeared to be an invisible air barrier on the walls of the house. After the Soldier Bees flew to a certain height, they could not advance any further.
Li Ang tested it himself and encountered the same air wall. This made it impossible to pole-vault or climb the walls to the roof and then jump to the other roads.
"What should we do?" asked Miss Chai.
"We can only go in and have a look." Li Ang shook his head, raised his scythe, and approached the villa.
The villa's main door wasn't locked and was easily pushed open by Li Ang's blade.
What appeared before Li Ang's eyes was a decaying and dilapidated hall. A dark red carpet lay covered in dust. A crystal chandelier had fallen onto the stone floor, its shards scattered around. The walls, portraits, and fireplace—everything—was covered in dust.
The Y-shaped staircase was full of cobwebs. It was unclear how many years it had gone without being cleaned.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" Li Ang called out from the doorway. "I'm coming in if there's no answer?"
After waiting for a while, he took out the Beehive from his backpack again, ready to use the Soldier Bees to survey the interior structure of the house.
However, a series of footsteps, like water-soaked shoes squelching on the ground, came from upstairs. Then, an odd-shaped creature hopped down the Y-shaped staircase.
It was dark brown overall, with the outline of human limbs but no head. Its hands were huge, with only four fingers: three at the front of the palm and one at the back, extending backward like a chicken's claw.
Its legs were just as odd. The feet were broad and thick, resembling bear paws. Where its knees should have been, a beige, spring-like object took their place. Each time it moved forward, its body uncontrollably swayed back and forth, up and down.
On its chest were a pair of narrow, slanted eyes. Their irises were red, without any whites. Below the eyes was a huge mouth, filled with teeth, that almost spanned its entire chest.
The creature wore no clothing but had a strip of black cloth tied around its waist, seemingly serving as a tie.
Xing Tian? Or a modified version of Pokémon's Sand Rogue?
The creature hopped down the stairs and approached Li Ang, who was holding the Beehive. With a bow, as though it were a genteel butler, it spoke, "Respected visitor from a Different World, the House of Integrity welcomes your arrival."
"Visitor from a Different World?" Miss Chai exclaimed subconsciously. "Hey, it seems like this creature knows we're players."
"Hmm." Li Ang gestured for Miss Chai to stay calm. He remained composed in the driver's seat and calmly asked the modified Sand Rogue, "Who are you?"
"I am the Butler of the House of Integrity. You may call me Sir Nelson."
The headless creature, calling itself Sir Nelson, said with a smile, "The House of Integrity possesses a special Magic Power. She understands all, perceives all. No secret can hide in the presence of the House of Integrity."
"Really?" Li Ang smiled. "Then do you know the bank card PIN of the world's wealthiest person?"
"Uh?" Sir Nelson was stunned for a moment. "What?"
"Do you know the winning numbers for the next lottery? Do you know the results of the next national soccer team match? Do you know how the stock market will rise or fall tomorrow? Do you know the trend of gold prices in the coming months?" Li Ang fired off questions like a machine gun, even taking out paper and pen, his eyes gleaming, ready to jot down the other party's answers at any moment.
"Wait a minute!" Sir Nelson held up his hands, hastily saying, "I mean, the House of Integrity can uncover secrets, not that it can predict the future."
"Ah?" With a disappointed "TSK," Li Ang tossed down his paper and pen and said disdainfully, "And here I thought this house was something special. That's all?"
"It's not like that at all!" The modified Sand Rogue felt belittled and defended itself somewhat angrily, "The House of Integrity can dig out secrets buried very, very deep—secrets not even gods can hide in her presence."
"Oh." Li Ang replied indifferently, "How much per square meter? Is it more expensive than Tomson First Grade?"
"It's not about the price..." Sir Nelson shook his head, then suddenly realized he was being led by the nose. He took a deep breath, straightened his tie, and reverted to his original pretentious demeanor. "Heh, I know what you are thinking: deliberately using frivolous talk and ridiculous logic to lead others on, so as to cover up your true thoughts. You are that kind of person, aren't you? Strip away that slick, seemingly normal exterior, and what lies beneath is nothing more than an arrogant, aloof, indifferent, cruel, antisocial maniac."
"Heh heh." Li Ang grinned. "It seems you think you're very adept at understanding people. How about you come work at the club, huh? I know some wealthy ladies who would really like your type of fresh meat, Sand Rogue."
"Who's a Sand Rogue?!" Sir Nelson roared. "Stop giving me random names just because I don't have a head, will you?!"
"Okay, Sand Rogue. Got it, Sand Rogue," Li Ang nodded. "Are you really not considering my suggestion? Being a butler in this deserted old house is an underuse of your talents. Listen to me, go work at the club. With your ability to see through people, you could easily become a top host. Then someday, when a wealthy lady sees through your feigned strength, asks you to drop your guard and welcomes you into her heart...
Clench your teeth,
Grab onto the bed,
Even exhaustion is better than working a day job..."
SWOOSH—
The headless creature calling itself Sir Nelson suddenly lifted its foot. The spring at its knee instantly extended dozens of feet, and its foot kicked out, brushing past Li Ang's clothes.
"Please, do not refer to her as a 'broken house'," Sir Nelson said coldly, slowly retracting his foot. "Next time, I will aim for your head."
Li Ang raised an eyebrow and shrugged, saying nothing.
"You want to go to a place farther away, don't you?" Sir Nelson regained his composed Butler demeanor, smiling. "This is the only road here. If you want to go elsewhere, you'll have to enter the House of Integrity. Play a game with me, and I'll allow you to pass through here."
Li Ang said dispassionately, "Considering that kick you just launched, I have reason to believe this game could be very dangerous."
"As long as you don't break the rules, you'll be perfectly safe," Sir Nelson said with a smile. "If you win the game, not only will I let you pass through this house, but I will also give you a gift—the one you want most right now. For instance, an Alchemist's Scroll?"
An Alchemist's Scroll... This item was a prerequisite for repairing the Damaged Alchemy Magic Box, and also something Li Ang had been searching for all along.
"Interesting." Li Ang said with a detached smile, "What game do you want to play?"
Sir Nelson gave an exaggerated bow, straightened up, and said with a smile, "This game is called *Truth Moment*."
