Gamers Are Fierce

Chapter 351 Departure

After Smoker buried the two cards beneath a floor tile next to the statue's foot, several players tidied up the scene. They rearranged the long benches and used equipment, such as cameras, to take photos of the stained glass and other features inside the church. After ensuring nothing was missed, they left the church with Frederick, the lumberjack, who had been unconscious the entire time.

By now, the festive gathering in Hamelin Town was nearly over, and there were some pedestrians on the streets. The players found an inn to stay at (paid for by the awakened Frederick). At night, they all donned their Night Clothes to go out and gather information. This essentially involved entering the town's library to look through historical books, photograph maps, and search for traces of a supernatural power system in this world.

They acquired quite a few maps and historical records on the major kingdoms, including a detailed map of Rune Kingdom. However, they did not find any mystical books on local witchcraft or Alchemy, even in the homes of the mayor or the town's wealthy residents.

After a night of scouting, the players also discovered that the town's defensive forces were relatively weak, consisting of only about thirty professional soldiers. Moreover, these soldiers were just ordinary people with somewhat greater strength and slightly better combat skills, equipped with very ordinary armor and weapons.

According to some written documents, public order in this world—at least within Rune Kingdom—had improved considerably compared to a decade or so ago. Cannibal Tribes, such as the Jackalmen, and vicious Magical Beasts from the deep forests had been thoroughly swept by the Rune Kingdom's army (which included many Spellcasters with supernatural powers). Now, they were all kept penned in major cities. Consequently, townsfolk no longer had to fear the ravages of Magical Beasts or attacks by monstrous tribes.

As for the military power of Rune Kingdom, it primarily comprised a large army of ordinary people, supplemented by numerous Spellcasters and supernatural creatures, including enlisted Gryphons, Giants, Trolls, and Minotaurs.

Since Hamelin Town was rather isolated, this information existed only on paper, and most of the townspeople had never visited larger towns. Therefore, the players couldn't obtain more details through interrogation and would have to wait until they could visit the major towns themselves to investigate.

However, judging from the intelligence they had collected, even Rune Kingdom's overt military power was already considerable. Those Spellcasters who innately possessed supernatural abilities could at least cast a Fireball Technique or something similar. More advanced Spellcasters could even change the entire dynamic of a battlefield.

It's no wonder the human forces of this Fairy World were able to completely clear away such a massive number of demons and monsters in such a short time.

This kind of script world, filled with supernatural powers, is exactly what players love to encounter. As long as they could learn and master a supernatural power system, it would be a huge win. Even acquiring the bodies of just one or two supernatural creatures could fetch a good price in the real world; the task rewards were secondary in comparison.

However, according to those fragmentary records, it seemed the military might of the human side had only surged in recent years. Most local Spellcasters possessed innate abilities and had not formed a professional, learnable system. It was somewhat akin to the Dark Era in the real world, where Witches living in remote forests inherently possessed Divine Power.

It was unclear what connection existed between the unlearnable supernatural power system of this script world and the suddenly risen Snow Queen...

The next morning, the mayor invited Li Ang to his office early to continue their detailed discussion on the NBA league's operations. Li Ang met with the mayor. With his exceptional bluffing skills and a hand-drawn PPT that rivaled the quality of those from India, he wholeheartedly convinced the mayor that the NBA business league was Hamelin Town's only path to financial salvation.

Afterward, the mayor strongly urged Li Ang and the others to stay and help him expand the NBA league's market, at least to connect with surrounding towns and coax them into joining the basketball movement.

The mayor had good intentions. If Li Ang hadn't obtained the locations of the other Magic Mirror shards from the church, he might have cooperated, using the promotion of basketball as an opportunity to visit other towns. However, now that he knew the locations of all the Magic Mirror shards, he naturally couldn't stick to the original plan.

Li Ang secured a reward of twenty Gold Coins from the mayor with a detailed "NBA Expansion Plan" document. Citing the principle that "Monks must seek the True Scripture" as his reason, he tactfully declined the mayor's generous invitation.

Fortunately, Li Ang did not reject the mayor's further generosity. He obtained official identification documents for Hamelin Town from him, which meant that the players, including Frederick the lumberjack, now possessed something akin to good-citizen ID cards. Li Ang also had two additional documents in his pocket: one was a letter of recommendation from the mayor to his uncle—a Viscount of Rune Kingdom—recommending Li Ang for a position. The other was a Monk certification; its processing was nearly complete, and once stamped in the capital, Li Ang would be officially recognized as a Monk by Runes Official.

With money, identity documents, and a letter of recommendation, the players' movements within this land became much easier.

In the afternoon, the group rented a large carriage from a carriage service and headed towards the nearest location of a Magic Mirror shard.
