Gamers Are Fierce

Chapter 346: Parasitism

The worm was as thick as a human arm—plump, segmented, extremely flexible, and entirely pink. It had a pair of black, dot-like eyes on its head, one on each side, with a dense array of teeth within its triangular oral apparatus below.

A layer of transparent mucus coated its surface, while dense, pale-red bristles grew in clumps on its back, reminiscent of the steel wool pads favored by wealthy women. Underneath its body were pairs of chest, abdominal, and tail feet, each tipped with barbs that firmly hooked onto Bob's lapels.

Placed on flat ground, this creature might have passed for a cute critter due to its chubby figure and pink appearance. But when it hung above Bob's head, its pitch-black eyes and savage mouthpiece aiming for Bob's mouth, the only adjectives left to describe it were "ghastly" and "terrifying."

"What are you doing?!"

Bob struggled desperately, not even caring that a few more of his ribs might have broken. "Let me go!!!"

"Don't be so agitated."

Li Ang, holding the worm, smiled as he pressed down on Bob's forehead and gently guided the worm towards Bob's mouth.

"Wait!"

John Joyce, who had been watching from the side, couldn't hold back any longer. He stepped forward and hurriedly asked, "What are you doing to him? What is that worm?"

"This is the legendary Three Corpse Divine Brain Pill,"

Li Ang lifted his head and said seriously. "It's an extremely yin and virulent poison concocted by the villainous Sun Moon Cult. It contains corpse worms that don't normally become active and show no apparent abnormalities.

However, at noon on the Dragon Boat Festival each year, if the medicine to control the corpse worms isn't taken, they will wreak havoc, much like Sun Wukong did when he burrowed into a demon's belly.

For instance, gnawing on internal organs or something."

"..."

John Joyce's eyes widened, and he almost retorted: "Do you think I haven't seen 'The Smiling Proud Wanderer'? The Three Corpse Divine Brain Pill is clearly a red-shelled pill, how could it possibly be such a huge worm? And can that thing really be swallowed? I think it's thicker than an esophagus, isn't it?!"

But the words died on his lips. John Joyce swallowed them back down and said weakly, "Is this really okay?"

"What's wrong with it?"

Li Ang replied indifferently. "He wanted to feed me cookies, so I'm feeding him a worm. Seems fair to me. Or perhaps..."

He turned his head, looking at the other team members with a smile. "Would any of you like one too? I still have plenty in my inventory slots."

In response to Li Ang's threat, Miss Chai also lifted her head and stared straight at the players' faces, as if considering how to pry their mouths open.

Faced with such a vicious master and servant, John Joyce instinctively took a step back. Julia's face turned pale, and she silently tightened her grip on her pistol. Smoker swallowed, raised his hands in surrender, and stepped back to signal he meant no harm.

This Brother Dao really is a madman.

All three players thought in unison, ignoring Bob's pleading gaze from the ground, pretending not to see.

"See? No one is going to help you. Even if you scream your lungs out, no one will come to save you."

Li Ang laughed wickedly, like a cruel villain from a story, ignoring Bob's pleading eyes as he forcefully pushed the worm down bit by bit.

"Eat! Eat, damn it!"

Bob's body began to tremble violently, but Miss Chai firmly held his hands and feet, releasing Petrification Special Effects on his joints, rendering him completely immobile.

A moment later, the worm's tail completely disappeared into his throat. Tears and snot streamed down Bob's cheeks, his face an expression of utter collapse and numbness.

"Don't look so devastated. As long as you cooperate nicely, the worm won't cause any harm."

Li Ang crouched on the ground, comforting him. "It's now curled up inside your stomach. Aside from causing a sensation of fullness, it won't have much of an impact on you.

Cooperate with us, and we can continue to be teammates."

Li Ang wasn't lying, but he hadn't told the whole truth either.

This worm was, in fact, an aberrant larva hatched by the Queen Bee under the influence of the Origin of Life, codenamed 'Host.'

Its inspiration came from creatures like the Elf Bee and Red-eyed Wasp—real parasitic wasps that exist in the world.

Parasitic wasps can lay their eggs inside a host, allowing the larvae to feed on the host, continually draining its nutrients until they mature. The larvae then hatch and emerge, leaving behind the completely drained husk of the host.

The reproductive method of parasitic wasps is quite gruesome, and the Host created by Li Ang was even more bizarre.

The Host larvae could, with the abdominal feet on their bodies, cling tightly to the host's surface and use their external bristles to pierce the host's skin.

The clumps of pale pink bristles were actually hollow, elongated tubes containing both anesthetic and tiny parasitic eggs (akin to larval eggs—embryos within embryos).

Once the bristles pierced the host's skin, the larva would release anesthetic to stop the host from struggling,

and implant the eggs from within the bristles underneath the host's skin.

These eggs, feeding on the nutrients contained within them, would rapidly grow into larvae under the skin.

The larvae would then release anesthetic from their bodies, numbing the host's sense of pain, and continue drilling deeper. Once they reached a certain depth, they would stop digging and lay second-generation eggs on the spot.

According to Li Ang's estimation, each time the Host's bristles contacted the skin of cattle or sheep, it could implant thousands of microscopic eggs. These first-generation eggs would hatch into larvae, which in turn could produce ten times their number in second-generation eggs.

And the larvae hatched from the second-generation eggs would continue to reproduce under the right temperature and food conditions.

Generation after generation, ad infinitum.

According to Li Ang's calculations, even a mammal as large as an elephant, after a single contact with the Host, would be hollowed out into an empty shell within a matter of days...

The most ingenious part was that the eggs produced by the Host were minuscule and transparent. They multiplied and grew at an extremely fast pace. Even if medical attention was sought immediately after contact,

it was difficult to ensure that all the eggs could be completely found and removed.

Such an extreme species could never emerge in nature. Probably only someone as profoundly bored as Li Ang would create such a terrifying biological weapon.

Of course, Li Ang also imposed many restrictions on the Host.

For example, the larvae hatched from the second- and third-generation eggs had congenital defects. They could never grow as large as the first-generation larvae, nor did they possess organs like bristles that could propagate the next generation upon contact.

The Queen Bee could also emit pheromones that would cause all Host larvae and eggs that came into contact with them to cease their parasitic activity, automatically die, and dissolve into a puddle of mucus.

Li Ang's act of placing the Host inside Bob's stomach actually delayed Bob's death—the Host, under Li Ang's command, only implanted a portion of its eggs inside Bob's stomach and then entered a dormant state along with these first-generation eggs.

Only when Li Ang required it, using the Divine Mark or the Queen Bee's pheromones as a Trigger, would the Host end its dormancy, continue to lay eggs, and hollow out Bob's body from the inside out.

This thing... it was actually more terrifying than the Three Corpse Divine Brain Pill...
