Gamers Are Fierce

Chapter 337: The Mayor

After reaching an agreement, the lumberjack Frederick immediately set out, leading the players toward the nearest town.

According to Frederick, the Snow Queen's Palace was about five hundred miles away, with numerous passes to go through and many mountains and rivers to cross en route.

Even if the players brought out modern vehicles, it would likely take them quite some time to get there.

This distance proved that the time limit hidden by the System was actually quite generous—it definitely wouldn't be less than the time needed to travel there at full speed.

Moreover, the task at hand was to remove the intact Magic Mirror from the Snow Queen's Palace, and according to the original Andersen's Fairy Tales, that mirror, made by the devil, had shattered into countless pieces across the human world.

If the players went through all the trouble to reach the Palace only to find out that the prerequisite to completing the mission was to bring the fragments of the Magic Mirror there, then that would be quite the twist.

Therefore, the players thought it best to inspect the towns along the way, observe the territories under the Snow Queen's rule, pay a close visit to the Snow Queen's churches, and gather clues about the Magic Mirror, and, by the way, they also wanted to verify if what Frederick told them was the truth.

A group of people walked along the forest path, chatting in spurts and trying to extract information while also fostering their fragile "friendship"—

Estimating they might have to stay in the mission world for several days, they figured it was better to get to know their teammates and increase the chances of helping each other out during crises.

By the way, John Joyce and Bob were born and bred in the United States, Julia was a descendant of Italian immigrants to the United States,

and Smoker's parents were actually illegal immigrants living in the United States, but in order to play the killing games better and to evade his criminal record, he had returned to Brazil.

So, their brief exchange confirmed their shared status as 'compatriots'—all having ties to the United States. Logically, they should have mobilized to strip Li Ang, the Asian, of his leadership role,

but unfortunately, none of them understood PC, and just when they tried to renegotiate the leadership with Li Ang, Frederick had already led them to the outskirts of the town.

This town was much more "advanced" than the players had imagined,

with a style of architecture similar to that of Victorian-era English towns, replete with several tall brick houses and comparatively smooth roads. Most pedestrians were decently dressed, without impoverished serfs in sight.

At the moment, not far from the southeast corner of the town, a crowd of citizens gathered—workers, farmers, gentlemen in double-breasted suits, and ladies with parasols wearing high-necked long dresses—three deep on the inside and three deep on the outside, surrounding a middle-aged bald man standing on a platform.

"That's the mayor of Hamelin Town. I saw him when I went to the town to sell leather before," Frederick pointed at the exasperated middle-aged man on the platform and immediately led the players closer. Only after they got closer did everyone hear clearly what the townspeople were talking about.

"We need to accept the sins our ancestors committed in history, as Her Majesty the Queen said, take on the responsibility of restoring ethnic bonds, and build a harmonious and diverse community!"

A well-dressed gentleman shouted at the man on the platform, "However, esteemed Mayor, the crime rate in Hamelin Town remains high, with rampant mugging, burglary, brawls, and noise disturbances at night. Do you have any clue what to do?"

"Her Majesty the Queen's will is correct and reasonable! Dedicating one's life to cultural inclusiveness and racial equality is a civic duty every citizen should fulfill!"

Another gentleman in a suit inexplicably shouted a slogan before turning to the mayor and saying, "The plan to assist African refugees was first proposed by you, Mayor.

We welcome more African-descent Rune Kingdom residents to Hamelin Town to foster the development of our multiculturalism.

However, regarding the infrastructure of our Hamelin Town, I'm afraid we are not able to provide a better living environment for so many African-descent residents of the Rune Kingdom.

Therefore, fellow townspeople, I suggest we move those African-descent Rune Kingdom residents congregating on Opera House Street to the mayor's villa.

I believe they would definitely be satisfied with the new living environment."

"You're absolutely right!" a hotel owner exclaimed, pumping his fist. "Those black... COUGH COUGH, I mean African-descent residents of Rune Kingdom, after coming to Hamelin Town,

spend their days gathering to inhale sugary smog—of course, this is a freely chosen, nondiscriminatory lifestyle.

After inhaling the smog, they gather to fight—of course, this is a perfectly reasonable way to exercise.

In between the fights, they also harass, I mean chat up, some pedestrians on the street—of course, I don't believe this free mating behavior has anything to do with the eighty percent decline in our Hamelin Town's tourist revenue from outside visitors in the third quarter."

A gaggle of townsfolk chattered ceaselessly, and through their fragmented words, the players also began to understand what had been happening in this small town.

Hamelin Town is a small town within the Rune Kingdom known for producing timber, stone, dye, textiles, and precious metals. Ten years ago, Her Majesty the Snow Queen personally established a church in the town.

All the residents of Hamelin Town took great pride in this church personally designated by the Queen.

Thanks to the church, as well as the surrounding scenic beauty, Hamelin Town became one of the famous tourist destinations within the Rune Kingdom. Visitors flocked to the town to see the church every year, providing a significant boost to the town's economic development.

Months ago, His Excellency the Mayor, in response to the Queen's call, crafted a plan under the guise of 'attracting talent,' bringing in a group of black-skinned African-descent Rune Kingdom residents (essentially, Black people),

to fill Hamelin Town's lack of Black residents.

According to the Mayor, it was simply incorrect and not inclusive for our glorified little town, honored with a personally established church by Her Majesty, to not have any Black residents.

At the time, the townspeople responded enthusiastically to the Mayor's call, with many even declaring their willingness to donate their homes to house the African-descent talents brought into Hamelin Town.

However, it should be noted that there weren't many Black people on this land in the first place.

In the many years following Her Majesty the Queen's declaration against racial discrimination, a large number of Black people had gathered in the capital of the Rune Kingdom, enjoying substantial subsidies. Therefore, nobody was willing to accept the so-called Hamelin Town talent attraction plan.

To avoid falling behind with the plan, the Mayor, who was now the bald man besieged by residents, concocted a genius-like plan—to directly bring in African-descent residents from other regions, such as their places of origin in Africa.
