The Moon Star was immense, barren, and boundlessly vast.
A chilling wind arose, relentlessly blowing from all directions.
Ye Yun, with Big Black Horse and the Bloody Overlord Demonic Dragon, halted above an abyss.
"Do you have any impression of this place?" Ye Yun glanced at the Bloody Overlord Demonic Dragon, smiling as he asked.
"Master, although I have never been to the Moon Star, this abyss is so unique it must be the Moon Star's sole core forbidden zone. Lord Ancestor Dragon once decreed that, aside from the Xuan Yin Moon Dragons, no other Dragon Clan members may approach—not even Super Divine Dragons."
The Bloody Overlord Demonic Dragon's eyes flickered as he stared at the dark abyss in the distance, speaking in a low voice.
In the eyes of the ordinary Dragon Clan, the Moon Star was a forbidden place. He himself had only ever caught a distant glimpse of it. Many legends circulated within the Dragon Clan concerning the Moon Star. Some believed it to be the place where the Ancestor Dragon practiced seclusion and cultivation. Others opined that the Ancestor Dragon had crafted the Wushang treasure here. Still others said that the Ancestor Dragon had once captured an Unparallelled Fierce Beast from the Divine Land. In short, there were various theories, all of which shrouded the Moon Star in a mysterious veil.
Ye Yun was naturally aware of the tales the Bloody Overlord Demonic Dragon knew. After all, he had once read the memories in the Bloody Overlord Demonic Dragon's mind. This time, his visit to the Moon Star was also to see the place where the Ancestor Dragon had sealed the treasure. This abyss before us must be the sealing ground.
As Big Black Horse gazed into the abyss, he suddenly spoke, "Master, it seems there are some wandering souls active down there."
"Correct. This is precisely our destination for this trip." Ye Yun nodded.
"Master, are you looking for something here?" Big Black Horse asked curiously.
"This is where the Ancestor Dragon once sealed a treasure. Let's go down and see if we can find any clues." Ye Yun smiled faintly, his body abruptly drifting down from the mountaintop.
Big Black Horse and the Bloody Overlord Demonic Dragon quickly followed.
As the three of them descended, they discovered the abyss was filled with enormous dragon bones. Each dragon skeleton was like a small hill. The dragon bones were piled atop one another, looking like white Bone Mountains in the dim light of the night.
"Master, why are there so many dragon bones in this abyss?" Big Black Horse exclaimed in surprise.
"These are the remains of the Xuan Yin Moon Dragons. They once guarded the Moon Star under the orders of the Ancestor Dragon. But later, when the Spirits from the Divine Land invaded the Moon Star, these Xuan Yin Moon Dragons all died in battle. After their deaths, those Spirits tossed their bodies into this abyss. Now, after millions of years have passed, only these white dragon bones are left."
Ye Yun sighed softly, his expression somewhat sorrowful. The piles of white bones before them, stacked together, emitted a faint white glow in the cold wind, seemingly narrating the tragic and inhuman war fought long ago on the Moon Star between the Spirits and the Dragon Clan.
In that war of invasion, all the Xuan Yin Moon Dragons on the Moon Star perished. The great formation sealed by the Ancestor Dragon in the depths of this abyss was forcibly broken, and those ferocious Spirits plundered the treasures within. It had been a bloody massacre.
Hearing Ye Yun's account, Big Black Horse was suddenly filled with solemn respect. He cupped his fists and bowed deeply towards the white bones.
"Seniors, I pay my respects!" Big Black Horse said softly.
Gazing at the bones of his kinsmen, the Bloody Overlord Demonic Dragon also felt a wave of sorrow. Mimicking Big Black Horse, he too bent down and bowed.
An indescribable sorrow also touched Ye Yun's heart, but he did not show it, continuing to drift deeper into the abyss.
White dragon bones carpeted the entire abyss, growing more numerous the deeper they went. At this point, they could see wandering souls shuttling continuously among the white bones, like kites with snapped strings. These souls mostly appeared in human form. But Ye Yun knew these were formed from the condensed remnant souls of the deceased Xuan Yin Moon Dragons.
When alive, the Xuan Yin Moon Dragons who guarded the Moon Star had also appeared in human form. The Dragon Clan's bodies were too massive; generally, they only revealed their true forms during battle. For everyday activities, they appeared in human form. This was true from the Ancestor Dragon down to the Ten Super Divine Dragons. The Ancestor Dragon once convened a Myriad Dragon Convention, where every Divine Dragon attended in human form, including the Ancestor Dragon himself.
These wandering souls drifted everywhere among the dragon bones and in the abyss. There were males and females, old and young, each with a greyish-white face and a semi-transparent body, emanating a cold, yin energy. Their bodies were stiff, flying back and forth with vacant stares. Occasionally, they would greet each other, looking just like a troop of zombies.
"These wandering souls are so strong! Quite a few are actually at the Eternal Realm!" The Bloody Overlord Demonic Dragon squinted at the fluttering souls, exclaiming in shock.
"These souls, in their original bodies, likely had high cultivation bases when alive. After death, their remnant souls absorbed the Xuan Yin earth-vein energy of the Moon Star and bizarrely continued to exist. They had a high starting point, and after millions of years of unconscious, automatic cultivation, even the weakest of these souls now possesses a cultivation base at the Life and Death Realm." Ye Yun observed for a moment before stating his conclusion calmly.
"Master, if these souls were to get out, I'm afraid they would cause turmoil throughout the entire continent," Big Black Horse muttered. Seeing that these souls were all Eternal Realm experts, he too felt an indescribable, eerie sensation.
"They won't get out," Ye Yun said with a light laugh.
"Why not? Is it because the Coffin Carrier did something?" Big Black Horse looked around, scanning the vicinity as if searching for clues.
"Not exactly." Ye Yun's gaze flickered towards the distance, a smile playing on his lips. "Perhaps you'll know in a little while."
Big Black Horse said, "Oh," and then fell silent.
The three of them continued forward. The souls seemed not to have noticed the three of them, continuing to wander about.
SQUEAK!
A strange cry rang out. A massive black shadow suddenly burst from a pile of white bones and lunged rapidly towards the trio.
Ye Yun looked up and flicked his finger lightly. The massive black shadow was instantly frozen in mid-air.
"What is this?" Big Black Horse stared, eyes wide. He found that this huge figure had a bizarre appearance, making it difficult to identify what kind of creature it was.
"This should be a Dragon Shadow Bug." The Bloody Overlord Demonic Dragon carefully examined the strangely shaped black shadow and recognized it at a glance.
"Correct. This is indeed a Dragon Shadow Bug. After a Divine Dragon dies, its corpse, when affected by external influences, has a chance to form a Dragon Shadow Bug," Ye Yun sighed. "This type of Dragon Shadow Bug is actually similar to the Corpse Worms that appear after a human dies."
There were not many Dragon Shadow Bugs in this abyss, only a little over a hundred in total, each with a cultivation base reaching the Eternal Realm. Although these Dragon Shadow Bugs were individually very powerful, surpassing even the Coffin Carrier in strength, due to the lingering obsession in the hearts of the Xuan Yin Moon Dragons, these Dragon Shadow Bugs born from their corpses also steadfastly guarded this abyss, just like those wandering souls.
Thinking of this, Ye Yun sighed again. The Xuan Yin Moon Dragon Clan, loyal and true to the very end. They were indeed the Dragon Clan most devoted to the Ancestor Dragon.
