The five people moved in a loosely formed team, lacking any defensive stance. Especially Xige Yun and Sigeru, who were openly hostile to Su Chen, clearly isolating themselves from the group.
"Sister Meiruo, I think there's something wrong here."
Xige Zhuxue suddenly spoke up. She followed behind Siger Meiruo, her face calm and composed. This calmness made Su Chen think she was not the enchanting Xige Zhuxue he knew.
"I think so too. Not only is the humidity heavy, there's not a trace of life. In such a big forest, there should at least be some herbivores living here."
Siger Meiruo agreed thoughtfully.
"There's nothing strange about it, you're just too tense. In such a large forest, do you expect there to be life everywhere? Swamps, tidal flats, even caves and canyons could be here. Without sunlight for years, many creatures shrivel and die naturally."
Xige Yun spoke indifferently.
Su Chen glanced at him, noticing a hint of sarcasm at the corners of his mouth. It was as if he was saying, "Ignorant boy, do you even understand these basic facts?"
Siger Meiruo nodded, not contradicting Xige Yun's statement. Though she had never been to the Forest of Death, she understood basic facts. In such a damp forest, even sun-loving animals, let alone shade-loving ones, wouldn't want to live here. Her worry might really be unnecessary.
"But is it really just environmental factors?"
Just then, Su Chen spoke up suddenly.
As he spoke, the four others turned to look at him, their faces full of questions. Naturally, Xige Yun and Sigeru looked disdainful.
"If you don't think so, then please explain why?"
Xige Yun sneered with extreme disdain. He had deliberately added in his words to further undermine Su Chen.
"Look at the forest above, it's significantly sparser than those previous places. Here, the tall trees have reduced, increasing the areas directly exposed to sunlight. Look at the roses on both sides of the path, they're sun-loving plants, and those few pomegranate trees generally thrive in places with ample sunlight. So why are they growing in this extremely humid forest?"
"Why?"
Siger Meiruo asked.
"Look more closely at why the place where the fog is heaviest is four or five meters, even up to ninety-seven meters, away from us. Those tree roots and ground soil have very small wet areas, but the tree trunks have large wet areas. Why?"
"Come on, stop speaking in riddles. Why exactly?"
Xige Zhuxue rolled her eyes charmingly, which Su Chen found overwhelming.
"Because this fog is a façade created by someone else."
Su Chen suddenly revealed a shocking statement, "Normal fog only forms close to the ground because at higher altitudes, the air flow is large and it's not easy to form a breeze, making it difficult for fog to form. Haven't you noticed? This fog seems to carry something that makes one's mind lose control."
Su Chen spoke in an eerie tone...
"What is it?"
Following Su Chen's clear explanation, the others grew alert.
On careful sensing, they indeed found something strange in the air; the fog that was once misty and wet now seemed to carry a faint oppressive feeling. That ominous scent grew stronger and closer, causing the group to become highly vigilant.
"Let's get out of here quickly, I have a very bad feeling!"
Siger Meiruo suddenly spoke up!
But as soon as her words fell, a strange creature with a foggy white body leaped down from a large tree by the roadside!
It blocked the group, blending into the indistinct fog, making it difficult to see clearly. But those glowing eyes were like two cold stars in the night, exuding a suffocating pressure.
"It's a Fog Spirit."
Siger Meiruo's voice was low.
"Fog Spirit?"
Su Chen frowned.
"It's a water attribute Spirit Beast, reaching up to level four in adulthood; I hope this one isn't an adult Fog Spirit."
Siger Meiruo's expression was grave.
She was an Earth Attribute Beast Cultivator, particularly sensitive to her natural enemy water attribute creatures. If her Beast Cultivator level wasn't so low, she probably would have detected the Fog Spirit's presence earlier.
A sharp screech came from the fog ahead. The Fog Spirit, over three meters long and resembling a wolf, suddenly attacked the five of them!
It was the emissary of water and the creator of fog. Within the dense fog, it believed it could trap and slay any opponent weaker than itself!
With a leap, the Fog Spirit lunged like a dragon out of the sea, its long and robust body arcing through the air, fiercely pouncing towards Siger Meiruo! Its sharp fangs gleamed with silver light under the moonlight. Its front claws opened wide, aiming to tear through Siger Meiruo's swan-like neck!
But the level three Fog Spirit miscalculated. Though Siger Meiruo was new to being a One-star Beast Master, the Earth Attribute skills she cultivated were the bane of the Fog Spirit. Moreover, she wasn't the least bit panicked by the assault, causing the Fog Spirit's pounce to fail completely!
With a light shout, the slightly damp ground underfoot broke apart like plowed earth, splitting completely! The land cracked open, scattering large amounts of soil, instantly causing the Fog Spirit to lose its target. Siger Meiruo hummed softly, her hands moving like butterflies fluttering amidst flowers, quickly flicking and spinning in the air. Those soils, just a few feet off the ground, seemed to be pulled by some force, all gathering towards a single point. In an instant, those soils formed a thick earthen shield, upon which the Fog Spirit's pounce bounced back, dizzy and dazed!
It crouched on the ground, growling low at Siger Meiruo in anger. Soon after, to the astonishment of the others, a wave of pure white energy started to emanate from its mouth!
"Be careful, it's the Fog Spirit's skill, Water Dragon Pearl!"
Siger Meiruo exclaimed!
Even before she finished, a round and brightly shining Water Attribute Attack Wave shot out, targeting the unsuspecting Xige Zhuxue! Knowing Siger Meiruo was difficult to deal with, the Fog Spirit surprisingly changed its target!
Startled by the sudden attack, Xige Zhuxue froze for a moment before suddenly snapping back to reality! She was just a Three-star Beast Warrior; how could she dare to withstand the sudden strike of a level three Spirit Beast?
Just when she thought she was finished, a flash of lightning swept across the sky, tightly grabbing her and flying away!
Before even landing, Su Chen used his wind spin power to gracefully spin once in mid-air, rescuing Xige Zhuxue unscathed. Only a trace of cold sweat was visible on his forehead.
Xige Zhuxue, held in his arms, blushed slightly, her eyes gazing at Su Chen's clear gaze. Only after a long while did a hint of enchantment surface, "You little rascal, have you hugged enough?"
Su Chen, provoked by her teasing words, immediately let go awkwardly, while Xige Zhuxue elegantly spun and landed a few meters away. Eyeing Xige Yun and Sigeru, she laughed wantonly a few times.
Having missed twice, the Fog Spirit was already enraged. Its front paws furiously scraped at the ground, creating a heart-palpitating sound, and suddenly, its sturdy hind legs pushed off the ground, dashing rapidly towards Su Chen, who had saved Xige Zhuxue!
"Go help Su Chen!"
Siger Meiruo called out softly!
Yet she forgot that Xige Yun and Sigeru hoped for nothing more than Su Chen getting hurt, so how could they possibly step in to save him?
Siger Meiruo's speed was no match for the Fog Spirit, and with Su Chen being so close to it, he couldn't avoid this close combat!
Surprisingly, even under sudden attack, Su Chen showed no panic. With a clang, he drew the longsword from his back. His left hand spread two fingers across it, a faint red glow appearing on the eerily strange blade!
As the Fog Spirit extended its lethal claws, its gaping maw suddenly opened, spewing forth an impressive Water Dragon Pearl with terrifying power! Siger Meiruo's pretty face turned pale, and she froze mid-charge!
"Su Chen, little brother!"
She called out, unable to bear watching!
But Su Chen's face showed no fear. From left to right, the longsword swept through the air, creating a faint red afterimage. Then a sudden shaft of strong wind swirl surged in his right palm! The wind spin directly engaged the sword hilt, beginning to rotate. The longsword spun high in the air, like a blood-red windmill, forming a clockwise vortex in an instant!
