Black Sail

Chapter 18: Night of the Witch's Revenge

"Doringer's offspring?"

Liszt had a cascade of thoughts; no wonder after Doringer's death he always felt something was amiss, like an itch that couldn't be scratched. It turns out it didn't go according to the script; there was no grand emotional drama of nine sons vying for the inheritance.

As the Eastern Sea Lord, having no offspring? That was categorically impossible. There had to be some children, both openly and secretly.

Doringer may have died, but the framework of the old Eastern Sea interests he dominated hadn't completely collapsed. If someone were to step forward, even if it was Tang Shier, the beneficiaries of the old Eastern Sea would still rally around this person as a linchpin of cohesion, waiting for a chance to eliminate him and rise again.

If such a person were to appear, Liszt would launch a final, major crackdown to consolidate power. Once this suppression was completed, he would finally eliminate any deep-seated threats and establish himself as the region's de facto ruler.

Otherwise, as it stood now, people on the other side of the Narrow Sea had already started to exploit the situation. When the Far Eastern and Western Continent trade center opens, without a significant patron, like Lostra, he knew his own worth, and each person would need to bleed, leading to a debt of 114,514 times the Pacific Ocean.

More than half a year had passed, and it was still just some "outsiders" coveting the strategic position of Heaven Port. Putting them down wasn't much of a pressure.

"I wondered where the offspring were hiding; they were here waiting for me all along."

At this time, Galen was in the Aran Imperial City, surely there to watch the Continent Martial Arts Competition. It was there he encountered the person; even a thin camel is bigger than a horse. Even if his father was dead, having enough idle money to watch the matches, paying for tickets in Golden Dragon, certainly spoke of old money.

"Tell me everything that happened."

Liszt needed to examine the details, ears pressed against the radio transceiver, trying to figure out what kind of character Gren was.

It wasn't Gren himself that Liszt was wary of, but the many people he served as a point of cohesion.

He hadn't left Mulong yet, still in the inland area, not far off. With Magic Crystal-enhanced wavelength, stable low-latency transmission could occur without a repeater.

From the day he encountered the punk girl being chased by men in black outside the Imperial Arena, Galen began recounting everything. However, he deliberately withheld some information because, damn it, he didn't know what was happening at the time. Through insider information, he made a huge fortune for this little girl to fund the war effort against Liszt. Is this something to be told? All he could say was that after the Continent Martial Arts Competition timehouse training, Gren had become overpowered, super Saiyan level, tenfold Kaioken.

Gren was adopted by Doringer's old friend, who understood what the Eastern Sea was about and knew many were looking for Doringer's "legitimate heir" to get a piece of the pie.

But he didn't act on it.

There aren't as many ambitious people in the world as one might think. Often, so-called aspirants are merely maintaining the current situation and do not crave supreme power.

What Gren needed had already been given by Doringer: a luxurious residence at the world's center, a national debt fund capable of supporting a lifetime of lavish spending, and family connections that could solve problems even involving murder.

She already had everything and didn't need to bear the hellish burdens from the historical issues of the Eastern Sea that ordinary people could not bear.

So when news came of Gren's escape, Doringer's old friend wasn't worried about the trouble she could stir up, but fearful she'd be found by those with intentions of standing her in a position she couldn't control, most terrifyingly... by Liszt.

Liszt, in the year 2689 of the Holy Spirit Calendar, although a rising Nether Star, was also rumored to be the ringleader of a notorious Eastern Sea violent gang.

And this year 2690 was different; the Black Sail members had been completely demonized. Aran had its own nine-one-one, the great train robbery was considered the heist of the century: Black Sail was the first to dare mess with the national nobles on New Aran's territory.

A good reputation often has only one title, with only one attribute. But a bad reputation is different; a certain bad quality leads all other attributes to be exaggerated as well.

Back in early spring, not long after Doringer's death, newspapers were already claiming that Liszt was not only a brutal murderous demon but a lecherous fiend. If a woman goes on a seaside vacation in the Southern Continent, she'd surely be warned to beware of being captured by Heaven Port pirates to play the Star Crossbow.

Liszt's current reputation is truly more abominable than the church in the witch's night of vengeance, hunting witches worldwide, leading young girls astray. Once they can't beat him, an instant replay of the defeat CG is broadcasted.

This clearly reveals Doringer's old friend's mentality: if this comeback succeeds, all the better, but if it fails, the thought of Gren's position is unimaginable.

The current Heaven Port is more terrifying than a billion Paradise Island demons. The Fallen Cry begins, prompting the island's perverts to advance, broadcasting the desperate CG of defeat to the world.

This also shows Doringer's skill in recognizing talent, placing Gren in Aran Imperial City was the right choice.

"Damn..."

As Galen spoke, Liszt's face grew more somber, filled with self-loathing.

"Trying to overthrow the evil feudal nobles, you just hate not being the feudal noble yourself, don't you?"

Shadi ruthlessly mocked, and Rein added to the pressure, "I'm an honest man, I like to speak the truth. These creator sisters, the commissions they usually take on may be from ugly, greasy middle-aged men, disgusting cross-dressing games, how desperate must they be? I am... the one who can save them, just imagine, dealing with awkward customers every day, then suddenly a sunny, humorous handsome guy places an order—who knows the sense of salvation this brings, family."

Shadi subconsciously showcased his side profile, asserting persuasion.

The Minstrel world's top dog, Feng Tong, had the kind of top-quality duck face that Shadi's looks could still hold ground against in a head-on confrontation.

Chuan Che almost flew two meters into the air. Even though recently he'd been using attitude bugs to blend in and earn currency with these folks by lowering his posture, he could barely hold it together at the mention of Mika, who wasn't at Rashomon. "I really want to smack you."

For those not among the founders of Black Sail's Angel Round, Shadi held a positional suppression, but just smiled. Chuan Che wasn't particularly handsome, but his looks were tolerable, though not much else. "To the creator brethren at Wind Anchor, you look like Nezha Huba emoticons."

Rein and Morison both wore strategic poker faces, because Shadi was incredibly infuriating.

Rein dug in his ear, strategically silent for a moment.

"On the SS Fuma Keqing Revenge, from solid to drag. Shadi transitioned from a spirited kid to an uncle meddler, fiddling with a harem and toying with emotions, but when things went down, he'd genuinely step up, balancing out merits and downsides, here given an NPC rank."

Rein handed down the verdict.

Morison nodded in agreement.

"What the hell does 'from solid to drag' even mean, damn it!"

Shadi had lost count of how many times Rein had messed with his mind—this guy's statements were more outrageous each time.

"Solid, top tier, top dog, NPC, drag, five levels, you can't even say you're born, but you're half a step to the birth realm."

Morison nodded.

"Damn." Shadi glanced at Liszt, who was playing with the radio. "Which level does Liszt belong to in this purchase then?"

Rein solemnly replied, "The judgment needs to align with the objective reality, can't just say whatever because he's Lao Da. He still spreads his harem, toys with emotions. Because of his mind control, many fall for it, incredibly insidious, but the biggest issue is bringing together so many high-end people to create such a high-end place like Black Sail, making countless people play at the edge of life and death, uncovering pirate truths, extremely detrimental to society. Here he's given a drag rank."

"Fair and to the point."

Shadi was amazed, that werewolf truly wasn't just spewing nonsense.

"What about Fen? At which level?"

Morison was extremely curious.
