Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength

Chapter 842: The Flat Plain

After dealing with the Lir Sannia group.

The expedition team, led by Koya, left the oasis and continued to head north.

During this period, Ronald curiously asked Koya about her attitude towards Costate. He then learned that during the Dark Age, due to almost all top-tier warriors participating in the battle, the situation was very tragic, and many prominent figures from various schools were lost.

In such a situation, Costate's exceptional combat and healing abilities stood out, especially since she was one of the top figures gathered by Adler from the mystic sides, resulting in a final achievement.

The polar school to which Koya belonged also played a major role in the wartime back then.

During a sinister ambush attack, the polar school was aided by Costate during their crisis and managed to overcome the difficulties.

As Koya was already a core member of the school at the time, it was definitely an unforgettable experience for her.

That's why when Koya saw Costate again, she expressed such a degree of respect and admiration.

Whoosh—

On the extremely cold ice cap continent, the light of the Absolute Sea Lamp shimmered again on the pure white ground.

The team sheltered by it began to advance in such a safe environment.

Although under Koya's guidance, their direction was somewhat deviating from due north, they generally maintained a trend toward the North Pole and smoothly arrived at a plain that looked very flat.

Almost no animals could be seen around.

On this plain, spanning thousands of acres, nothing could be seen that exceeded the flat ice surface.

Ronald could even speculate that from high above, this place would appear as a very large "mirror" without needing to ascend.

This was indeed quite a special situation.

And very strange!

Though affected by snowfall and cold weather, years of erosion should make the earth's surface uneven.

For example.

In areas without extreme conditions like the North Pole, even some frozen lakes exhibit uneven surfaces outside their smooth surface.

So, for a large plain that's constantly frozen, appearing as level as a lake surface over a vast area is an almost negligible occurrence.

Just then.

Pointing at the singular plain ahead, Koya confidently said:

"We've arrived; this is where Ling Guang Mountain is located."

"Although I have only been here twice before, I vividly remember it due to the unique geographic factors."

Ronald immediately confirmed:

"So, all the flat areas around here are where Ling Guang Mountain will appear?"

"That's correct." Koya nodded, but the help she could offer Ronald ended at that point, "But as I mentioned before, I don't have much deep knowledge about here. Mr. Ronald, if you want to investigate thoroughly, there's very little further I can assist with."

Ronald still expressed his gratitude to Koya right away:

"No worries, this is already enough."

"Without your help in guiding, I'd probably still be troubled about where to look for this so-called Ling Guang Mountain! Searching for an impossible mountain out of season is the real nightmare."

He expressed his thanks to the elderly Caster.

The next moment, Ronald recited a spell and reactivated the magic array of the Star Plate.

Once the spell was activated, it began to record the surrounding terrain.

And as the scope expanded, as he sensed the terrain being recorded in the spell, Ronald couldn't help but marvel.

Having spells was extremely convenient.

When spells could solve problems, he could easily handle predicaments with such a simple method.

But if Ronald were still an ordinary person now…

Then, trying to find Ling Guang Mountain's hidden secrets on this arctic icefield would likely consume a lot of time, and even his own safety could not be guaranteed.

Amidst these thoughts, the magic array of the Star Plate continued expanding its research and recording range.

Under this relentless terrain exploration.

Ronald quickly discovered something quite concerning.

Below the substantial icefield, there were a large number of very slender ice tunnels, even the widest of which was no thicker than a human arm.

These connected deep into the ground.

Even within the Star Plate's exploration limit, it couldn't reach where they led.

"So many of them…"

Ronald murmured, simultaneously moving around to change the Star Plate's exploration point.

Yet the result remained unchanged.

Below all sections of the flat icefield surface, these slender tunnels appeared without exception.

The pattern reflected in the Star Plate's terrain modeling.

Comparing the dense tunnels with the vast area felt akin to suggesting something enormous was hidden underground, with these tunnels like its extensions, provoking chills.

So…

The emergence of these tunnels must be related to Ling Guang Mountain's existence.

Could he use them to find the dust giant beast hidden in the Arctic?

With such thoughts, Ronald immediately quickened his steps.

He chose to act alone.

Severed from the regular members of the expedition team, he could gather the surrounding detectable terrain as quickly as possible.

Ronald's speed in investigating solo was swift.

It didn't take him long to reach the northern edge of the icefield, but the outcome was still disappointing.

Aside from the seemingly endless slender tunnels below, he didn't find anything differing.

If he wished to delve deeper down for exploration…

Ronald shook his head promptly.

This was different from the underground bases for summoning creatures, even without deep thoughts, he understood how exaggerated and ridiculous an endeavor to follow these tunnels down thousands of meters would be.

No matter how useful his spells were.

It couldn't bridge the innate gap reality presented.

"So have I found it, or haven't I?"

"Couldn't there be a passage capable of accommodating a human for me to use?"

Muttering this,

Ronald started exploring towards both sides of the icefield—but the results remained null.

All the tunnels couldn't fit a human's body.

Should Ronald truly wish to descend, he'd need to prepare for a significant time expenditure here.

Using his spells with such efficiency, digging layer by layer downwards.

This was sure to be an arduous and lengthy process!

As Ronald pondered the feasibility of this choice, his expression abruptly changed.

Without hesitation, he turned around and rushed back towards the expedition team again.

"No, there's still something I haven't validated!"
