The King of Urban Mercenaries

Chapter 916: Meng Ke'er's Divergent Perspective

It was a little past two in the morning.

The area around the Grand Theater was brightly lit, thronged with people.

A large number of Zhonghai City police were conducting control operations inside and outside the theater, not daring to show any signs of laxity.

All the top officials from the Zhonghai City Police Department were present, including main leaders from the Zhonghai City Council, with Gu Lanzi, a leader of Zhonghai City, attending on the ground.

Having indirectly captured Lymes from the Butcher's hands, An Dehai, the captain of the Hawk Special Team, was in a conference room at a nearby Star Hotel temporarily commandeered for the crisis, reporting to Gu Lanzi and other Zhonghai City Council high-ranking officials present.

"...That's how it is. Lymes and his accomplices were hired by Chu Feipeng, the son of the major shareholder of Meng Ke'er's brokerage company. They intended to use the opportunity of Meng Ke'er's concert to create chaos and abduct her. When they were about to board the ship to hand her over to Chu Feipeng, hiding in Bayu, we intercepted them. Except for their leader, Lymes, all the other kidnappers were killed by us."

"Previously abducted by them, Meng Ke'er has now been rescued by us and is arranged in a hotel room. Having been knocked unconscious by the abductors earlier, she is still in a coma. We have, however, had a doctor examine Meng Ke'er, confirming it's merely a simple coma with no other serious injuries."

Bang!

Almost at the moment An Dehai finished speaking, Gu Lanzi, seated in the main seat of the conference room, struck the table sharply. "No matter whether Meng Ke'er is all right or not, we must pursue today's incident to the very end! Over thirty thousand people were frightened, and nearly a hundred were hospitalized due to crowding and trampling. Additionally, over twenty officers died in the line of duty, with several others severely injured, and this has already alarmed higher-ups. While the perpetrators have been captured, the mastermind remains at large. Regardless of anything else, Chu Feipeng must be arrested and brought to justice!"

Gu Lanzi was genuinely enraged, more than just ordinarily furious. If Lymes and his group had simply kidnapped Meng Ke'er without creating such a huge fiasco, Gu Lanzi would have been upset, but she clearly wouldn't have slammed the table directly in front of so many senior Zhonghai City Council officials.

Being the leader of a city, for Gu Lanzi to slam the table meant, in some ways, that she was losing her cool.

Leadership losing composure is no small matter.

However, Gu Lanzi was evidently not concerned about composure at this point. Today's series of events was an absolute provocation to Gu Lanzi's authoritative leadership. Indeed, if it hadn't been for the Butcher and others intercepting Lymes and his group immediately,

Gu Lanzi's political career might undoubtedly have been affected.

Considering the casualties alone, it has already constituted a major public safety incident. If Meng Ke'er had been kidnapped by Lymes and his group and managed to escape Zhonghai City, resulting in more deaths and injuries among the citizens and police, Gu Lanzi's career could very well have reached an end.

This wasn't even the main reason for Gu Lanzi's loss of composure. It was undoubtedly because of her precious daughter, Xu Jiao, that Gu Lanzi unhesitatingly slammed the table in front of numerous senior Zhonghai City Council officials.

She was also inside the Grand Theater earlier.

Due to Xu Jiao, who was eventually safely evacuated from the Grand Theater by Lin Fei. Were it not for this, Gu Lanzi probably wouldn't stop at just slamming the table in front of the many senior Zhonghai City Council officials.

Compared to Gu Lanzi's loss of composure, Nie Zhiyuan, as the director of the Zhonghai City Police Department, was undoubtedly much more furious.

Not long after Gu Lanzi finished speaking, Nie Zhiyuan immediately spoke up, "What Leader Gu says is right. The mastermind, Chu Feipeng, must be captured and brought to justice no matter what. I am willing to put my reputation on the line and vow that within three days, I will capture Chu Feipeng and bring him to justice! If I fail to capture Chu Feipeng within three days, I'm willing to take off this police uniform!"

"Director Nie's words are heavy. With such an incident occurring, everyone present here shares responsibility. It's good that you are eager to capture Chu Feipeng and bring him to justice swiftly. However, there's no need for such a vow. In any case, Chu Feipeng is in Bayu, and capturing him will certainly be inconvenient. If Chu Feipeng were still in Zhonghai City or anywhere domestically, I would demand you capture him within 24 hours even without you saying so, Director Nie."

"Thank you, Leader Gu, for understanding. However, to account for the more than twenty officers who died, I earnestly request Leader Gu to issue a letter of cooperation with Interpol in the name of the Zhonghai City Council, requesting their assistance in capturing Chu Feipeng along with us."

"As it should be." Nodding in response to Nie Zhiyuan, Gu Lanzi's phoenix eyes turned towards An Dehai, saying, "Regarding the capture of Chu Feipeng, we might need to ask Captain An's help to dispatch personnel. I'll have my secretary contact your military district later; we'll likely need to trouble you Hawk Special Team over the next few days."

"Leader Gu's words are too kind. We left the unit with instructions to unconditionally cooperate with Zhonghai City and maintain order at all costs. Since Chu Feipeng is the mastermind behind this kidnapping, capturing him is naturally our rightful duty."

Upon hearing An Dehai's firm reply, Gu Lanzi's expression relaxed a bit, nodding, "With your assurance, Captain An, I am completely reassured."

After finalizing the details of capturing Chu Feipeng, Gu Lanzi declared the meeting adjourned. All senior members of the Zhonghai City Council, except Nie Zhiyuan, who stayed behind to continue overseeing subsequent follow-up work, left the hotel, including Gu Lanzi.

Meanwhile, upon receiving a report from Hawk Team members that Meng Ke'er had regained consciousness, An Dehai unhesitatingly walked toward the hotel suite where Meng Ke'er was being held.

"...That's how things are, Miss Meng. You need not carry any psychological burden. Those who tried to abduct you have all been eliminated, except for their leader, who was captured by us. As for the mastermind, Chu Feipeng, he has also been put on the wanted list. I can assure you, Miss Meng, that he will be captured and brought to justice soon."

After An Dehai finished speaking, and Meng Ke'er understood the general situation, her expression dimmed. After pondering for a moment, Meng Ke'er slightly lifted her head, her charming eyes fixed complexly on An Dehai, saying, "So, Captain An, what you're saying is, it wasn't you who saved me, but someone Lin Fei found who saved me. So, can I understand that it was Lin Fei who saved me?"

An Dehai, who initially thought Meng Ke'er might ask about the kidnappers or Chu Feipeng, was a bit taken aback by her question, which was beyond his expectation.

However, owing to the Butcher's previous warning, An Dehai quickly regained his composure.

After some brief contemplation, An Dehai nodded to Meng Ke'er, saying, "Indeed, that can be interpreted in that way. However, to avoid causing unnecessary trouble for the Boss and Brother Xuan, when speaking to outsiders, please maintain consistency with me in your statements. Do you understand what I mean, Miss Meng?"

"I understand."

Nodding in response to An Dehai, a trace of shyness fleetingly passed through Meng Ke'er's charming eyes...
