There were eight Excellent-grade Labyrinth Watchers with rapid healing abilities. Gao Peng observed them secretly while slowly moving backward with his familiars.
One of the Labyrinth Watchers stood out, as it was much bigger than the others. That Watcher was a level higher than the rest, which were all at Level 50. It had already achieved the peak as a Lord-tier monster. It was also one grade higher than the rest, at the Perfect grade.
Roar… Roar… Roar, Gao Peng could only hear a series of roaring sounds, but he failed to understand any of the words.
Dumby listened for a while and then translated to him, “Master, they’re trying to tell us that they mean us no harm. They’re here to ask for our help.”
After learning the purpose of these Labyrinth Watchers, Gao Peng set his worries aside because they didn’t have any malicious intent.
They just need our help? Gao Peng didn’t say a word as he was thinking deeply.
A few of the Labyrinth Watchers looked at each other, then turned their heads and said to Dumby, “Please follow us.”
After hearing Dumby’s translation, Gao Peng shook his head and asked him to tell them, “We can’t just follow you like that. This is your territory, after all, therefore, I don’t trust you all.”
The Labyrinth Watchers looked at each other again, not knowing what to say.
A few moments of silence later, one of the Labyrinth Watchers became offended. He took a step forward and shouted while staring at Gao Peng.
The fire in Dumby’s eyes was still. He raised his head and looked the Labyrinth Watcher right in the eyes, then he took out his tail from his back and said nothing.
Goldie rubbed its head as a sign of irritation and spit onto the ground. Ptooey!
I, Goldie shall not be insulted like this! Don’t you dare yell at my people!
The rest of Gao Peng’s familiars started causing an uproar among themselves. They made guttural noises of warning from their throats.
The leader of the Perfect-grade Labyrinth Watchers suddenly turned his head around and smacked the offended Watcher in the face after he yelled at them. The heavy smack left the Watcher spinning on the ground. It staggered and thudded its bum onto the ground. The Watcher looked at his leader in confusion, perhaps wondering why it had done that all so suddenly.
Roar! The leader rumbled deeply, giving him the warning to shut up.
He turned his head around again and took a glance at Gao Peng. He growled and said, “We truly mean no harm to you. I just hope that all of you could help our master.”
Gao Peng was still alert, for he was still wondering whether these guys would offer them as a sacrifice without them knowing.
“All right. Please give me some time to prepare, and I will get back to you when I’m ready.”
The Labyrinth Watchers looked at Gao Peng without saying anything for around half a minute. The leader of the Watchers finally nodded.
“Fine, human. I hope you aren’t trying to trick us.”
“Why would I trick you? You’re welcome to come and ask around in the human world. You would find that I’m an honest and reliable man.” Gao Peng smiled.
“Honest and reliable man? Then you must be a man of your word from the human world who would do a lot better than all those swindlers.” The Labyrinth Watcher nodded in a serious way.
With Dumby’s help, the leader’s words were translated.
Gao Peng smiled with modesty.
“Oh, yeah. Did you raise all the monsters here?” asked Gao Peng while pointing at the Black Gecko on the wall.
The Labyrinth Watcher glimpsed at the Black Gecko and nodded. “Yes, they’re our source of food in the labyrinth.”
“Could you give us some of the Black Geckoes to raise? We could supply a lot of food for you.” Gao Peng became more aggressive once he noticed that the Watchers weren’t as hard to deal with as he had imagined.
The Labyrinth Watcher shook its head. “No, you shall not take them as pets because these reptiles don’t reproduce with each other. However, if you are able to wake up our master, I believe he would be happy to trade with you… Actually we, the people of the Desolate Labyrinth, do not look upon the human race with hatred as some other forces in the Black Fog World do.”
Gao Peng was anxious. “There are other humans in the Black Fog World? Are they located close to the labyrinth?”
What concerned Gao Peng the most was if there were actually any traces of humans in the other world, since he knew that these Labyrinth Watchers had seen humans before through their reactions.
As Gao Peng still held reservations against the humans from other tribes…
It would be fine if the difference in powers of the tribes were minimal. However, if the opposite was true, it would only bring war and invasion.
Things had been this way since the dawn of time.
“Human?” The Labyrinth Watcher smirked. “I haven’t seen any humans in the past 70 years.”
“Do they live far from here?”
The Labyrinth Watcher took a glance at Gao Peng and said slowly, “No. Those liars escaped to the other world.”
“All right, human. You should go back first. Whenever you’re willing to wake our master for us, please come back,” the leader of Labyrinth Watchers said before he turned around to leave. His body disappeared behind the stone wall, and the other Watchers also left in different directions. The subtle sound of them walking faded as they walked away.
Gao Peng stood there silently, slowly digesting the words of the Labyrinth Watchers.
Actually, we, the people from the Desolate Labyrinth, do not discriminate against the human race as some other forces in the Black Fog World do… those liars escaped to the other world.
Gao Peng raised his eyebrows in confusion. It appeared that there had once been other humans in this world, but they had left a bad reputation.
But they didn’t know if the human race in that world had owned familiars… He had forgotten to ask the Labyrinth Watcher about that. They probably should have, since he worked so well with Dumby and the rest.
There were many people waiting on the other side of the Spacial Rift to return to the human world, such as his grandpa and Xu Heti, the tribe leader who was just waiting outside.
When Xu Heti saw Gao Peng, he sighed in relief. “If it wasn’t for the calm behavior of the rat you left outside, your grandpa would have forced himself inside,” he joked with Gao Peng as soon as the latter came out.
There was a big fat rat munching a carrot right beside him.
When it looked at Gao Peng’s eyes, the Treasure Sniffing Rodent’s seemed resentful. How could you ditch me…
“Grandpa, Minister Xu.” Gao Peng smiled while turning his head around to greet the other government executives.
“Have you guys beaten all the monsters?” Ji Hanwu said while giving approving glances.
“I just found something out… Let’s find a place and talk about it later.” Gao Peng looked around and realized that there were too many people there, so it would be better to talk in a quiet place.
They got in their cars and left. Afterward, they came to a government office building where there was a specially built room with secure soundproofed facilities.
Due to the strong hearing abilities some familiars possessed, this soundproof room was built specifically to prevent the surveillance of familiars that could understand human language.
Gao Peng told them about his conversation with the Labyrinth Watcher. Their reactions were similar to Gao Peng’s when he first heard the news. They were silent while digesting this extraordinary news.
The world is called the Black Fog World, and there used to be humans there, but they escaped to other worlds. Which world to be exact? Could they be on Earth Star?
And there were eight Lord-tier Monsters and a mysterious master in this Desolate Labyrinth.
The Black Fog World was far more powerful than they had imagined.
