Chapter 1017: No One Could Have Guessed

Compared to the pitch-black forest, it was much livelier outside, at least that towering flame hadn't disappeared yet. The entire mountain peak became illuminated by the glow of the fire. Doro stood not too far from the firelight, not expecting the broken blade he detonated to have such power, but a sense of unease was nagging at him. Things were unfolding beyond his expectations. Although the Fire Power contained within the broken blade was strong, it shouldn't be this terrifying. Feeling uneasy, Doro took a step back involuntarily. Up to now, he only heard the sound of flames burning, but hadn't heard any cry of pain from Mr. Rui.

No one, whether ordinary person or Superpower User, could make any sound under such circumstances of being burned by fire. But the situation inside this flame was bizarre to the extreme, apart from the sound of burning flames, no other sound emerged. This strange situation aroused a chill in Doro's heart, a chill that came naturally. He took several steps back, then squinted his eyes slightly trying to see clearly what was inside the flame. But the flames were too intense, even with his strength, he couldn't see through them.

The scorching heat wave made it hard to breathe, yet Sorres, not far from the flames, felt nothing, staring blankly at the towering flames before him. He never imagined that Mr. Rui, whom he served day and night, would perish in a sea of fire like this. If Mr. Rui died, then he would absolutely not survive either.

But where did that bastard Jue run off to at this critical moment? He didn't come to protect Mr. Rui, resulting in such a situation. In his desperation, Sorres was still blaming Jue. Sorres believed it wasn't his fault but due to Jue's lack of protection. Blame it all on Jue, that fool who doesn't know the gravity of matters. Various vicious ideas flashed through Sorres' mind, but he realized he no longer had the chance to implement these vicious thoughts. All that remained was a road to death.

Sorres stared blankly at the towering flames. If he were to die, he wanted to die in the flames rather than at the hands of the enemy. Almost as soon as this thought arose, Sorres stood up and, without realizing it, began walking toward the flames. He didn't walk fast, step by step, almost slow to describe, but each step demonstrated his resolve to face death. In his view, death was inevitable; it was better to end it all by suicide.

The red glow of the fire grew nearer, the oppressive heat more pronounced. Sorres could even smell the burnt odor of his body hair under the high temperature.

If only he hadn't come along. But what good would foresight do? Mr. Rui died here, so the enemy would eventually come for them, death was just a matter of time. It's a pity he could never see his grandchildren again. A slight sigh escaped him, Sorres' face turned gray-white, yet under the reflection of the firelight his skin grew red. There was no more expression in his eyes, only the gray of death.

Step by step forward, as if stepping into death itself. To think a lifetime of calculations would ultimately lead him to die in such circumstances. A swirl of thoughts churned in Sorres' mind, but no more desire to live. In this environment, such a desire was nothing short of luxurious.

The fire was right before him. Just a few more steps and he would be engulfed, free of all these tangled worries. At this moment, Sorres felt a sense of relief as if the heavy chains burdening him vanished suddenly. With a faint exhalation, Sorres was ready to meet his end.

And just then, a hand emerged from the flames, a flawlessly smooth and tender hand without a trace of scar. This hand appeared in the firelight so eerie that it demanded attention.

The hand lightly sliced through the air, a red light instantly transforming into a Light Arc. The Light Arc split open a rift in front of Sorres. The sudden change startled Sorres who was ready to die, and when he looked up to see the hand reaching out from the flames, he was first stunned, then a look of ecstasy spread across his face. He hadn't expected such a turnaround at the final moment, which to him was nothing short of a great blessing.

"Rui, Mr. Rui?" he said, somewhat doubtfully; Sorres still couldn't believe that in such flames, Mr. Rui wasn't turned to ashes.

"Stand back." A voice, cold and devoid of any emotion, came from within the flames, undoubtedly Mr. Rui's voice, yet his figure was unseen, except for that hand reaching from the flames.

Doro looked in horror at the hand extending from the flames. Although he felt a faint unease before, it had been merely speculation, but now that the speculation came true, the terror in his heart grew even more intense. He involuntarily wanted to turn and flee, but the dignity of a strong person prevented him from running. It was an extremely contradictory state, yet at this moment Doro exhibited it in full.

At this moment, Doro felt the whole world sinking into dead silence. His ears could no longer hear any sound, his eyes could no longer see any scene, except for the towering flames and that extremely abrupt hand.

That hand gently twitched, the five fingers danced in an extremely rhythmic way, and the towering flame started to contract and compress. A vortex appeared at the center of the flames, and all the fire began collapsing inward. As the flame vanished, a blurred figure appeared within.

From the indistinct figure, it could be recognized that Mr. Rui was opening his mouth wide, absorbing the surrounding flames. The terrifying vortex's center was his mouth, as he was absorbing all the fire into his body.

In less than five minutes, the originally formidable flames were entirely devoured by Mr. Rui. Mr. Rui let out a very satisfied burp, with tiny sparks bursting forth from his mouth. He showed no changes from absorbing so much Energy, as if those flames only made him feel slightly full.

Mr. Rui remained shrouded in flames, the hazy red glow blurring his silhouette, but his expressionless face was incredibly clear. Once the flames disappeared, a killing intent eliminating any will to resist reappeared. Mr. Rui's eyes, devoid of emotion, stared at Doro.

Doro, however, retreated repeatedly, the astonishment in his heart had reached an indescribable level. Was this before him a human or a monster? He couldn't determine, but he clearly knew he absolutely had no chance to defeat the person in front of him. He was too strong, strong to the point Doro had no means to resist. If previously Doro could still put up some resistance, now he had completely lost any intent to resist.

The thought of escaping overwhelmed the thought of fighting. And as this thought arose, Doro turned and ran regardless of everything. He didn't know where Yiyin had gone, but even if Yiyin were here, he wouldn't be able to help. Yiyin was also no match for Mr. Rui. Doro was utterly desperate. Initially, he came confidently to exact revenge on Mr. Rui, but who knew such a situation would arise.
