Chapter 384: The Downfall of the Alliance May Rest on Lu Luo

Calm down a bit. This person should still be of some use, the Observer's voice echoed in Lu Luo's mind.

Lu Luo nodded, looking at Chen Mo struggling in his grip, forcibly suppressing the urge to crush his head on the spot. The Observer was right; Chen Mo still had a shred of usefulness left.

He turned to look at the members of the Church.

"Has the Dawn Church fallen so low as to collude with the Exotic Species? I know you've lost the Holy Radiance and the guidance of the dawn, but even after losing the dawn, you shouldn't lose hope in your hearts. By doing this, where do you place the people of the Wasteland Alliance?"

Lu Luo's words were somewhat overbearing and sanctimonious. But at that moment, the other members of the Church were at a loss for words. Chen Mo had indeed become an Exotic Species, and they, too, had truly lost the Holy Radiance within their bodies. No one could answer where the Dawn Church was headed.

"We... we are from the Dawn Church..." a young female Priest suddenly spoke up.

Lu Luo hadn't expected some reckless youth to dare contradict him in such a situation.

This one isn't playing by the rules!

Indeed! Lu Luo silently agreed.

However, he wasn't about to give her a chance to argue. He interrupted her directly. "What of the Dawn Church? Can the Dawn Church disobey Alliance laws? Was Chen Mo's earlier ranting meant to imply the entire Inner Ring Council is a nonentity? Fine then. I'll hand this Exotic Species over to you. Kill him, and I will believe the Dawn Church's words."

CRACK!

Before the others could react, Lu Luo had broken all of Chen Mo's limbs and tossed him before the woman.

"There, the Exotic Species is before you. Now let's see the Church's stance. Surely not? Surely the Church isn't *really* colluding with the Exotic Species?"

"Uh... I..."

The woman already regretted speaking up. Why isn't this man playing by the rules?

"What's with all this 'you' and 'I' hesitation? Are you going to act or not? If you're not going to act, then why are you here? Doesn't the Dawn Church represent justice in the Alliance? So, where is your justice now?"

During the brief exchange, some, like Luo Xuemin and Shi Haoxuan, had noticed the change in Lu Luo's skin color. But by the time they looked at Lu Luo's palm again, his skin had returned to its normal human color, with nothing visibly out of the ordinary.

What was with his palm just now?

Was it the aura of an Exotic Species?

Many had witnessed the Church's Sacred Aberration—a power that inspired fear but also a degree of envy. If one could master Sequence, energy, and the power of the Exotic Species, becoming a composite of all three, what a formidable existence that would be!

Shi Haoxuan looked at Lu Luo with skepticism, scrutinizing him from head to toe. But after a long inspection revealed nothing amiss, he had to withdraw his gaze.

That person is no longer looking at you, but your father-in-law is still watching, the Observer noted.

Hmm, Uncle must have noticed, Lu Luo thought. But it doesn't matter. If I can't even assert my stance here, then I'm truly pathetic.

Lu Luo slowly took a step forward. As he did, all the Church members retreated a step. It was as if they sensed an oppressive aura emanating from him. With each step Lu Luo advanced, they retreated one. Ultimately, it all came down to strength.

The higher-ups in the Church, having lost the Holy Radiance, dared not show themselves at this time. The ordinary Believers sent out to handle matters were in a similar predicament; they, too, had lost their Holy Radiance. Those dispatched either had special circumstances, like Chen Mo who possessed other attribute energies, or their faith wasn't devout enough, meaning the backlash from the Holy Radiance's loss hadn't impacted them too deeply. Regardless, the consequences of losing the Holy Radiance were immense, the most obvious being a decline in combat prowess.

Moreover, these individuals were already unstable elements within the Church, so sending them out to do the dirty work was an excellent choice. If the Holy Radiance's influence on them was minimal, it meant they weren't sufficiently devout. And if undevout Believers died outside, it was no great loss.

"Chen Mo, if you had simply remained an ordinary Believer of Light, I truly wouldn't have killed you. But your mistake was misjudging your own strength, as well as mine."

Lu Luo's ring flashed, and a standard-issue iron sword appeared in his hand.

Lu Luo gripped the sword and thrust downwards.

SHUNK!

The blade pierced flesh, pinning Chen Mo to the ground.

"ARGH!"

Chen Mo shrieked in agony once more, yet no one spoke up for him.

Lu Luo glanced at the trembling ordinary Believers before him and then at the council members behind him. He suddenly found it all rather dull.

"Honestly," Lu Luo said, "I didn't expect the Dawn Church's arrogance to reach such heights. Without the Dawn Disc, you all still dare to stand so boldly before the Inner Ring Council, your supposed equals in power. Nor did I anticipate that the allies I chose would be so utterly incompetent. The Dawn Church, in such a weakened state, can still openly bully you. The Judgment Chief was right; the Inner Ring has decayed. Centuries of rule have blunted your edge. Such an Inner Ring is not for me."

SWISH!

With a flash of his blade, Chen Mo's head flew into the air.

Lu Luo had killed someone in front of so many people, yet no one dared to utter a word of protest.

The cannon fodder sent by the Church trembled uncontrollably. The bigwigs of the Inner Ring Council, however, furrowed their brows. Lu Luo didn't need to guess to know they were contemplating the potential backlash from the Church.

Only the younger generation in the Inner Ring Council, like Shi Tingyu, clenched their fists, wanting to speak up and intervene.

Lu Luo truly wanted to thank Shi Tingyu for her previous help, but thanking her now would only bring her trouble, so he decided against it.

Unless they somehow took charge one day, the Inner Ring Council would remain in the grip of these old scoundrels. And even if they did ascend to power, after decades of being worn down by the system, would they not become just like them, losing the sharp edge characteristic of Wasteland youth?

Regarding the Church and these old scoundrels of the Inner Ring, Lu Luo desperately wanted to shout to them that there would be no more backlash from the Church. For the next few years, the Church's higher-ups would be too preoccupied with energy transfer to have the resources to contend with the Inner Ring Council. But he said nothing. He knew that even if he told them, these old fossils from the Inner Ring Council wouldn't believe him.

The Inner Ring is tedious, Lu Luo mused. What the Judgment Chief did wasn't worth it.

Rather than say she did it for the Inner Ring, the Observer interjected, it's more accurate to say she did it for herself. Her true legacy, or perhaps her final wish, was likely the Dawn Disc.

That's true as well, Lu Luo conceded. The Inner Ring, or even the entire Wasteland Alliance, is just a twisted byproduct. No wonder the Judgment Chief wanted to tear it all down and rebuild. It's rotten to the core. What else can be done?

Lu Luo sheathed his iron sword and turned towards the door.

Just then, Luo Xuemin blocked his path.

"Lu Luo."

"What is it, Uncle?"

Lu Luo still held a fair amount of respect for Luo Xuemin. Among the thirteen council members, only he and Qi Xinzhu's father, Qi Lin, seemed to possess any real backbone. Luo Xuemin's earlier willingness to relinquish control over all media enterprises clearly showed he genuinely wanted to improve the Inner Ring Council. Unfortunately, he lacked sufficient power and resources. Grand Vision Weaponry, Lan Tian Biotech, and Sea Star Welfare—these three major corporations formed the bedrock of the Inner Ring's resources, and regrettably, Luo Xuemin had no authority to control them. This also meant he lacked significant influence within the Inner Ring.

Luo Xuemin looked at Lu Luo. After a moment of silence, he uttered a sentence that others might not fully grasp, but Lu Luo understood.

"I believe there's still a chance for the Inner Ring Council," Luo Xuemin said.

"Oh? Does Uncle truly believe so?" Lu Luo asked.

"Yes. I believe the Inner Ring Council still has a chance. It still has spirit—or at least, it still has people with spirit. Zhang Yifan, Shi Tingyu... these young people are very promising. So, the Inner Ring still has a chance."

The other council members felt Luo Xuemin had either gone mad or was suffering some kind of delusion. Talking about the council's chances with a kid from the Fourth Ring? If that's not idiocy, what is?

"Councilor Luo, have you lost your mind?" one of them questioned.

Others remained silent, like the representatives from the three major families, who were keen to hear what Luo Xuemin and Lu Luo, the two architects of the Alliance, thought about the council.

Luo Xuemin's gaze was intense; he didn't even turn to look at the person who had questioned him.

"Lu Luo, our cooperation will continue, and the development of the Wasteland Alliance will not stop here. This is my promise, and I will do my utmost to see it through."

After speaking, Luo Xuemin extended his Mechanical Arm toward the remaining members of the Church. Shi Haoxuan, standing beside him, instantly realized Luo Xuemin's intention. But before he could intervene, Luo Xuemin had already acted.

Intense beams of light instantly pierced the skulls of two Believers. A ruthless slaughter commenced at Luo Xuemin's hand. No one could have imagined that the usually gentle and refined Luo Xuemin would strike so fiercely, seemingly intent on wiping out every Church member present.

"Old Luo, you've gone mad!" Shi Haoxuan yelled, stepping forward to stop him.

But Luo Xuemin paid him no heed, even launching two missiles from his arm.

BOOM! BOOM!

Believers died in droves. Within a few breaths, Luo Xuemin had annihilated them all.

All the Inner Ring Council members stared at Luo Xuemin in disbelief, their eyes filled with fear. Only the younger generation showed a flicker of excitement in their gazes. The Church's oppression had lasted too long. Though supposedly an equal power, those living in the Inner Ring understood that the Church was the true sovereign of the Wasteland. The Inner Ring Council's existence was akin to that of a mere steward.

Luo Xuemin's actions officially heralded a complete schism between the Church and the Inner Ring Council. The two factions had finally, irrevocably, dropped all pretenses.

"Luo Xuemin, do you realize what you've done?"

Only then did Luo Xuemin turn to the woman surnamed Jin standing behind him.

"Me? I merely did what everyone else wanted to do but didn't dare. If it's something everyone wants, then it must be the right thing. Don't you agree, Councilor Jin?"

The members of the three major families watched Luo Xuemin contemplatively. They still maintained a wait-and-see attitude regarding his actions. What's done is done, they thought. We'll just have to see how things unfold.

Meanwhile, Lu Luo's gaze also rested on Luo Xuemin. Truthfully, Luo Xuemin's decisive action had surprised him. However, it also prompted Lu Luo to reconsider his views on the Inner Ring Council, this organization rotten to its very core.

Your father-in-law certainly has some substance, the Observer remarked.

Yes, he certainly does, Lu Luo agreed. And the Inner Ring Council is indeed rotten to the core. But after the rot, new shoots have also sprouted.

Lu Luo stopped and offered Luo Xuemin a polite smile.

"I've seen your resolve, Uncle. Rest assured, our cooperation will continue. After all, the Inner Ring needs development, and the Fourth Ring needs it just as much!"

"Good," Luo Xuemin replied. "Then here's to our successful cooperation."

"To our success," Lu Luo echoed.

Their exchange was brief, yet it was this short conversation that would shape the development of the entire Wasteland Alliance for years to come.

After Lu Luo left, Luo Xuemin breathed a slight sigh of relief and said to Zhang Yifan, who was standing beside him, "Dispose of these bodies."

Zhang Yifan calmly surveyed the corpses and bloodstains on the ground, then suddenly asked, "Shouldn't we do something more?"

Luo Xuemin was momentarily stunned. He didn't grasp Zhang Yifan's meaning at first but quickly caught on.

"You're right. This is the time to send the Church a clear message. Process the bodies quickly and send them to the Church."

Only then did Zhang Yifan smile. "Understood. I'll see to it immediately."

Luo Xuemin hadn't lowered his voice, so many people heard him. They still couldn't understand why he would go to such lengths. Was it really necessary to escalate things with the Church to this degree? they wondered.

The Chairman of the Inner Ring Council, Shi Haoxuan, who had been standing beside Luo Xuemin, actually had a burgeoning understanding of the situation. He could vaguely guess some of Luo Xuemin's intentions, which is why he hadn't intervened. However, he could only grasp a part of it and didn't fully comprehend the specifics.

"Why are you doing this?" Shi Haoxuan asked.

"What have I done?" Luo Xuemin countered.

"Why push things this far with the Church? And what's this about a promise to that boy? I know he's your son-in-law, but someone like you... surely you wouldn't go to such lengths just for a son-in-law, would you?"

The other Inner Ring Council members, who had been about to leave, froze. The air in the chamber suddenly stilled. They all wanted to understand the true meaning behind Luo Xuemin's actions.

And Luo Xuemin did not disappoint.

He pointed to the unused conference table. "Please, sit. We convene often, but in truth, it's been a long time since we've truly talked, had a heart-to-heart."

This sudden display of sentiment left the others somewhat unsettled. Nevertheless, most of them sat down. They, too, wanted to hear Luo Xuemin's perspective. After all, within the relatively small circle of the Inner Ring Council, Luo Xuemin was already regarded as a sage. He possessed not only the wisdom but also the courage to act.

"Gentlemen, do you all feel optimistic about the current situation?" Luo Xuemin began.

"Hmm? What do you mean, Councilor Luo?"

Some didn't quite grasp Luo Xuemin's implication, though others were beginning to understand.

Luo Xuemin sighed softly as he observed the few council members with bewildered expressions. That's the way of family legacies, he mused. If a Family Head is incompetent, it inevitably impacts the entire family's development. If that Family Head is also a council member, it's even more disastrous.

A group isn't afraid of a few mediocre members, Luo Xuemin thought, but truly detrimental ones are another matter. One doesn't fear god-like opponents, only pig-like allies—it's the same principle. Faced with such colleagues, he felt a sense of helplessness.

"It seems I need to explain the situation in detail for you to understand," Luo Xuemin stated, causing some of them to flush with embarrassment.

Is he mocking our incompetence? they fumed silently.

"Enough with the details, just get on with it!" one grumbled.

"The Inner Ring is currently very dangerous," Luo Xuemin stated.

"How is that possible? The Inner Ring is the safest place in the world!" someone retorted.

Luo Xuemin immediately cut them off. "That was in the past. The Inner Ring *used* to be considered the safest because of the Church, our Inner Ring Council, and the Constitution Guard Corps. But have any of you considered what the Inner Ring has left now? The Church? They've lost their Holy Radiance. Barring any surprises, the Church will likely lie low and focus on recuperation for the next few years. Do you think Lu Luo acted so aggressively, slapping the Church in the face, without reason or understanding? He dared to strike at this moment precisely because he saw their weakness. The Church's Soxth and Seventh Tier experts are undoubtedly scrambling to cultivate new attribute energies. Who among them has time to deal with him? As long as those high-Tiers don't intervene, Lu Luo, as an ally of the Inner Ring Council, is virtually untouchable in the Inner Ring. He saw this, and he hoped we would too. He's a crucial figure. He's given you all plenty of hints, but none of you saw it."

After hearing this, a few council members discussed it briefly among themselves. Although Luo Xuemin's words seemed to hold some logic, they still didn't consider Lu Luo a particularly important figure.

"A mere Fourth Ring dweller?" Councilor Jin remarked, arching an eyebrow.

Luo Xuemin snatched the teacup beside him and hurled it at her.

BANG!

The teacup shattered against the table. Splashing tea soaked Councilor Jin. She looked ready to explode with fury but, after a glance at Shi Haoxuan, restrained herself.

"Luo Xuemin, you're going too far!" she seethed.

"Too far? You're the ones who are too far gone!" Luo Xuemin retorted. "Arrogant and ignorant! Even now, you fail to understand the true state of the Inner Ring Council, the Inner Ring itself, and the entire Wasteland Alliance! We can no longer rely on the Church. Without the Church, without the Dawn Disc, our strength—our high-tier experts—will become expendable resources! Do you understand that?"

Shi Haoxuan and a few others finally began to grasp his meaning. Luo Xuemin hadn't explicitly mentioned the problem with the Seventh Tier, but his assertion that high-end power would become expendable served as a stark wake-up call. Currently, Seventh Tier experts all required a surge of power from the Dawn Disc to achieve their final breakthrough for promotion. Now that the Dawn Disc had vanished, the Inner Ring's Seventh Tier experts would indeed become an expendable commodity. If a Seventh Tier expert died or succumbed to old age, it would be a devastating blow, a true catastrophe, for their family.

Seeing that they were finally grasping his meaning, Luo Xuemin continued, "And that's just one part of the problem. Without the Church's strength, we've completely lost control over the Outer Rings. Moreover, we no longer possess the power to reclaim the Fourth Ring. Without the Fourth Ring, we have no resources, no population. The Inner Ring's current consumption can be sustained by dipping into our reserves, but what about later?"

Councilor Jin swallowed hard. "What will happen then?"

"The Inner Ring has no arable land, no farms, no pastures. Once our existing resources are depleted, the Inner Ring will descend into an era of chaos. If the Fourth Ring then blockades trade with us, the Inner Ring will become even more desolate than the Fourth Ring ever was."

Luo Xuemin's words sounded alarmist. Even now, the others found it hard to believe.

"H-how could that be possible?" one stammered.

"And why not?" Luo Xuemin countered.

"But... the Fourth Ring is such an impoverished place."

"No 'buts'!" Luo Xuemin snapped. "Furthermore, the Fourth Ring is no longer what it once was. They aren't impoverished at all. Even before recent events, their Dark Energy Level was already comparable to the Inner Ring's. After a brief period of chaos, the Fourth Ring's resources can now be described as abundant. We, on the other hand, have lost the Dawn Disc, and our Dark Energy Level will continue to decline. Soon, the Inner Ring will lag behind in resources, energy, and the caliber of its Transcendents. Wake up! It is precisely because the Inner Ring is likely to face a very precarious future that Lu Luo, as the trade link between us and the Fourth Ring, becomes so utterly crucial! Do you understand now?"

By the end, Luo Xuemin was almost shouting.

The Inner Ring Council's situation was indeed dire, but not unsalvageable. If they could achieve even a modicum of unity, their collective power would still be immense. Unfortunately, most of the time, these individuals couldn't even manage that.

In contrast, the three major families were far calmer. Each controlled sufficient resources and channels; even if the Inner Ring were isolated, they had ways to smuggle goods. Thus, this particular crisis wasn't especially urgent for them.

At this point, Shi Haoxuan stood up. "This matter indeed has the potential to develop as Old Luo described. We, the Inner Ring Council, must also prepare. Only by being prepared can we effectively respond to potential contingencies."

Mere platitudes, Luo Xuemin thought, devoid of any real substance. He felt a wave of disappointment and weariness. For a fleeting moment, he even entertained the idea of following Lu Luo to the Fourth Ring to build something new. But aspirations were one thing, reality another. The Luo Family was not his alone to manage; he was responsible for far too much.

"I've said all I can about the Alliance, the Inner Ring Council, and all of you. I've done everything in my power. I'm tired. I intend to rest for a while. Gentlemen, the future rests in your hands. I hope you will all act wisely."

After Luo Xuemin departed, the conference room once again descended into squabbling, though the subject of their arguments was unclear. But then, ever since the Inner Ring Council's inception, such disputes had seemingly never ceased.

Where there are people, there will be rivalries and power struggles; where there are people, there will be conflict. There are no eternal friends, only eternal interests. When they formed a community of shared interests, they were naturally a united Inner Ring Council. But when the division of those interests was no longer equitable or failed to satisfy everyone, new conflicts would inevitably arise. It was an infinite cycle, one that had never changed.

Lu Luo returned to Qi Xinzhu's bedroom. The moment he reached the door, he sensed something amiss.

This is... the aura of a Disc!

He sensed Discs—in fact, he sensed two of them, right there in the room.

What are you waiting for? the Observer urged. Both your wives are in there. Get in!

Lu Luo, who had been hesitating in bewilderment, jolted as if waking from a dream and hurriedly rushed inside.

"Oh no!" he exclaimed.

The moment he entered, Lu Luo was stunned by the sight before him.

Above Dumb Hair's and Qi Xinzhu's heads floated two specks of light: one gold, one white. Lu Luo didn't even need to actively perceive them to feel the potent energy and aura they emanated.

This must be the last of the Holy Radiance and the Truth, right? he wondered.

The Star of Dawn. The Key of Truth, the Observer identified.

Lu Luo didn't know the purpose of these two items, but their mere existence seemed to bring a sliver of new hope. Qi Xinzhu, for instance, was already radiating an abundant Holy Radiance. This Holy Radiance was exceptionally pure and seemed self-sustaining. This brought a wave of delight to Lu Luo, as the reappearance of Holy Radiance meant Qi Xinzhu's strength might be restored—a matter of utmost importance. No Transcendent was indifferent to their own strength, and Qi Xinzhu was no exception. She hadn't painstakingly cultivated to the Fourth Tier just to become mere window dressing.

Compared to Qi Xinzhu, Dumb Hair's situation was far more complex and peculiar. Although the Key of Truth also radiated light, it seemed to possess no energy whatsoever. Lu Luo couldn't sense even the most basic Dark Energy from it, let alone anything comparable to the solar flares unleashed by the Judgment Chief. The Key of Truth's appearance seemed to be a response to the Star of Dawn. Their relationship was like that of fated adversaries: eternally entangled, yet also symbiotic.

Lu Luo pressed his palms together, summoning several Second and Third Tier Specter Species to patrol the room. This way, if anyone approached, the Specter Species could either intercept them or alert him immediately. He needed to stand guard for the two women and protect them until they awakened.

"Explain. What's happening?" Lu Luo asked the Observer.

You're asking me about matters beyond the Sequence? the Observer retorted.

"Right," Lu Luo muttered, resigning himself to waiting.

He sat quietly to one side, awaiting the awakening of his two wives. But the process dragged on interminably.

Initially, it was manageable. Luo Xuemin and Qi Lin were willing to grant Lu Luo some private space. But as time stretched into the third day, they too began to sense that something was amiss.

"Lu Luo, what's going on?" Qi Lin asked, now desperate to see his daughter. Since Lu Luo's arrival in the Inner Ring, Qi Xinzhu had faced numerous troubles, leaving Qi Lin deeply unsettled.

Luo Xuemin felt similarly anxious. He knew his daughter, Bai Yuetong, possessed no Transcendent abilities. For them to remain in the room for such an extended period, something must have gone wrong. As her father, he felt compelled to check on them, or at the very least, to understand what was happening.

"Yes, Lu Luo," Luo Xuemin chimed in. "You should at least let us see what's going on inside. It's been nearly four days. Whatever has happened, we deserve to know."

Looking at his two fathers-in-law, Lu Luo's expression turned grim. Normally, there would be no issue with them seeing their daughters. But the current situation with Qi Xinzhu and Bai Yuetong was too sensitive to be revealed—not even to their own fathers. This secrecy was not only to protect Qi Xinzhu and Bai Yuetong but also their fathers. What had appeared inside simply could not be revealed to the world. Setting aside the Key of Truth, only those who had participated in the great battle at the First Ring had ever seen the Truth Disc. But the Dawn Disc was different; it had existed for over a thousand years. Countless people throughout the Wasteland Alliance knew of it. Now that everyone had lost their Holy Radiance and the Dawn Disc itself was gone, if word got out that Qi Xinzhu possessed a Star of Dawn capable of restoring Holy Radiance... That would be the *only* source of Holy Radiance in existence! They would undoubtedly face frenzied attacks, especially from Church personnel. Lu Luo wasn't arrogant enough to believe his current self could contend with the entire Church. A wounded beast, though significantly less threatening, still possessed fangs and claws capable of killing. He didn't want to take that gamble. He could trust his two fathers-in-law, but he couldn't trust the people of the Inner Ring. In the world of Transcendents, there were far too many ways to extract information. All Lu Luo could do was keep this matter as secret as possible, to bury it deep and never speak of it.

"I apologize, Uncles, but the situation inside is extremely delicate. I'm afraid I cannot allow you to enter."

"Why not?" Qi Lin demanded.

"On what grounds do you refuse us?" Luo Xuemin added, his voice sharp.

The adamant stance of his two fathers-in-law gave Lu Luo a headache, but even so, he had no intention of letting them in.

"I am truly sorry. I understand your concern for Xinzhu and Bai Yuetong. But the current situation is incredibly complex. They are in a critical state and must not be disturbed or observed by anyone. Not even by you. I hope you won't make this more difficult for me. Once they awaken, I will offer my sincerest apologies immediately. However, if you take even one step further now, I will be forced to remove you. I am being completely serious. This is no joke. Please, trust me."

Qi Lin's expression was conflicted. He didn't understand the intricacies of Transcendent affairs, so he was unsure what to say.

Luo Xuemin, however, was different. He was a hidden Soxth Tier expert. His strength allowed him to perceive far more.

"Lu Luo, what are you hiding?" Luo Xuemin asked, his voice low.

"I'm hiding something vital," Lu Luo replied, "something that concerns both their futures. It's incredibly important. It's not that I don't trust you both, but walls have ears."

Luo Xuemin stared intently at Lu Luo, both men now exuding a palpable aura. Seeing Lu Luo stand his ground, even showing signs he was prepared to act, Luo Xuemin finally relented.

"It seems the situation you described is indeed exceptional. Very well. Since I've trusted you many times before, there's no harm in trusting you once more. After this is over, remember to come and make your apologies. Old Qi, let's go."

Just as Lu Luo had anticipated, Luo Xuemin was a remarkably wise father-in-law. After some subtle probing to gauge Lu Luo's resolve, he immediately abandoned his intention to enter. This allowed Lu Luo to breathe a sigh of relief.

"Thank you for your understanding, Uncle Luo. And Uncle Qi, please rest assured, nothing bad will happen. In fact, in a way, it's a good thing."

Qi Lin nodded thoughtfully. "As long as it's good news."

Just as Lu Luo finally breathed a sigh of relief, Qi Xinzhu's voice came from behind him.

"Lu Luo, what's wrong?"
