The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 411: A Sudden Turn

Immortal Light streamed from all directions.

The immortals who scattered after the havoc in the Heavenly Palace are returning to Kunlun Mountain one by one, their numbers too great to count.

Before dawn, a huge roar came from the west, and the faces of the immortals were filled with joy.

"Your Majesty, it seems that Buddha has succeeded."

Yuqing walked to the summit of Kunlun, and spoke to the Jade Emperor gazing into the horizon: "The presence of Sun Wukong has disappeared."

"But Buddha's presence has also disappeared."

The Jade Emperor spoke, also unable to sense Buddha's aura.

The flames of Lingshan did not stop, but their scale had significantly calmed down.

The battle between the two Heavenly Venerates and the Bodhisattvas continued, but Buddha and Sun Wukong had vanished.

What's the meaning of such a contest?

The Jade Emperor pondered.

This kind of contest, was as if they were personally handing over the fruits of victory.

"Your Majesty."

Seeing through the mind of the Jade Emperor, Yuqing reminded: "We must not miss this opportunity."

"I understand."

The Jade Emperor nodded and turned to Yuqing, saying, "Send the order, begin the attack."

Not long after, amongst the tranquil mountains, Immortal Light rose one after another, flying towards the Eastern Divine Continent and the Heavenly Palace. When their numbers were sufficient, they formed two huge currents in the sky.

The great assembly of immortals made their move, their stories once began in Kunlun Mountain, and today, they embarked from Kunlun once again.

No one could stop this torrent.

The situation at Huaguo Mountain in the Eastern Continent swiftly began to deteriorate.

Yet this was just a microcosm of the vast world.

In the Southern Continent, a storm was imminent, columns of light above different cities were extinguished one by one.

The extinguishing of these light columns represented the receding tide of the Wanling Net.

Emperor Donghua floated silently above Chang'an City, watching light columns that had just risen extinguished.

Ksitigarbha breathed a sigh of relief.

"The operation of Wanling Heavenly Dao has stopped."

He said.

Without the will of Sun Wukong, the Wanling Heavenly Dao became disordered.

The Heavenly Dao in various places around the world stopped functioning, and the light blooming in humans' hands gradually went out.

"You have lost."

Ksitigarbha seemed to envision the ensuing scenes.

In Chang'an City, someone burst into laughter.

"They've lost their power!"

"The Heavenly Emperor has fallen!"

"Attack, attack!"

The suppressed rebels suddenly revolted, quickly turning the tide of the battle.

The flames of rebellion rekindled in many corners of Chang'an City, surged forth, clashing fiercely with the Heavenly Taoist Sect.

Swathes of flames caused the architecture of Chang'an City to explode loudly.

The capital of the Southern Continent was burning fiercely, the flames reflecting in Emperor Donghua's eyes, cries of agony echoing in his ears.

He had to make a decision.

With a "boom," the signal for retreat erupted in the sky.

The Heavenly Taoist Sect retreated from the city like a tide.

Scenes flashed through Emperor Donghua's eyes, he could predict and perceive some events, although not accurately, he could still foresee.

Retreat was not the end; the shift in people's hearts was the crux.

After the loss of spells, could the Heavenly Taoist Sect remain united as before?

Emperor Donghua was somewhat worried, but he knew, this did not mean defeat.

As long as Sun Wukong was not dead, the fire of Heavenly Dao would be ignited in this world once again.

At Huaguo Mountain, the lights of floating cities went out.

The surrounding air turned abruptly crisp and clear.

Demons scrambled to replace the force of Heavenly Dao with the original energy of the Spiritual Network, but could not prevent the panic amongst the crowds.

"The program of the Experience Hall has crashed."

"The spells are not working."

Ever since the rebuilding of Huaguo Mountain, the familiar Wanling Heavenly Dao they had grown accustomed to had vanished.

Everyone was acutely aware that the Wanling Heavenly Dao wouldn't disappear unless it was...

"The Great King has fallen!"

Panic spread through the crowd.

At this time, dark clouds flew over from the sea.

"Sun Wukong has fallen, Huaguo Mountain is now ours!"

"Let's all go in and loot the treasures!"

A devil inside shouted.

Huaguo Mountain was unprecedentedly vulnerable, and these devils were the first to react.

But even at its weakest, how could Huaguo Mountain be something these devils could contend with?

Following a thunderous explosion, golden light tore through the dark clouds, and the shockwave instantly swept aside—thousands of devils were torn apart, falling from the sky.

"Fools who aren't afraid of death!"

The Golden Winged Great Peng licked the blood on his hands, his gaze filled with fury.

"Fallen, fallen my ass!"

He looked towards the west; Sun Wukong was the only person he admired, how could he fall so easily.

"If he can't even protect Huaguo Mountain, I might as well take over as the Heavenly Emperor!"

The Golden Winged Great Peng bitterly thought.

The sky suddenly brightened, and the Golden Winged Great Peng lifted his head, the bright glow illuminating the clouds.

An elegant White Dragon appeared in the sky.

Ao Luan reverted to her original form, radiating light, all the Floating Cities under her feet.

"Lift your heads."

At her call, every Wanling person lifted their heads to gaze into her majestic and calm eyes.

"Fairy, what's happened to the Great King?"

A devil loudly inquired.

Ao Luan circled once, something glittered beneath her.

People instinctively looked over, then suddenly froze.

One by one, enormous Spiritual Objects manifested in the sky, so familiar that it made all the Wanling people within hundreds of miles gasp in astonishment.

Above the Floating City, dozens of Floating Ships were created before everyone's eyes.

"Heavenly Dao."

Whether humans or demons, upon seeing this scene, the light returned to their eyes.

This was the Heavenly Dao.

Their familiar Wanling Heavenly Dao.

The Heavenly Dao creations, never seen before, were employed by Ao Luan.

"The Wanling Heavenly Dao has been blocked by Lingshan, but it has not disappeared, my brother has not failed."

Ao Luan's voice resonated in the sky: "Now is the time for you to prove yourselves, the battles ahead will be tougher, but the Wanling Heavenly Dao will not vanish."

The Wanling people were once more excited.

"The Great King is not dead!"

"The Great King is invincible, how could he be defeated by Buddha!"

As long as the Wanling Heavenly Dao hadn't disappeared, it was proof that Sun Wukong still existed.

All was not without hope.

"Quickly, retrieve the Heavenly Dao!"

The Wanling people resumed casting spells, and faint glimmers of light came alive once again.

These lights seemed weak, but together they were overwhelmingly powerful.

"This is the way."

Ao Luan looked on with joy in her heart.

She did not know what had transpired in Lingshan, but she understood the reason why the Wanling Heavenly Dao had become difficult to wield.

"It must be because my brother's Divine Soul has left his body."

Ao Luan cast her gaze westward, a glint of light sparkling in her eyes.

Only if the Divine Soul had left the body, Sun Wukong would be unable to control the Heavenly Dao, and their spells would be hard to cast.

But if that were true, then perhaps she could help Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong's Divine Soul and the Heavenly Dao were originally one; as long as the Heavenly Dao was strong enough, there was a chance to pull his Divine Soul back.
