The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 385: Six-Eared Journey (Part 2)

The carriage rumbled down the road, meeting people from the Northern Continent who all wore smiles on their faces.

Compared to other Divine Continents, the people here seemed more enthusiastic.

"It wasn't like this before."

The man leading the way on a tall horse through the forest said, "Back then, people were afraid to travel far, but now everywhere is safe. With more foreigners coming and going, people have changed."

A few leopards blocked the way ahead.

"Here."

The man took a flask of wine from his waist and tossed it to the leopards, who grabbed the wine with their mouths and turned back into the bushes.

"Isn't that a demon?"

The young girl asked.

"Yes, it's a demon. This is a conservation area for demons."

The man replied, "These demons are being taught and nurtured by the Mountain God. I'll take you through here quickly to avoid angering the Mountain God."

The Six-Eared Macaque sped up the carriage.

"Aren't you afraid of demons?"

The girl, seeing the man skillfully handle various demons, couldn't help but become curious.

"The Great Demons have all gone to the cities, leaving only the small demons that haven't done evil."

The man said, "The Mountain Gods and guardians of each area keep these small demons in check. In Wanling Country, humans and demons are treated equally, and we humans are repeatedly reminded to treat demons kindly."

The girl found this very incredible.

After leaving the forest, the Six-Eared Macaque continued on the road with the girl.

"Great King, it seems like there are a few demon nations in the Northern Continent."

The girl said.

"Um."

The Six-Eared Macaque nodded.

For demons, the Northern Continent was also a good place.

While being hunted in the other Three Great Continents, they were treated kindly in the Northern Continent and had even built a few cities for some demons that harbored resentment towards humans.

Although there were still some disputes between humans and demons from time to time, it was only five years, and the racial views in the Northern Continent had changed significantly, which showed Sun Wukong's strong ability to educate.

"Those Mountain Gods and guardians are also quite obedient."

The Six-Eared Macaque thought.

Sun Wukong's education in the Northern Continent heavily utilized the power of the Mountain Gods and guardians.

These lesser immortals in the Northern Continent were no longer mysterious beings; they could quickly execute the commands of Wanling Country and often appear in human sight.

In these five years, the Mountain Gods and guardians in the Northern Continent had received a lot of offerings and undergone fundamental changes. Although still lesser immortals, their cultivation had improved significantly.

Thus, the Mountain Gods and guardians here were now loyal to Sun Wukong without a doubt.

Even some Mountain Gods and guardians from the other Three Great Continents had secretly defected to become spies for Wanling Country.

The Six-Eared Macaque had once seen a Mountain God actively protect members of the Heavenly Taoist Sect.

"Interest indeed is the supreme magical treasure for loyalty."

The Six-Eared Macaque thought, driving the carriage to a small town.

They arrived at night, yet the town square was still brightly lit and crowded with people.

"Great King, what are they doing?"

The girl asked curiously.

"Studying."

The Six-Eared Macaque moved his ears slightly and understood completely.

The crowd gathered around a huge mirror watching images transmitted from Huaguo Mountain.

In the images, demons were teaching some Wanling knowledge. Perhaps to avoid dullness, during the lessons, they intermittently showed other things.

Like songs, dramas, or experiences from Huaguo Mountain—captivating the attention of the crowd.

"One mirror is not enough, we need to pool money to buy a new one."

Among the crowd, a few elders were discussing with the young people about acquiring a mirror, "We must do this for the future of our children."

"But... this money..."

Some young people hesitated.

"Kunshan is recruiting workers to build a reservoir; let's gather some people and head there as well."

The elders spoke again.

Upon hearing this, the young people immediately became spirited.

"A reservoir? There must be people from Wanling coming!"

"We should go and help!"

"Perhaps we could learn even more."

The crowd was buzzing with discussion.

While listening to these discussions, the Six-Eared Macaque went with the young girl to find an inn.

After settling down in the inn and taking a bath, he heard the innkeeper praying in the courtyard.

"May the Heavenly Emperor bless my child to pass the exams smoothly."

The innkeeper placed incense before the statue of the Heavenly Emperor.

"The hearts of the people have changed."

Seeing this, the Six-Eared Macaque sighed, the journey making him more fearful of Sun Wukong.

Changing a continent in five years, what a terrifying and enlightening feat.

The wills of these mortals had already been instilled in Sun Wukong, his position as the Heavenly Emperor growing ever more stable.

After the exhausting journey, the young girl felt sleepy and soon fell asleep.

The Six-Eared Macaque left the room and went up to the rooftop.

"Six-Eared Macaque, what brings you here?"

An acquaintance had already been waiting for him on the rooftop.

"Just having a look."

The Six-Eared Macaque looked strangely at the Macaque King: "Have you truly lost all your emotions?"

"It's a blessing from the Heavenly Emperor."

The Macaque King replied calmly.

The Six-Eared Macaque was curious: "A blessing?"

"Indeed, a blessing."

The Macaque King contemplated for a moment and then decided there was no harm in explaining.

He answered rationally: "Without emotions, one can make the right choices, better suited to learning and mastering the Wanling Heavenly Dao, the advantages outweighing the disadvantages in the long run."

The Six-Eared Macaque was bewildered.

He perked up his ears and soon discerned the result amidst the chaotic noise.

Those demons of Huaguo Mountain who had lost their emotions were gradually regaining them, and they had all grown significantly.

In a state of absolute rationality, the demons could work diligently, learn a great deal, being emotional might not allow such focus.

Some demons even wished that Sun Wukong would continue to erase their emotions.

"I hadn't expected this effect."

The Six-Eared Macaque was somewhat surprised.

The Macaque King looked at the Six-Eared Macaque: "Why haven't you established a Demon Kingdom these years?"

"Tired."

The Six-Eared Macaque replied: "I'll leave the affairs of this world to those two monsters, I've given up."

"You're right to do so."

The Macaque King nodded: "The Heavenly Emperor is unfathomable; you don't have the power to defeat him."

Although this was true, the Six-Eared Macaque felt somewhat displeased hearing a former subordinate say this.

"Don't underestimate Buddha; Buddha is also unfathomable, and it's still unknown who will prevail."

"Even so."

The Macaque King shook his head: "The more I observe, the clearer it becomes."

"The path that the Heavenly Emperor has taken is the one that all beings of the Three Realms yearn for, no matter what divine skills Buddha possesses, he ultimately cannot change the faith of the masses."

He didn't think Sun Wukong would lose to Buddha.

Only those who had witnessed the development of the Northern Continent would understand the power of Wanling Country.

The sparks here had already been ignited and would soon spread across the other Three Great Continents, unstoppable by anyone.
