The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 324: Courting Death Again

The shining Jingu Bang was stuck on the ruins of the Western Heavenly Gate.

Sun Wukong sat alone on the broken walls, his eyes closed in rest.

The Immortals stood in the distance, watching this scene and discussing amongst themselves.

"The Great Saint hasn't moved for half a day; I think he must be truly asleep."

Someone said.

"Impossible, fall asleep while fighting?"

Water Virtues Star Monarch's face was full of doubt.

"Our junior brother has always been quite a heavy sleeper."

Immortal Zhenyuan stroked his long beard: "But come to think of it, his appearance is getting more and more handsome..."

Sun Wukong was originally the Monkey King, and now adorned with golden armor and a golden crown, even sitting there resting, he was extremely handsome.

A sky filled with red clouds pressed down, it was the raging Fire Department Gods, included were the remaining Heavenly River navy, as well as the distressed Wang Lingguan, Tian Peng, and Nezha, the trio.

Sun Wukong's consciousness gradually began to hear voices.

"Great Emperor, Emperor..."

A familiar voice inquired: "Are you also here to capture our junior brother?"

There were also voices giving orders that had not been heard in a long time.

"Fire Department Gods, immediately form the array!"

After that command, Sun Wukong opened his eyes.

The lengthy dream ended.

It seemed as though many people, many affairs, were intertwined in his mind, making him unable to sort them out for a moment, his head somewhat muddled.

However, amidst the confusion, a tear fell from the corner of his eye.

"What is this?"

Sun Wukong reached out to catch the tear.

The tear turned into a crystal in the palm of his hand.

The Immortals in the distance were startled by this scene.

"Why is the Great Saint crying?"

"Could it be he slept too long and had a nightmare."

Water Virtues Star Monarch said.

"Monster monkey, it's no use crying now!"

Seeing this scene, Tota Li Heavenly King couldn't help but sneer: "We've already surrounded you, why not surrender immediately!"

Sun Wukong raised his head to look at him.

A strong sense of déjà vu came over him, causing his head to ache faintly.

He placed the tear inside his chest, stood up, and surveyed the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals filling the skies, as well as Nezha, Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy, and Wang Lingguan returning to the battlefield.

"I have to fight again."

This thought flashed through his mind, and Sun Wukong did not know where it came from.

The Marching Cloud was already very close, he reached out and grasped the Jingu Bang by his side.

Sun Wukong took a step forward.

"Great Saint."

It was as if countless voices rang out behind him.

Sun Wukong stopped his step and looked back, seeing no one there.

He continued forward without stopping.

"Go."

The next moment, both he and the Jingu Bang had disappeared, leaving only a trace of flame behind.

Sun Wukong charged straight into the Marching Cloud, the Jingu Bang in his hand as light as a feather, wielded with ease.

The fierce gusts of the staff instantly wreaked havoc, the sea of clouds tumbling in the fierce wind, and for a time the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals were tossed about like duckweed, the large array torn to shreds.

"Sun Wukong, take my spear!"

Nezha steadied himself, transformed into Three Heads and Six Arms, and attacked Sun Wukong.

Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy and Wang Lingguan also swung their Nine-toothed Spiked Rake and Golden Whip from different directions, ferociously advancing towards Sun Wukong.

The still half-asleep Sun Wukong felt a familiar sensation swelling within him.

Without needing to think, he too changed into Three Heads and Six Arms and fought against the three of them.

Nezha pinched a Spell and the Wind Fire Wheel beneath his feet whooshed away, in the blink of an eye, the flames on the wheel surged like an inverted deluge of seawater bursting forth.

The red flames engulfed Sun Wukong's entire body, the iron on his armor was instantly turned red by the flames, flowing like molten lava over his body.

Sun Wukong seemed to have anticipated this, casually stirring with the Jingu Bang.

The fire and lava gathered from his body into a stream of red magma, then like a dragon reversing the current, the magma enveloped the Jingu Bang, as if clothing it in molten armor.

Sun Wukong collected the flames of the Wind Fire Wheel until not a spark was left.

Soon after, two rays of light flew from the distance, stopping beside Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad.

They were two benevolent looking old men.

Seeing the situation before them, where Sun Wukong completely had the upper hand.

Shangqing's face turned cold: "How preposterous, I'll lend them a hand!"

He brushed with his right hand, and the horsetail whisk suddenly stretched out, piercing through the impenetrable ranks of soldiers, wrapping towards Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong did not even turn his head, as soon as the horsetail whisk passed by, it began to burn vigorously upon his protective flames.

"Those flames!"

Heavenly King Li paled considerably: "How come his merit hasn't run out yet!"

"Come back!"

Shangqing Venerate retracted his horsetail whisk, along with the torn sleeve ablaze with flames, and tossed it aside.

"Why would the Merit Fire burn me!"

He asked in surprise.

"That's not Merit Fire."

Yuqing furrowed his brows.

The flames burning beside Sun Wukong simply looked like Merit Fire, but they weren't.

"That's grudge!"

Yuqing and Shangqing exchanged a glance, reading the same shock in each other's eyes.

"No, that's not right."

Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad suddenly spoke up: "Behind that grudge, there's something else!"

Behind Sun Wukong was a cluster of grudge mist-like that ordinary people couldn't see.

Yet, behind the grudge, countless invisible stars to mortals twinkled, not yet exerting their effect but emitting an aura chilling enough to make one shudder.

"What is that?"

Lord Lao Zi was curious about the unknown entity.

"It seems to be... a map?"

Shangqing used his Dharma Eye to look, but could only make out a vague shape.

He felt a splitting headache after looking for a while and gave up.

"Lord, is your Vajra Bracelet of any use?"

At this time, Yuqing asked Lord Lao Zi.

Lord Lao Zi took out a bracelet from his sleeve and threw it towards Sun Wukong.

The Vajra Bracelet circled twice in the air, found an opening, and fiercely plunged down, only to be repelled by a formidable breath with a clang, without getting close to Sun Wukong.

The Three Pure Ones were all startled simultaneously.

"The aura of the Heavenly Dao."

"How could this be!"

Shangqing and Yuqing looked at Lord Lao Zi: "Lord, how could he have Heavenly Dao for protection?"

"I don't know."

Lord Lao Zi shook his head solemnly.

He had spent years with Sun Wukong on Huaguo Mountain and had never seen that aura before.

"It seems that something I'm unaware of has happened to the Great Saint."

He said.

Shangqing and Yuqing looked at Sun Wukong, but they couldn't make out which Heavenly Dao was protecting him.

Yet, they had a feeling telling them that this Great Saint was very dangerous.

He wasn't fully awake yet, but the thing behind him was exceptionally dangerous.

"We'll have to observe."

Yuqing said: "Let's head back together and calculate."

Shangqing and Lord Lao Zi nodded, took one last look at Sun Wukong, and then turned to leave.

Once The Three Pure Ones departed, Tota Li Heavenly King's complexion turned suddenly pale.

He turned back towards the battlefield, resolving in his heart.

The Western Heavenly Gate, as far as the eye could see, was now engulfed in flames.

The immortals stared, dumbstruck, as Sun Wukong galloped through the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals. Unintentionally, his gaze swept over them.

That was just a casual glance, but it was as if they saw endless time and wisdom in those profound pupils.

Their bodies shook.

"We're doomed."

Returning to his senses, Immortal Zhenyuan heard the surrounding voices discussing.

"I think I was just zapped by the Great Saint's gaze!"

"Me too."

"Good heavens, it happened to me as well!"

The immortals were in a tumult.

And at that moment, shouts came from the battlefield.

"Rampant demon monkey, stop your insolence!"

Heavenly King Li roared: "The holy land of the Heavenly Palace, where would you dare to provoke again and again!"

He merged with the Linglong Treasure Tower, soaring into the skies with brilliant radiance, becoming larger than the mountains.

The immortals couldn't help but turn to look.

"Heavenly King Li is courting death again!"

"Yeah, he's going to do it again!"

"Why do you say 'again'?"

"I don't know."
