Fatty Wang didn't pay attention to Xiao Mu but picked up the CD directly. "How can I be sure you haven't made copies?" He had to be cautious; now he could no longer afford to estimate his old man.
"I can't guarantee that to you, to be honest. You should know this wasn't easy to get, and whether the person who gave it to me kept a copy, I can't guarantee either." Xiao Mu felt gratified to be speaking the rare truth. "This is the honest truth, but of course, you can choose not to believe it. Our transaction can end at any time."
Fatty Wang stared at Xiao Mu's face as if trying to see through him, his bloodshot eyes deep in thought. Sigh, there's really a big difference between someone who's killed before and someone who hasn't, Xiao Mu thought silently. In that CD, there was no evidence that Fatty Wang had killed anyone directly; he was more like a mastermind behind hiring an assassin, and regarding the Xia Family's series of events, he could technically be considered an accomplice, but if he had someone above him, it wouldn't be a death sentence.
Unable to weigh the risks, Fatty Wang didn't dare take chances. In this situation, what could he do besides the transaction? Seeing his hesitation, Xiao Mu patted his shoulder. "Hey, we've worked together for quite some time. I've helped you, haven't I? I've introduced you to killers, haven't I? We're like people on the same boat."
"You better know that if I get caught, you won't escape either." Fatty Wang glared at Xiao Mu.
"Put the staff on the table, I'll drive you to the harbor now. I have a private boat there, and once you're on international waters, I'll arrange for a cruise to Italy, or if you prefer a plane, that's fine too. Once we reach Italy, our transaction ends, and from then on, we'll be strangers, okay?"
Fatty Wang thought it over, nodded, put the staff on the table, revealing a blue diamond petal beneath the unfolded towel.
"Let's go!" After a glance at the petal, Xiao Mu urged Fatty Wang. "There's only an hour left until dawn, and if you wait any longer, you'll be stuck."
Outside, the sky had already started to pale; entering late spring, the days were evidently lengthening. Without hesitation, Fatty Wang picked up the CD and got into Xiao Mu's car. "Aren't you coming with me?" he asked, seeing Xiao Mu still outside the car.
"My driver will take you there; I've got meetings to handle during the day."
"Get in the car!" Fatty Wang suddenly pulled out his gun and aimed it at Xiao Mu. He wouldn't trust this man; just as he had never trusted him before. "Partners send each other off on the last leg, right?"
Looking at the ominous gun barrel, Xiao Mu raised an eyebrow. Despite lowering his gaze, Fatty Wang could still sense a chill emanating from him.
"Alright, I'll accompany Brother Wang on this last leg." No matter what, as these words spilled from Xiao Mu's mouth, Fatty Wang couldn't help but feel regret. Sitting in that jolting car felt like a never-ending journey.
He glanced at Xiao Mu; the woman in red next to him hadn't appeared for a long time, and at this moment, Xiao Mu simply stared silently out the window.
Fatty Wang several times wanted to speak, but the eerie silence held him back, closing his eyes, thinking about leaving Yanjing soon, it felt less entangled.
The air was thick with dampness, salty dampness. They were nearing the harbor, and Fatty Wang opened his eyes, feeling one step closer to hope, his inner excitement rippling across his chubby face. Even if the police got wind of it, by then he'd have been in international waters, making capture difficult, and once he crossed the border, it'd be like finding a needle in a haystack.
"Someone will give you your fake identity once you're on board, and as for the billion you want, I need to prepare that. In three days, you'll board a cruise to the United States from international waters and transfer from the United States to Italy; there aren't many cruises lately, so you'll have to take some trouble." Xiao Mu leaned against the car door, from the right side you could already see the river by the harbor; no border had been crossed yet, they'd need to sail a part out to reach inner waters, a long and uncomfortable journey.
"Can't I go directly?" Going from the United States was within the Xiao Family's sphere of influence.
"Of course, you can buy a ticket at the airport directly to Italy; that'd be faster." The entrance to the harbor was getting closer, Fatty Wang could vaguely see a white ship docked there, and the salty dampness of the air was intensifying.
Xiao Mu glanced behind at Fatty Wang, boarding his ship first; he didn't want to be threatened with the same gun a second time.
The boat rocked; Fatty Wang's size just enough to stabilize it. Xiao Mu's yacht wasn't large, designed with two layers, tidy yet luxuriously small, someone like Fatty Wang could naturally see the handcrafted marks on every tiny fitting. "This is a good boat," he said sincerely.
"Not at all, compared to yours it falls far short." Entering the cockpit, a man in a captain's uniform was already standing by the bed; seeing Xiao Mu, he gave a crisp salute. "This is my captain, freshly retired from the navy."
Fatty Wang glanced at this captain, saying nothing more, as the latter only slightly tugged at the corners of his mouth.
"Get this Mr. Wang to international waters; naturally a cruise will come to meet him." Xiao Mu snorted silently at Fatty Wang's rudeness, handing the pre-set coordinates to the captain before planning to disembark.
"Aren't you coming to international waters with me?" Fatty Wang blocked Xiao Mu's path, an action that thoroughly incited Xiao Mu's anger.
"Do you still intend to point the gun at my head? In that case, I can clearly tell you, you won't make it past this harbor." Seeing Xiao Mu truly angry, Fatty Wang found it suddenly difficult to stay tough.
"I'm not saying I don't believe Young Master Wang, but it's a crucial time now. How can I be sure you won't sell me out once you get the staff? Just like you said, no one can ensure that the tape hasn't been copied, right?" Fatty Wang's squinting face enlarged in front of Xiao Mu, looking like a clown, making him quite off-putting.
"Then what does Young Master Wang want me to do?"
"Naturally, I hope to chat freely with you on the ship, you shouldn't mind too much, right?"
Squinting his eyes slightly, Xiao Mu chuckled twice at Fatty Wang's pushiness. "Captain, we can set sail now!"
The captain, having received the order, set sail! Finally feeling the sense of leaving, Fatty Wang relaxed a lot. He began to examine the structure of the ship. The lower deck was for living and had a bathroom. On the deck, there were some survival tools, but nothing else worth observing.
Since the ship had set off, Xiao Mu leaned against the sofa, holding a finance book, with no interest in the scenery outside the window. After seeing him take several calls, Fatty Wang frowned tightly.
Xiao Mu, sensing Fatty Wang's gaze, turned to meet it, with a stern look in his eyes. Feeling a bit uneasy under his gaze, Fatty Wang turned and walked toward the deck.
The sun rose from the east; today should be a good day. The wind on his face felt grainy. Behind him, the dock's silhouette grew fainter, disappearing entirely before Fatty Wang went back into the cabin.
"How much longer do we have?" He sat on the sofa on the other end, with his arms opened on both sides.
"You're very bold." Xiao Mu's sudden words startled Fatty Wang.
"What do you mean?"
"Do you think I'm that easy to fool?" Xiao Mu's sudden fierce inquiry made Fatty Wang jump up from the sofa. At this moment, a sound came from the fax machine. "Don't understand? Why not read the fax content?"
Fatty Wang tore off the fax paper, with a certificate of authenticity printed on it. "What is this?"
"Can you not even read Chinese? Trying to bluff with this thing? Do you think I'm easy to deal with, easy to bully?" Xiao Mu sat across from Fatty Wang, his words drawn out, leaving no room for Fatty Wang to guess. He wanted to find a chance of victory in his tone, but evidently, the other party had no intention of giving him any chance to argue.
"Fatty Wang, do you know what happens when you piss me off?"
"Wait a minute, Young Master, this is indeed what I got from Wang Zhanting, how could it be fake?" Fatty Wang swallowed, trying to find evidence to convince the other party.
"Really?" Xiao Mu waved his hand indifferently. "Why don't I think so?"
Out of nowhere, Wang Zhanting's voice came in the quiet cabin.
"The staff is not with the Wang Family, it was switched out many years ago."
"This... this is..." Listening to Wang Zhanting's voice, Fatty Wang's heart pounded violently, a cold chill crawled up his back, chilling his very scalp. "How is this possible? How could this be possible?"
"I gave you a chance." Xiao Mu shook his head, clicking his tongue. "If you had told me earlier, perhaps I would have given you a way out, but you knew it was a fake, yet you repeatedly dared to threaten me, tell me, how should I deal with you?"
Saying this, Xiao Mu started moving closer to Fatty Wang from where he was. "No, don't come any closer." Fatty Wang yelled, retreating backward.
"Should I throw you into the sea to feed the fish, or hand you over to the police? Which do you think is more suitable for you?"
"Young Master, you must believe me, I really didn't know it was fake. When Wang Zhanting said those things, I thought he was lying. Think about it, if it's a fake, how could he hide it so well?" Fatty Wang's hand propped against the edge of the sofa, having no way out.
"Hmm, sounds a bit reasonable." Xiao Mu didn't press on tightly. Fatty Wang's expression didn't seem to be lying. "But, the staff you gave is indeed a fake, how do you explain that? You want to go to Italy, should I suspect you made a detour to lay it all on Wang Zhanting?" (To be continued.
