Chapter 469: Showdown

"You are very worried about Lian," Xia Xue softly asked, not wanting to face this question. However, at this moment, she desperately wanted to know Lian's place in Xiao Lin's heart. A woman's intuition made her afraid to confront this; the truth made her hesitate.

"I don't want to lose either of you, do you understand?" Xiao Lin looked at Xia Xue seriously, each word he spoke was unusually heavy. "You and Lian are both women I love, and I don't want to lose either of you at any time. I hope you can understand my guilt and urgency."

Xia Xue had never seen the vulnerable side of Xiao Lin and didn't know how to digest his words. From a woman's point of view, should she share this love with another woman?

Xiao Lin's decisiveness showed her the hopelessness of exclusivity. She suddenly wanted to tell Xiao Lin not to look for Lian; she didn't want to share this man with another woman. However, she couldn't voice it, because his face was filled with grief, pained by his feelings for Lian.

Xiao Lin was a bit afraid to see Xia Xue's tears, which were welling up in her eyes. He knew Xia Xue was suffering, but it was something that had to be faced sooner or later. Lian's disappearance only accelerated the issue.

Gently closing the door, Xiao Lin went down to the basement where Chu Fangxiu was still chattering incessantly, making Hua Qingyi irritable. Threats and intimidation seemed not enough to shut this timid man up.

Xiao Lin disliked using violence, but he took action, striking the board next to Chu Fangxiu with a punch, breaking it in two. It successfully interrupted his wailing and pleading.

"Stop putting on an act in front of me, Chu Fangxiu." Xiao Lin dragged a chair over and sat in front of him, with a murderous look in his eyes. "You must understand, the fake documents for the 'inone' launch product test have been exposed. Do you think Fatty Wang will spare you?" Chu Fangxiu looked up at the young man before him. "You think I'm useless and can protect you temporarily but not forever, understand?"

"I've taken his money, which is already enough for me to die many times over." Chu Fangxiu lowered his eyes, clearly aware of the consequences of bribery, and Fatty Wang's amount wasn't something a life sentence could bypass. Dead or alive, he now only thought about giving his family a better life.

"You don't naively think Fatty Wang will spare your family, do you?" Xiao Lin seemed to see through his thoughts as he handed a lit cigarette to Chu Fangxiu. "You either cooperate with me now, or I'll let you go back and fend for yourself."

"How should I cooperate?"

"Tell me everything that happened!" Chu Fangxiu hesitated for a moment and finally, after finishing smoking a cigarette, confessed everything.

"Everything has been recorded." Hua Qingyi turned off the recorder.

"Shaoqing, stay here and watch him. Qingyi, come with me to stretch our muscles; we have guests arriving." Xiao Lin dashed out of the basement, distinguishing what was the wind and what was the sound of clothes cutting through it under the silent night sky.

Pursuing the subtle differences, Xiao Lin aimed to scour the back of the farm, while Hua Qingyi moved in another direction. After exchanging glances and confirming the number of people, they sought out their opponents separately.

The guards around the farm, upon noticing the intruders ready to take action, returned to their posts after seeing two shadows pass by, keeping an eye on the internal movements of the farm. With those two around, they didn't need to worry.

Elder Guo sat in the car, the cigarette in his hand flickering on and off. He had sent those brought in from Southeast Asia to the death line, knowing there was no chance of survival, yet he didn't blink.

"You go back first!"

The driver in the front seat hesitated for a moment; Elder Guo had already left the car and entered the farm.

Miao Shaoqing, who was guarding the basement, was the first to sense the killing intent. He sprang up from in front of Chu Fangxiu, warily searching for the source of the murderous aura. "Find a place to hide yourself."

Miao Shaoqing tiptoed to the hallway entrance, while Chu Fangxiu, after searching for a while, crawled behind a cabinet next to the boxing ring, an obscure corner. From the hallway entrance, this corner couldn't be clearly seen. After confirming his position, Miao Shaoqing started to move upwards.

The killing intent was intense, unlike any opponent he had encountered before, and without his usual weapon, he cautiously ascended step by step, trying his best not to make any sound.

As soon as Elder Guo entered the thick atmosphere, he sensed the different auras emanating from above and below. The layout of the farmhouse was easy to distinguish; upstairs were the residents, and the basement was likely a storage space. Elder Guo hesitated at the junction of upstairs and downstairs, moving his feet.

Xiao Lang made a silencing gesture to Xia Xue. From the moment Elder Guo entered, he felt the oppressive presence. He quietly moved into Xia Xue's room, telling her to dress and stay by the door. If anyone came up, she should find Xiao Lin while he held them off.

Xia Xue was so nervous she barely dared to breathe, covering her mouth with her hand. It was her first time being so close to an assassin without Xiao Lin by her side, and fear followed closely.

The wooden stairs creaked, a sound that Xia Xue naturally could not hear clearly, but for someone like Xiao Lang, who had undergone professional training, his ears were exceedingly sensitive. He pushed Xia Xue into the room and followed her in, closing the door.

The footsteps drew nearer, the clicking of heels on the floor sounded like they were pounding on Xia Xue's heart. She wanted to scream but was silenced by Xiao Lang's hand, hiding behind the door, holding her breath.

The footsteps stopped, and Elder Guo placed his hand on the handle. There were two different scents here, one strong and the other weak. Was it here? He drew out a pistol fitted with a silencer from his coat pocket and slowly twisted the knob.

"Who's there?" Miao Shaoqing appeared at the landing. Having found no intruder downstairs, he moved up to the second floor. Xiao Lang was no longer in the guarding spot; he was in the shadows, seeing a dark figure standing before Xia Xue, the murderous aura emanating from this person.

Without asking a second time, he rushed forward, targeting the gun in the man's hand.

What a character Elder Guo was. Anticipating this move, he let go of the gun with his right hand, caught it with his left, and fired a bullet at the approaching Miao Shaoqing.

"Not good!" Xiao Lang heard the sound of the bullet leaving the chamber. After pushing Xia Xue into the closet, he opened the door and aimed a kick at Elder Guo's shoulder. The outside impact threw off his aim, and the bullet hit the window frame.

Seeing there was another person, Elder Guo retreated a step. Xiao Lang was not suited for direct face-to-face combat, so he found a place to hide. The sudden appearance and disappearance of this person made Elder Guo frown. This type of tactic was rare, making him need to be more cautious.

Miao Shaoqing took advantage of his hesitation, rolling to the front and sweeping a kick at Elder Guo's lower body. The latter vaulted, with the breaking wind sound from his back, attacking him from above and below, left with no retreat. In distress, he grabbed the veranda, leaping sideways into Xia Xue's room.

Xiao Lang grimaced, knowing Miao Shaoqing understood this was the worst place. He quickly rolled and followed into Xia Xue's room.

Elder Guo glanced around; indeed, two people's scents came from the room. Presumably, there was someone else inside. Xia Xue hid in the closet, wrapped in clothes, trying her best not to tremble, yet it was useless. She felt her teeth chattering uncontrollably, and her heart about to jump out of her throat.

Elder Guo yanked the closet open, and a piercing scream erupted. Xiao Lin, having taken down the last assassin, heard Xia Xue's scream. He almost crushed the opponent's skull in rage. Throwing aside the dead body, he quickly approached the farmhouse. The guards had already rushed in, and Xiao Lang and Miao Shaoqing were not downstairs. With a leap, he crossed the guards, entered the second floor, seeing Miao Shaoqing retreating step by step, while Xiao Lang was nowhere in sight. Seeing this, he pushed past the stairs, flipping outside the window, climbing onto the roof, then leaping into the corridor's end.

Xia Xue was led out at gunpoint, step by step from her room. Xiao Lin hid in the shadows, holding his breath.

Miao Shaoqing didn't see Xiao Lin, nor did Xia Xue, but Elder Guo sensed a more formidable presence nearby. The pressure was almost overwhelming him, eating away at his mind. This was a presence necessary on the battlefield, a presence Elder Guo considered himself proficient in, yet under this pressure, he couldn't find his bearings.

Did Fatty Wang keep this person's existence from him, treating him like a fool? Such a figure never appeared in any report, yet this oppressive feeling, he'd only felt once, Zheng Teng's death day. That man silently stood in the corner, saying nothing, and now experiencing this pressure again, even stronger this time—who was this person beside Xiao Lin? Was it their oversight?

Holding the gun, without hesitation, feeling this pressure, he unlocked the safety, prepared to take the woman's life at any moment. He also realized something ridiculously funny—Poison Dragon had captured the wrong person.

"Put the gun down!" A voice from hell sounded behind Elder Guo. He turned with Xia Xue at gunpoint, seeing nothing in the darkness.

"Put the gun down!" The voice came again from behind him. This time, Elder Guo neither turned nor looked back. Instead, he pressed the gun against Xia Xue's head, the cold barrel pressed into her temple, her soft skin denting under his force.

"You deserve to die!" (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
