The Ultimate Versatile Soldier King

Chapter 528: People Looking up Horses Overturned

Luo Chao couldn't leave, as his employer refused to; thus, he had to stay alert, ready to adapt to any situation.

Before long, the crowd in the venue settled in their seats, and the host began the event. The first competitor was a Schnauzer. Jiang Yuanyuan wasn't particularly fond of this breed, merely glancing around at other dogs that might catch her interest.

Luo Chao gave it a fleeting glance before resuming his surveillance of the surroundings for suspicious individuals.

In a split second, the first dog was off the stage, replaced by a Border Collie. With its impressive size and coat, Jiang Yuanyuan obviously favored this breed, fixating her gaze firmly on it.

The Collie should have completed a lap led by its owner, but instead, it abruptly sprinted towards Jiang Yuanyuan when it reached her diagonal position. The owner, seemingly chasing the dog, dashed towards Jiang Yuanyuan as well, followed by several personnel who appeared to be security.

Jiang Yuanyuan was astonished to see the Collie charging at her, completely oblivious to the pursuing individuals. Luo Chao quickly grabbed Jiang Yuanyuan and said, "We need to go now!"

Jiang Yuanyuan, confused, was forcefully pulled up by Luo Chao, feeling a sharp pain in her arm. She stood firm and exclaimed, "Luo Chao, what's wrong with you? It's just a dog, the staff will deal with it soon. Why are you pulling me?"

Ignoring her complaints, Luo Chao noticed the dog's owner drawing a gun and firing towards Jiang Yuanyuan, with a thunderous "bang!" Not having time to turn around, Jiang Yuanyuan found herself cradled in Luo Chao's arms as he lunged forward, both of them hitting the ground hard. Protected in his embrace, Jiang Yuanyuan's head vibrated but her body felt less pain.

She had heard the gunshot, though.

"What's going on? Was that a gun?!" Jiang Yuanyuan panicked, clutching Luo Chao's arm.

Pushing her aside, Luo Chao quickly instructed, "Do as I say. Don't stand up. Run bent over, head towards the crowd, and don't look back. Understand?!"

Seeing Luo Chao's serious face for the first time, Jiang Yuanyuan instinctively nodded. She climbed up from the floor and sprinted towards the crowd, keeping low.

As the gunfire erupted, the venue plunged into chaos with screams from people and frantically barking dogs, turning the entire place into mayhem.

Luo Chao rolled forward, rising swiftly to assess the situation. To his dismay, several pursuers were already closing in, seemingly focused on more than Jiang Yuanyuan as security had pinned other individuals with black cloths over their heads, even shooting at their legs when they resisted.

Screams echoed throughout the venue, yet more people chased after Jiang Yuanyuan; their primary target was clearly her.

Realizing this, Luo Chao charged towards the pursuers. The closest shooter spotted Luo Chao and aimed his gun directly at him.

Reacting instantly, Luo Chao altered his pace, narrowly dodging the bullet that whistled past his ear, leaving residual heat.

The shooter attempted a follow-up shot, but Luo Chao firmly grasped the man's wrist, eliciting a crack before seizing the gun.

A rapid burst of shots created fresh gaps in the legs of several trailing individuals, buying Luo Chao time. Opting not to linger, he immediately turned and sped off, pinpointing Jiang Yuanyuan's location. Navigating the venue chairs with agility, he reached her side.

Luo Chao grabbed Jiang Yuanyuan's arm, startling her into a scream. Upon seeing Luo Chao, she relaxed and said, "Are you alright?!"

He shook his head, pulling her along, hunched, with the stream of fleeing people, his eyes scanning the area. He saw the venue doors about to close, telling Jiang Yuanyuan, "This isn't good, hurry!"

With those words, he guided her through the crowd. Jiang Yuanyuan stumbled after him as he let go, stood, and fired at the security guard trying to close the door, hitting his thigh.

The guard's pained cries were muffled by the frightened crowd as he crouched clutching his leg.

Luo Chao blended back into the crowd, pulling Jiang Yuanyuan toward the exit. As they reached it, more backup personnel rushed in from outside to intercept them. Luo Chao instructed, "Run to the car, start it, wait fifteen seconds. If I don't get there by then, drive to the police station!"

Despite her panic, Luo Chao's calm demeanor steadied Jiang Yuanyuan a little, nodding as she dashed towards where she parked earlier.

Luo Chao spotted the closing pursuers, counting mentally before shooting the second-closest one in the leg, then leap-kicking the nearest one.

After finishing them off, he sprinted towards Jiang Yuanyuan, realizing his priority wasn't handling these men but ensuring her safety.

Reaching her car, Jiang Yuanyuan dropped the keys due to trembling hands triggered by gunfire. As she bent to pick them up, a shadow loomed over her, revealing a security-clad man leering down. She screamed, ready to call for Luo Chao, but he'd already vaulted over, kicking the guard in the chest, knocking him out.

Just as Luo Chao landed on his feet, bullets hit Jiang Yuanyuan's Cadillac with a "ping" sound, causing her to scream.

Grabbing the keys, Luo Chao shoved Jiang Yuanyuan into the back, climbed into the driver's seat and started the car.

As Jiang Yuanyuan attempted to sit up, Luo Chao sternly warned, "Stay down, lie on the seat. Your car's windows aren't bulletproof; don't get hit by stray fire!"

Between fear and distress, Jiang Yuanyuan obeyed Luo Chao, crouching over the seat while he started the vehicle. Several security guards closed in, and as Luo Chao prepared to accelerate, a girl suddenly appeared, clinging to the passenger door, pleading for help and shouting for rescue.
