Mysterious Assistant of the Washed-Up Queen

Chapter 267: Don’t Ask Don’t Think Just Follow My Lead

In the afternoon, Chu Tian brought some sound engineers over to start the official recording.

After lunch, the recording studio buzzed with activity: equipment was being tuned, and everyone was getting into the zone.

Yang Lin and Chen Feng were busy going through the lyrics and their coordination one last time.

"Hmm? You're all here?"

"Are we starting the official recording now?"

At some point, Wu Ya and Sun Jian also arrived at the recording studio.

They were startled to see Chu Tian there. When they saw a few sound engineers seated at the mixing console, they guessed what was happening.

"What are you two doing here? Weren't you supposed to be in training classes?"

Today was a training class day. Yang Lin and the others were exempted because they had to record songs, thanks to Chu Tian asking for leave on their behalf.

However, Wu Ya and Sun Jian didn't have this exemption. After all, missing the company's scheduled training session meant a deduction in their performance scores.

"President Chu, we don't have class now; it starts at three o'clock. We thought we'd come over and practice the new song in our free time."

Chu Tian hadn't realized this. He had been too busy with the recording to notice the time.

He casually glanced at his phone. No new messages; Qingqiu is probably still busy.

He also checked the time. It's only half past one; I must have misunderstood.

"I didn't expect you to be so eager. However, I'm afraid you can't use this studio right now; they need to record songs today. Why don't you use President Xu's studio for a bit?"

President Xu naturally referred to Xu Qingqiu. Her studio? We wouldn't dare! They quickly waved their hands in refusal.

"No need, no need. We can wait a bit. It's okay if we watch here, right? We can also learn from the experience."

Hearing Wu Ya talk about learning from the experience, Sun Jian, who was following behind, opened his mouth. His face flushed slightly, but he ultimately didn't say anything.

He just mumbled under his breath, clearly holding back a torrent of complaints.

Indeed, among those present, if Chu Tian wasn't counted, then Wu Ya certainly had the most recording experience. For an experienced singer like him to say he needs to learn... that's really something! If he needs to learn, then what about us newcomers? Wouldn't we need to learn even more?

Sun Jian's complaint wasn't about this, however. What he was inwardly grumbling about was how this old Wu, despite his earnest appearance, had learned to talk so formally, like an official, in front of President Chu.

Listen to how smooth that sounded, just like a seasoned official. It was almost too pleasing to the ears!

It's like he's saying, 'Look at me, an old fellow still so eager to learn—definitely a good artist.'

In comparison, what does that make the rest of us?

With a calm expression, Wu Ya watched Yang Lin and Chen Feng preparing inside the recording studio, completely unaware of Sun Jian's resentful gaze from behind him.

I'm not stupid. Even though I'm an old singer, my popularity has long faded. Without any buzz or value, understanding some social niceties is essential to stay in the game.

Besides, do they think my years in the industry were for nothing? Chu Tian might be younger, but he's a leader.

Plus, he's our boss's boyfriend and might very well become the actual boss in the future. If I don't make a good impression now, when will I ever get a chance to shine?

I've seen Chu Tian's capabilities.

The studio holds Youmeng, a trump card, and Chu Tian has that inexplicable ability to make people famous. It makes sense for me to act this way.

These matters, after all, were something young Sun Jian still couldn't grasp. He was still at an age where he thought a single hit song could make him famous overnight and allow him to do whatever he pleased.

Little did he know that, ultimately, the world values real strength. And what is real strength? Isn't it the resources the company provides? Or, more accurately, isn't it up to those in charge, the bosses?

Chu Tian had no idea there was a sly old fox playing his games right in front of him. Even if he knew, he wouldn't care.

Whether you're full of passion or worldly-wise, just sing well, be a good person, and be a good artist. That's better than anything.

As long as they don't cause trouble or betray the company, they can think whatever they want about other things.

After chatting about a few more trivial topics, once Yang Lin and Chen Feng were ready, Chu Tian paid no more attention to Wu Ya and Sun Jian and started the official recording.

They had been familiarizing themselves with everything for a few days, and Yang Lin had been practicing here constantly. As a result, they were quite familiar with both the equipment and the studio, which naturally helped them feel much more relaxed.

They had practiced again in the morning and received Chu Tian's approval, so by the time of the afternoon recording session, Yang Lin and Chen Feng were fairly relaxed.

Although they had several takes that weren't quite right, they were actually very close.

By a little past eight in the evening, the recording was more or less complete.

Wu Ya and Sun Jian had left at some point and didn't come back.

Chu Tian called Yang Lin and Chen Feng over, then asked the sound engineer to play the recorded content.

"Hmm, this take is much better. Can you hear it? Although there are still some issues, the emotion is right, the rhythm is right, and your breathing is much better than before."

"The only flaw is that the pitch is off in a few places, but it's acceptable. With some editing, combining parts from previous takes, we can piece together a complete song."

"Let's stop here for today. You two go back and rest. Come over early tomorrow; I'll take you out for a bit."

Yang Lin was puzzled. "Ah? Out? To do what?"

Seeing Yang Lin's puzzled expression, Chu Tian smiled mysteriously but didn't answer.

"You'll find out when the time comes. Alright, hurry back and rest."

After waving Yang Lin and Chen Feng off, Chu Tian turned to the two sound engineers and said:

"Sorry to make you work late tonight. Please compile this song and produce the master tape as soon as possible. We'll need it tomorrow."

The two sound engineers, although not full-time employees, had collaborated with the studio many times before and were familiar with Chu Tian.

So, they weren't overly formal with each other. They were also aware that the studio would definitely compensate them well. Though it was overtime, the pay was generous.

Who wouldn't jump at such a good opportunity?

"Hey, Brother Chu, you're being too distant saying that! Don't worry, we'll definitely get it done perfectly for you tonight!"

Even though they guaranteed the work would be done, Chu Tian didn't just leave. It wasn't that he had suddenly developed a work conscience.

Rather, since they were working overtime, it wouldn't have seemed right for him to leave, so he felt he had to stay and keep them company.

The entire song was produced that night, and Chu Tian returned home just past one in the morning.

「The next morning.」

He immediately got in touch with the marketing department, instructing them to liaise with music platforms to get the new song, "The Most Dazzling Ethnic Style," released online across all networks.

He also had them set up and verify an account for Yang Lin and Chen Feng on a short-video platform.

After completing all these tasks, Chu Tian looked at Yang Lin and Chen Feng, who had been waiting for a while, waved them over, and said:

"You two, follow me. We're going out."

"Out? Where are we going?" Yang Lin asked.

"You'll see when we get there. Later, just do as I say, no questions asked. Follow my instructions, understand?"

Yang Lin, carrying her bag, her high heels CLICKETY-CLACKING on the floor, followed behind Chu Tian. Seeing his stern expression, her heart sank.

He had me dress up this morning, and now these instructions... Don't tell me he's planning to sell me off?

Why can't I ask questions? Why must I just follow orders? What are we going to do? Am I supposed to accompany someone for drinks?

Isn't that how those kinds of rumors always go?

But something feels off. I admit I'm somewhat attractive, but am I really *that* outstanding?

Am I about to be subjected to the 'unspoken rules'? Should I even go?
