Apocalypse: Last Traveler

Chapter 198: Sparring

Lu Xi'an wasn't sure when he and Yao Wei fell asleep, but they cuddled intimately for a long time.

Given their physical condition, no matter how long it took, they wouldn't feel tired. The rapidness of their breath was merely due to emotional and hormonal shifts, unrelated to anything else.

This monotonous and repetitive action, for some reason, was so addictive that it seemed as if they wouldn't tire of it all night.

He felt this way, and so did Yao Wei.

But the next day when he woke up and reminisced about the night before, he couldn't help but lean over to kiss Yao Wei. However, Yao Wei slightly tilted her head back, avoiding him.

"Last night is already over."

As Yao Wei spoke, her eyelashes and eyes trembled slightly, which showed that her emotions hadn't calmed down. Yet, her resistance against losing control made her retreat involuntarily.

"Just once."

Lu Xi'an gazed intently into Yao Wei's eyes as he spoke. At that moment, Yao Wei's pupils seemed to be shimmering, so captivating that they could make one lost.

Yao Wei hesitated for a while and said, "Just a light touch."

Lu Xi'an smiled and said, "Then you touch me, the initiative is yours."

"Alright."

Yao Wei nodded, then gently pressed her slightly warm lips against his, only to lightly touch and then pull away.

But after pulling away, she suddenly furrowed her brows.

Lu Xi'an saw her tightly knit brows, her eyes looking nowhere, as if confused. Just as he was about to ask what she was thinking, she unexpectedly moved closer again, brushing her lips against his.

After separating once more, she continued frowning in deep thought.

"What's wrong?"

Lu Xi'an asked.

"It feels... different now..."

Yao Wei expressed her confusion, "Why did it previously feel like my heart was racing uncontrollably from just one touch, and now it feels like nothing?"

Lu Xi'an didn't expect Yao Wei to be pondering this question. He thought for a moment and replied, "Perhaps... maybe it's desensitization. We went deeper last night, so the sensation of a single touch isn't as intense as it used to be."

"Hmm."

Yao Wei nodded and continued pondering, as if considering whether Lu Xi'an's answer made sense.

After a while, she realized mere thinking couldn't solve it, so she said, "I'll try again." Then leaned in with her lips.

Lu Xi'an had no choice but to cooperate.

Yao Wei seemed to have turned into an explorer, a researcher, this time wanting to study the difference between deep and shallow more thoroughly, so Lu Xi'an had to cooperate by opening his mouth, allowing Yao Wei's venture.

But Yao Wei only ventured in briefly before retreating swiftly, as if she had been shocked.

Lu Xi'an saw her face looking a bit flustered and asked, "What's wrong?"

Yao Wei replied, "This still makes me feel out of control. In the future, just one touch."

Lu Xi'an hadn't anticipated such a delightful surprise from Yao Wei's research and nodded immediately, saying, "Okay, just one touch."

He couldn't help but wonder if taking it a step further, beyond just one touch, would also lead to desensitization?

However, it was evident that Yao Wei didn't wish to take it further, always keeping that slender hand in place.

This woman is really cautious...

Lu Xi'an thought that if he had known, he wouldn't have shown Yao Wei Luo Ping's comic. Without Luo Ping's comic, perhaps Yao Wei wouldn't be so vigilant and resistant.

But ultimately, he had to respect Yao Wei's choices, so he lightly touched Yao Wei once more, then got up and said, "Alright, let's get up."

"Hmm."

Yao Wei sat up, glancing at the spot Lu Xi'an had always been kept at bay, then quickly averted her gaze.

Lu Xi'an left the corridor for a while before returning.

Upon returning, he saw Yao Wei already practicing her martial arts outside, so he went over to join her.

As they practiced, Yao Wei suddenly suggested, "Shall we spar? It seems like that would be more beneficial."

"Sure."

Lu Xi'an had the same idea.

Punching and kicking into thin air could yield some benefits, but nothing matched sparring with a partner, where every move had a target to help better judge the power, technique, and angle of one's moves.

The two of them happened to both be Type A Neo-Humans, and had undergone the strengthening baptism of the Fungus Stone, making them equally matched for sparring.

So they faced each other, displaying their martial skills, and began to spar.

Their fighting wasn't flashy; they simply maximized the use of their punches and kicks, letting strength, speed, and reflexes flourish.

With their physical quality at such a level, everything else mattered little. How to unleash their strength and speed, and to maximize the role of reflexes in evading all attacks from their opponent, was of utmost importance.

As they practiced punch by punch, kick by kick, their vigor became apparent, and soon the others awoke and came out from the western door to watch.

The two were so engrossed that they didn't notice these people.

Or rather, even if they did notice them, they didn't care as long as they confirmed these people were not enemies and posed no threat, continuing to spar amongst themselves.

In the eyes of Shu, Tang Er, and Liu Hua, they had completely turned into afterimages. The three felt like they couldn't see anything, only shadows seemingly moving, the wind howling, so fierce, their eyes widened in amazement as if watching celestial beings.

But Chai Xin and Luo Ping, the Neo-Humans, could see a bit more, though still only a bit. Not being Type A Neo-Humans, their visual nervous systems were not as terrifying as Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei's, making it difficult to fully capture every move of the two.

"Awesome... awesome... really amazing!"

Luo Ping expressed his feelings with the only two words of praise he knew, enviously adding, "It's still the Type A Neo-Humans that are amazing. I wish I were a Type A Neo-Human."

"Yeah... really good..."

Chai Xin had the same thought, nodding in agreement.

Shu heard what Luo Ping and Chai Xin said, clicked his tongue, glanced at the two with a somewhat grievance-laden look, as if to say, you guys are like the well-fed who don't know the hunger of the starved, saying, 'I wish I were a Type A Neo-Human.' I'm not even any kind of Neo-Human. I wish I were any Neo-Human at all!

Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei trained until they had their fill, coming to a stop simultaneously.

All they felt now was their whole body stretching out, extraordinarily refreshed.

"Training like this in the future is a must, feels so good!"

Lu Xi'an shook his arms and legs, smiling as he spoke.

The intense sparring left him slightly breathless—this time truly from exhaustion, not like the excitement of last night—and his arms and legs ached a bit, but it was no big deal, it would ease up soon enough.

Compared to this minor side effect, the gains from this thrilling battle were far greater.

He felt all the power he had been enhancing through the Fungus Stone had been digested in this fight, along with significant improvements in controlling his body and gaining experience in facing evenly matched opponents.

If he continued training like this, the combat power this Type A Neo-Human could exhibit would undoubtedly far exceed what it is now.

Presumably, Yao Wei felt the same.

At this moment, Lu Xi'an finally no longer envied the amplification of Type C Neo-Humans. It was better being two Type A Neo-Humans, who could cooperate and train with each other, enhancing themselves, unlike Chang, whose amplification by Type C Neo-Humans came with significant side effects and weaknesses.

"Mm."

Yao Wei nodded, agreeing with Lu Xi'an's observation.

Luo Ping applauded as he approached, repeating several times how impressive it was, and expressing that he'd never seen such a performance of two Type A Neo-Humans battling anywhere else.

Lu Xi'an remarked, "Well, you can't watch for free. We have to charge for the performance."

Upon hearing this, Yao Wei immediately nodded, thinking Lu Xi'an made a valid point.

Shu added, "That's right. Back in my village, we had to spend money to invite performers for an opera."

As he said this, he unexpectedly fell into reminiscence, his face dreamy, sighing, "Thinking back, it was really nice. Every year, we'd donate some money to the village and invite an opera troupe to perform.

"We'd set up chairs below the stage and listen to the clanging sounds; it was so lively! Alas, we can't hear it anymore now."

Chai Xin blinked curiously, asking, "What opera? What was opera like? How did it clang?"

"How was it... let me think..."

Looking up at the sky, Shu fell into contemplation, hummed a couple of lines, felt it wasn't right, and then he thought, hummed more, tried to remember the tune.

Lu Xi'an and the others left him to it, going about their morning routines, preparing breakfast,

This whole journey, Chai Xin and Shu had been frugal, sparingly eating, and if they found other food on the way, they'd eat that, hence there were some corn left.

When Chang and Yang Guan, the two Neo-Humans, arrived, they didn't eat corn, they just consumed a lot of Luo Ping's other food, which made Luo Ping feel distressed.

So, for this breakfast, there was corn to eat.

Luo Ping also had a pot, so he set up a fire in the courtyard, put the pot on, and threw in the corn, saying that breakfast would be a boiled corn feast.

However, average people couldn't eat the corn, so Luo Ping took out two pieces of bread, handing them to Tang Er and Liu Hua, saying, "This corn is poisonous to ordinary people, so you can't eat it. You'll have to make do with this."

Tang Er and Liu Hua hurriedly said, "It's no bother! It's no bother! This is good too!"

As the fragrance wafted out, Chai Xin, Tang Er, and Liu Hua couldn't help but swallow their saliva. Needlessly to say for Tang Er and Liu Hua, even Chai Xin had not had boiled food in a long time and found it a bit tempting.

Shu couldn't help but glance at the pot either, but the old man was still reminiscing about the opera he heard long ago, quickly withdrawing his gaze and continuing to hum as he recollected.

After the food was ready, Chai Xin took an ear of boiled corn to Shu, and Shu said, "You eat first. I'll think a bit more... just a bit more..."

The others didn't bother him and each took an ear to eat. However, Liu Hua and Tang Er could only munch on the already stale bread.

As they ate, Shu suddenly slapped his forehead, saying, "Yes! That's it! That's the tune!"

With eyes wide, body straightened, arm raised, and finger pointed, the roots on his head shook a bit as he sang, "Imperial Brother, don't go wild in the palace corner, you harmed my father, who am I?"

His singing was rhythmic and forceful, genuinely carrying a particular flavor.

Everyone listened with wide eyes, feeling they had never heard such a thing before, quite intrigued by it, except Lu Xi'an who wasn't surprised.

"Bravo!"

Lu Xi'an shouted bravo.

Everyone else followed suit, clapping and calling, "Bravo!"
