The Martial Mage

Chapter 144: So this is what mana feels like (1)

"But why sister? You'll be far stronger then now. Your support spells will get even stronger with dragon mana." Shane couldn't understand why his sister was rejecting such a great opportunity.

Ruby smiled at him as she replied. "I am a healer, Shane. Though I've left the temple, I still pray to Goddess Irene. I am her daughter. She made me a human. How could I change myself and disregard her will. I think the dragon blood is diluted in us for a reason. I am what I am, and I wish to serve her being a human."

"But sister, how…" Before Shane could protest, Luke's hand fell on his shoulders.

"She has her belief and conviction Shane. Don't demean it. This is her choice."

Shane tried speak many a times, but the words refused to come out. He sighed and nodded at Luke.

"I understand sister."

"But you have to be careful. I'll ask senior to end it the moment I feel you're in danger. Understood?" Ruby said sternly.

"Alright! Alright."

Stormbreaker smiled seeing the brother sister pair. He then waved his hand as a runic circle appeared on the floor.

"Sit in lotus position in the center of the circle child." Stormbreaker said.

Shane nodded and started moving when Luke stopped him.

"Take the potion first."

"Ah…ya!" Shane scratched his head embarrassedly. He took the potion from Luke and moved inside the runic circle.

"Drink the potion and focus. Try to direct the energy of the potion towards your heart." Stormbreaker instructed after Shane sat in a lotus position.

Shane nodded. He opened the vial cap and gulped the whole potion down his throat. He immediately closed his eyes and started focusing.

"What is that runic circle senior?" Luke asked curiously. He had activated his eyes of revelation, aiming to memorize the whole procedure. So that, if in the future his sisters or friend needs to go through this awakening, he could overlook it when the senior is not present.

"That's the circle of domain. It's an eighth circle magic. Within the range of the circle, I have everything under my control. I can direct his awakening and even stop it and pull him out when needed." Stormbreaker.

"That's the domain release, acquired upon reaching the realm of eighth circle mage or wizard." Noah exclaimed.

"You're right. But It's not complete domain release. I have just released it partially." Stormbreaker said.

"What realm are you then senior?" Ruby asked curious.

"I'm a ninth circle wizard, an Archmeister."

All three of them went speechless. There was not a single ninth circle wizard or mage in the continent. No one had reached that stage probably in centuries. Stormbreaker could wipe out a whole kingdom with the wave of his hand. But here he was, standing in front of them with a casual smile on his face

Just then groaning noises starting coming from where Shane was. All four of them turned their heads immediately.

Shane's body was burning hot like a metal in a furnace. His eyes were closed and face contorted in pain. small cracks could be seen appearing on his skin.

"Senior! W-What is happening? Why is his body burning like this?" Ruby was agitated. Fear had gripped her senses when she saw Shane like that.

"Don't worry. This is normal. The potion is changing his constitution to harbor the dragon mana and create channels. He has to endure this pain somehow." Stormbreaker assured her.

Worry and anxiety had gripped her. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead. She unconsciously grabbed Noah's arm tightly, who was standing beside her.

Noah was surprised at his arm suddenly being grabbed. He turned to the side and saw Ruby's face. Her eyes were fixed on Shane, she was biting her lips, her face pale with anxiety. He could feel her tension and the state she was in right now. He patted her hand holding his arm, trying to console her.

Ruby was so engrossed in watching Shane, worrying over his safety that she didn't even feel Noah's hand and that she herself had grabbed his arm.

"ARRRGGHHHHHH!!!" Shane screamed out in pain. he felt like his body was being torn apart and restructured again. Every cell of his body was transforming. He felt a million ants crawling under his skin as the mana channels were being formed.

Ruby grabbed Noah's arm even tighter. She looked towards Stormbreaker, when he nodded to assure her that everything was under control.

"Since he doesn't even have the mana and the channels, the procedure will be far more painful for him. He has to endure it himself. There's no other way." Stormbreaker said in a serious tone.

"You can do it Shane! Don't give up! Endure this!" Luke yelled. Trying to strengthen Shane's resolve.

Noah kept his silence. Hoping not to disturb Ruby's state of mind. This tough body after the awakening didn't even flinch from Ruby's tight grip. He thought many a times to move her hand away, but for some reason, he didn't dislike it and hoped that she keeps holding him, if that eases her mind.

Shane's screams had subsided now. the cracks in his skin extended throughout the body. Finally, his skin cracked open and scrapped off. They burned into ashes, revealing the new skin. His hair started changing color. The brown hair now turned dark blue. Even his iris turned the same color as his hair,

ROARR!!

A translucent spiritual form of dragon head emerged out of Shane's body, roaring at the skies. Bluish strands of smoke like mana seeped out of his body. His clothes had almost charred black with some pieces covering his private regions.

Shane's heart started glowing as a runic circle appeared from his heart, increasing in radius, almost covering the runic circle below on the floor. The mana in the air moved towards it and assimilated, as it glowed and then started shrinking until it vanished inside his heart.

Just then Shane lost consciousness and his body fell on the floor.

"SHANE!" Ruby released the grip from Noah's hand and rushed towards her brother.
