Cultivating Through The Game

Chapter 258: Desert World_2

Everyone unleashed their Spiritual Power, connecting with each other, forming a powerful defensive military formation centered around Chu Tianhe. As long as the total damage from the attack could not exceed what they could endure, this formation would remain unbroken.

Chu Tianhe led the guards, who formed a quadrilateral defense formation, into the deep pit.

Lu Yu waited for a while but did not see Chu Tianhe come up. After hesitating for a moment, he stepped out of the shadows and dashed into the pit at high speed; the surrounding guards did not react at all.

They only felt a swoosh as something passed by but couldn't discern whether it was a person or something else.

Lu Yu jumped into the pit and immediately sensed an extremely dense Spiritual Qi, so abundant it was almost liquefied, forming a lake of liquid Spiritual Qi.

Upon sensing this dense, liquefied Spiritual Qi and before he could absorb it, Lu Yu felt himself entering a dry world, where the dense Spiritual Qi vanished entirely.

Bang~ Lu Yu landed, crashing into a sand dune. As he surveyed his surroundings, he found himself amidst endless yellow sands, seemingly a desert with no end in sight.

Looking up, there was a pitch-black sky, but although the sky was dark, the desert world was brightly lit.

There was no sun, and it was unclear where the light was coming from.

Yet, the fact that beneath the City Lord's residence lay a desert world did not surprise Lu Yu. If a desert world had appeared, the presence of light without the sun seemed perfectly normal.

After just a short while in the desert world, Lu Yu felt extremely thirsty and drenched in sweat.

"What's going on?" Lu Yu couldn't figure it out. With his current power, even a bath in magma wouldn't harm him. Why would he sweat and feel parched from the heat?

"Something's odd about this world."

Lu Yu took out a water bottle from his storage space and drank a few sips. He felt much better regarding the heat, sweating, and dryness.

"It seems this is not solely due to the heat." Lu Yu thought as he looked at the water in his hand.

Under normal circumstances, even drinking water wouldn't instantly relieve one of excessive sweating and thirst.

He looked far into the distance, where there was a large sand dune, and Lu Yu walked toward it. Here, he found himself unable to fly.

Or rather, when he released his Spiritual Power, it inexplicably dissipated as if absorbed by the world.

Moreover, in the desert world, Lu Yu couldn't sense any Spiritual Qi in the air; it seemed there was none here.

"Truly a strange place."

Lu Yu climbed the sand dune and, from a high point, looked around. In the distance, he saw a huge palace built of yellow sand.

Beyond the yellow sand palace, there was nothing but an expanse of flat desert.

"Is there no wind? How did these dunes form?" Lu Yu looked at the dune beneath his feet, puzzled.

If there was no wind, dunes couldn't naturally form in the desert. Without wind to move the sand grains, they couldn't overcome gravitational potential to climb and pile up into a mound.

Lu Yu exerted a bit of force and shattered the dune beneath his feet, revealing desiccated remains.

The clothing on the corpses seemed very old, not like what people wear today; these remains belonged to ancients.

Just as Lu Yu was about to squat down to examine the remains closely, the scattered yellow sand flew back and reformed the dune, with each grain returning to its original place.

Lu Yu's mind stirred, and with a casual kick, he sent some sand flying. As it flew, he used his perception to lock onto each grain of sand.

Soon after, the grains of sand lifted by themselves and returned to their distant origin.

"No Spiritual Power nor any other force; what on earth is happening?" Lu Yu was filled with questions.

Lu Yu shook his head, unable to make sense of it, and walked toward the distant Yellow Sand Divine Hall. The tracks he left on the dune, in the absence of wind, would naturally disappear after a while.

It was as if no footprints had ever been left, with each grain of sand maintaining its position.

This desert world seemed to remain unchanged, no matter what alteration was attempted; it would revert to its original form. What kind of world was this?

Lu Yu walked through the desert, taking a drink of water now and then.

The game rules of this world felt as though people would experience heat and thirst, and drinking water could alleviate these symptoms.

No process was necessary: once time moved, the symptoms of being drenched in sweat and parched would emerge, and just a drink of water would instantly relieve this negative state.

It was just like a poor-quality video game, traveling in the desert, ensuring one doesn't die of thirst.

Lu Yu discovered a pattern: every 10 minutes, he had to drink some water, regardless of the amount, to lift the negative condition.

If he didn't drink water, the negative state would worsen in another 10 minutes, culminating in a state of depletion.

At that point, a large quantity of water would be needed to remove the negative state.

He didn't try to see what would ensue if it got more severe, reckoning that beyond depletion, it could lead to being overcome by the heat. Being heat-stricken would render him incapable of action.

Just like a downed teammate unable to self-rescue, relying on others to pull him up.

Lu Yu didn't want to experience depletion worsening into a more severe negative condition, as he didn't have anyone to assist him.

Besides, this world seemed to adhere to another rule: a journey being longer than it seems.

Lu Yu didn't know how much time had passed. The water in his storage space depleted, relying on purchasing spiritual water from the marketplace to dispel the negative condition, yet he hadn't reached the Yellow Sand Divine Hall.
