Holding up their flashlights, the group entered the Nether Acupoint.
First came a set of stairs sloping downward, the staircase was so long that one couldn't see its end at a glance.
Ye Yuqiao carefully observed her surroundings without spotting anything out of the ordinary. It wasn't until they were halfway down that she noticed something slightly different about the walls on either side.
The wall on her left exuded Yang Energy, constructed of meticulously carved Yang Stones; the right wall, however, was built of Yin Stones.
The so-called Yang Stones were those which had been bathed in sunlight for years, soaking up the Yang Energy between heaven and earth; Yin Qi, on the other hand, was the exact opposite, found in stones that had not only been deprived of sunlight for long periods but also located near graveyards, battlefields, or pits of thousands of corpses.
"The walls on either side of this staircase are forged from Yin and Yang Stones; is there a particular purpose or meaning behind this?" murmured Tang Jing, who was walking beside Ye Yuqiao.
"Where there's Yin, there's Yang; it's naturally the way of Yin and Yang," Xie Xiaofeng explained with a smile.
After walking for nearly twenty minutes, the five of them were finally about to reach the bottom of the staircase, and an imposing door loomed in front of them. The door was tens of meters tall, flanked on both sides by walls akin to city ramparts.
Above the door hovered a swath of purple Yin clouds, obscuring the door plaque.
"Who would've thought there'd actually be clouds!" exclaimed Xie Xiaofeng, looking up at the clouds above, "It's amazing, where could these clouds have come from?"
"Wow!" Tang Jing exclaimed in amazement, "Why's there such a huge door? It doesn't look like the door to an underground tomb at all, it's more like a city gate!"
Ye Yuqiao stood silently beside them, her brows knitted tightly. To her, the door seemed familiar.
It looked somewhat like, the door to the Netherworld!
The group approached the door.
"Ah!" came a sudden scream from Liu Zi, "Did you hear that, someone is crying, someone is crying!"
Wails of sorrow echoed in the ears of the group.
Wu Yong nodded somberly and gently patted Liu Zi's shoulder to comfort him, "Liu Zi, we all heard it, but don't worry, these are just echoes. There might be metal nearby, creating a closed sound field."
"It seems the tomb builders did this deliberately," said Xie Xiaofeng, "but why would they do that? They couldn't possibly be trying to scare off people who entered this tomb."
"I don't think so," Ye Yuqiao said coldly, "Anyone who can get into this tomb is no ordinary person, they wouldn't be scared off by these sounds."
According to Ye Yuqiao's conjecture, these crying sounds were more likely meant to recreate a certain scene.
The scene before the doors of the Netherworld City!
At all times, Yin Souls would be arriving to report in the Netherworld and, unable to accept their own deaths, they would wail and sob.
However, all of this was mere speculation by Ye Yuqiao. Whether her guess was correct would depend on what lay beyond the door.
Wu Yong had said that beyond the door was a bridge, beneath which flowed a river of mercury.
In the Netherworld, Netherworld City was followed by the Naihe Bridge, below which lay the Naihe River.
Ye Yuqiao looked at the entrance where the door was flanked on both sides by stone sculptures, one of a bull and one of a horse.
This could symbolize Niu Tou and Ma Mian, she thought.
As they arrived at the door, Wu Yong said to Xie Xiaofeng, "Xiao Feng, you stand by that horse. When I count one two three, you slap the horse's hindquarters four times."
"Speaking of which," Wu Yong walked behind the ox and started to count: "One, two, three!"
As soon as he spoke, Wu Yong and Xie Xiaofeng almost simultaneously slapped the rumps of the ox and horse. After four unhurried slaps, suddenly the stone statues of the ox and horse collapsed to the ground, and with a "rumbling" sound, the great gate opened, although just a crack, but it was enough for two people to pass through,
Having witnessed this, Ye Yuqiao couldn't help but laugh.
Inside the Netherworld, to break into the Netherworld through its great gate, one must defeat Ox-Head and Horse-Face, and the falling of the ox and horse statues implied just that.
The reason Ye Yuqiao laughed was that she found the way of slapping the rumps of the ox and horse quite amusing, as though it was meant to humiliate Ox-Head and Horse-Face. Clearly, the tomb's owner was not fond of them.
Although they had not yet entered through the first gate, Ye Yuqiao was already seventy percent certain that the tomb was constructed in the image of Netherworld City.
The entrance's shadow and sunlight each occupied half because of the interdependent creation and suppression of Yin and Yang, maintaining a state of perpetual balance;
And the staircase they had just descended symbolized the Path of Yin and Yang— the passageway connecting the mortal world and the Netherworld.
As expected.
When passing through the crack of the door into the first gate, Ye Yuqiao saw that the bridge in front of her was almost identical to Naihe Bridge.
Since Wu Yong and Six were present, Ye Yuqiao temporarily refrained from sharing her discovery with Xie Xiaofeng and Tang Jing.
"I stopped right here," Wu Yong said in a somber tone, looking at the bridge ahead, "watching my old man and the others cross the bridge and then never seeing them again."
"You two just wait here for us!" Ye Yuqiao turned around and coldly said to Wu Yong and Six.
"What!" Wu Yong exclaimed with wide eyes, "You mean I have to wait here again!"
Ye Yuqiao nodded without another word. She was accustomed to her words being commands and was not skilled at verbosity or explanation.
"No way!" Wu Yong shook his head, his tone resolute, "This time I must see what's on the other side, even if it means death!"
Ye Yuqiao glared at Wu Yong furiously and said coldly, "If you come with us, you'll be just like him, no help at all, only a hindrance."
"You!" Wu Yong exploded with rage, trembling with anger.
"Uncle Wu, Uncle Wu!" Six urgently tried to persuade, "The young lady is only keeping us back for our own good, there's no need to get angry. Let's just wait here; I'm sure they'll come back."
When Six said this, in truth, he was frightened of crossing the bridge and even more afraid of being left alone there.
Xie Xiaofeng also walked up to Wu Yong and gave an awkward smile, saying, "That's right, Uncle Wu, Six is right. Don't worry, we won't make you wait too long this time. We'll be back, and we'll do our best to clarify your old man's whereabouts."
After a long pause, Wu Yong finally agreed and said with a long face, full of sincere concern, "Xiao Feng, although we met just today, I truly hope you all return safely and don't repeat the scene I went through decades ago."
"Don't worry, Uncle Wu, we'll be back soon."
Then, under Wu Yong's anxious gaze, Ye Yuqiao, Xie Xiaofeng, and Tang Jing stepped onto the bridge.
As they reached the middle of the bridge, Ye Yuqiao said, "This tomb is built entirely in the model of Netherworld City."
Hearing this, Xie Xiaofeng and Tang Jing were of course greatly shocked.
"So who exactly is the master of this tomb? Why did he construct his tomb based on Netherworld City?" Xie Xiaofeng asked.
Suddenly, just at that moment, the bridge under the three of them began to tremble violently.
