"Right away?" Logan asked with a slight chuckle. "You just got here. The journey from your house may not be that long, but it's not that short either. Maybe you should rest for a bit first."
"No," Lilith said firmly, her tone filled with resolve. "I don't need rest. I'll rest when you all take a break."
"Well… uh…" Logan was momentarily speechless.
"Alright, fine then," he said after a pause, smiling faintly. "Besides, we're not going to train for too long before taking a break anyway. So let's start with the basics before that."
"Yes!" Lilith replied enthusiastically. "That's what I'm talking about."
"You two continue cultivating," Logan said, turning toward Rowan and Daliah. "In the meantime, I'll teach her the basics."
"Okay," Rowan and Daliah replied in unison.
Rowan and Daliah then sat down cross-legged once more, resuming their cultivation.
Within moments, spiritual energy began to swirl gently from the orb, forming faint streams of light that flowed toward them and seeped into their bodies.
Logan then looked at Lilith. "We'll sit a little away from them. Since I'll have to talk while explaining, it might distract them if we stay too close."
"I don't mind where we sit," Lilith said confidently. "As long as I can learn cultivation, that's enough."
"Good then," Logan said, nodding. He led her a short distance away from Rowan and Daliah and sat down cross-legged on the ground.
Lilith followed his lead, mimicking his posture exactly.
"The foundation of cultivation is Qi," Logan began, his voice calm and steady. "Qi is the essence of life, you could say it's the fundamental unit of our internal energy that grants us strength."
He continued, "So, the first step is to feel Qi. Once you can sense it, I'll teach you how to gather it, that's how you'll form your dantian. Forming the dantian is the most essential step before you can learn breathing techniques to absorb or refine spiritual energy from your surroundings and convert it into Qi."
Lilith blinked, her expression blank. Everything he said seemed to fly straight over her head. She stared at Logan as if he were speaking an entirely different language.
Noticing her bewildered gaze, Logan let out a soft sigh, realizing she hadn't understood a single word he just said.
"Alright," Logan began calmly. "Close your eyes first. Then try to feel the flow of oxygen in your body, the way it moves in and out with each breath. Next, focus on the blood coursing through your veins. Once you can truly sense that, you'll notice something else... something subtle but present. It's scattered throughout your body. It doesn't flow like blood, but you'll definitely feel it."
"Got it," Lilith said, nodding before closing her eyes.
At first, everything around her felt chaotic, the faint rustle of leaves, the beating of her own heart, and the nervousness of whether she could actually do it. But then she began to focus, following Logan's instructions step by step.
Gradually, she started to sense it... the rhythmic flow of her breath, the expansion and contraction of her lungs, and the pulse of blood through her veins. Every sensation grew sharper, clearer.
And then… she felt it.
It was faint at first, like tiny sparks of energy scattered across her body. They didn't move, but she could feel their quiet pulse, their gentle existence.
Her eyes snapped open, glowing with excitement. "I did it! I felt it!" she exclaimed.
Logan, who had been sitting calmly nearby, raised an eyebrow in surprise. "You… felt it? Already?"
"Yes!" Lilith said eagerly. "It's like small white particles of light, pulsing with energy, right?"
Logan was stunned. At first, he thought she might've mistaken the sensation for something else but after hearing her precise description, he was certain. She had truly sensed Qi.
'How long has it even been? Five minutes?' Logan thought, amazement flashing in his eyes. 'And she already managed to grasp it? Incredible!'
Lilith gazed at Logan with bright, expectant eyes, waiting eagerly for his next instruction.
After spacing out for a moment, Logan finally spoke again. "W-well… congratulations. You actually managed to grasp what Qi is. Now, your next task is to gather that Qi. Try pulling those particles toward your stomach, accumulating them all in one place."
"Huh? Pull them?" Lilith asked, her brows furrowing in confusion. Even though she was considered a prodigy, Logan's explanation was unlike anything she had heard before, and she found it quite hard to follow.
Meanwhile, upstairs on the balcony, Alice was passing by when she suddenly noticed Rowan and Daliah sitting in lotus position doing cultivation on one side, while on the other, Logan was sitting with Lilith, seemingly instructing her about something.
"What is he doing now?" she muttered to herself. "A new guest just arrived, and instead of letting her rest or freshen up, he's already got her training." She sighed, facepalming lightly before heading downstairs and walking toward the training area.
Back in the courtyard, seeing Lilith's puzzled expression, Logan tried again, this time in simpler words. "Think of those particles as mana particles. When you cast magic, you don't physically grab them, right? You just manipulate them with your will."
"Yes," Lilith nodded slowly, following along.
"Do the same thing now," Logan said. "But instead of shaping them into a spell, pull those particles toward your stomach. Gather them there. How does that sound? Do you think you can do it?"
"I'm not sure," Lilith admitted with a small shrug. "But let's try and find out."
"Alright," Logan said with a faint smile. "Go ahead."
At that same time, deep within a dungeon, Gazel and Sirus stood before the massive dungeon gate leading to the outside world.
"Humans can freely enter dungeons from outside," Gazel said slowly, his eyes fixed on the gate. "But for us monsters, it's different. We can't leave. There's an invisible barrier that rejects our presence and if we try to force our way through, it burns our bodies and eats away our flesh."
"True," Sirus replied, folding his arms thoughtfully. "But now that we've merged with these human vessels… do you think that restriction still applies? Or can we walk out without suffering the same consequences?"
Gazel's lips curved slightly. "We'll only know once we try. And boss already asked us to give it a try. So it's not like we have a choice. Go on.... try breaking out."
"Hmm? Me?" Sirus frowned. "Why me? You try first."
Gazel shot him a sharp glare, his expression darkening for a moment before he exhaled heavily. "Fine. Let's do it together."
Sirus opened his mouth, searching for a comeback, but no words came out.
"Alright," he finally muttered. "Together, then."
After that, the two of them stepped forward until they stood just a few inches away from the towering dungeon gate.
Both raised their trembling hands, pushing forward cautiously, as if they were about to touch fire.
The tips of their fingers brushed against the invisible barrier, a faint ripple spread through the air... and then, to their astonishment, their hands passed through effortlessly.
Their eyes widened in disbelief before breaking into bright, excited smiles.
"It's working," Gazel whispered, his voice trembling with excitement.
Sirus nodded rapidly, and together they pushed their hands farther, then their arms, and finally their entire bodies through the barrier.
A moment later, they were standing outside... free from the dungeon at last.
For a brief second, neither spoke. Then both burst into uncontrollable laughter.
"Hahahahahaha!"
"It actually worked!" Sirus exclaimed, eyes gleaming with exhilaration.
"We have to inform the boss right away," Gazel said, still grinning.
Sirus tilted his head. "Should we report it to him first… or explore a bit before that?"
Gazel thought for a moment before replying.
"Alright, let's roam around for a bit," he said. "That way, when we report back, we can give the boss a full account of the situation outside as well."
"Good idea," Sirus agreed with a nod.
With that, the two began walking away from the dungeon. Since the human bodies they had merged with were wearing cloaks, they pulled their hoods up to conceal their faces from anyone who might see them.
Meanwhile, back at Smith Villa, Lilith was making rapid progress. Although she hadn't yet managed to gather all the scattered Qi throughout her body, her pace was astonishingly fast.
Logan sat quietly, observing her with focused eyes. Let's see how long she takes to form her dantian, he thought.
Just then, a familiar voice echoed from behind.
"Logan, honey," Alice called out, her tone carrying a hint of reproach. "You should've brought our guest inside first, let her rest and have something to eat before starting training."
Hearing his mother's voice, Logan turned his head, while Lilith also opened her eyes.
"Mrs. Smith, it was actually me who wanted to train first," Lilith said quickly.
"You?" Alice raised an eyebrow. "Alright, but that's enough for now. You should come inside and have something to eat first. And after that, take some rest before you resume your training again. And it's already lunchtime anyway." She then looked at Logan. "Honey, call Rowan and Daliah as well."
"Uh… okay, Mother," Logan replied.
With that, their training session came to a pause. All of them stood up and headed back inside the villa to take a meal break and get some rest before resuming later.
