The Path of the Martial Arts BOSS

Chapter 49: Sutra Chanting

The Great Zen Temple is immensely large, serving as the ancestral court of the Zen Sect and the undisputed leader of Buddhism after the Zen and Esoteric struggle. Its architecture within the temple reaches the level described in the "Aphorism of the Palace," where every five steps a tower, every ten steps a pavilion.

"It's a pity that, no matter how magnificent the architecture, it eventually turns into scorched land." Yi Yeshu suddenly lamented.

"It's all the fault of those blasphemers against Buddhism," a trace of coldness flashed across Mountain Hermit's face, "Nalanda Temple resorted to the Three-faced God's power and has thoroughly drifted into evil ways. If it weren't for having the Taoists as opponents, Xinyuan Abbot would have long made Nalanda Temple pay the price."

'Does that mean I saved those Peacock Thieves from disaster...' Yi Yeshu thought silently.

He glanced meaningfully at Mountain Hermit beside him, secretly labeling him as Xinyuan in his heart.

Though Mountain Hermit is an ascetic hermit, his reverence for Xinyuan seems excessive, unlike any hermit at all.

Generally speaking, ascetic hermits, due to long-term seclusion, possess a more indifferent temperament. For high monks like Xinyuan, there should be reverence, but not so overt.

A suspicious person had several thoughts flashing through their mind, yet on the surface, they remained calm and said, "Relying on external power will never be lasting; Nalanda Temple will pay the price for their actions."

"Does Layman think so as well?"

Mountain Hermit seemed even more enthusiastic, walking and talking with Yi Yeshu, introducing various monks who had come to this place.

Indeed, he didn't seem like a hermit, as at least someone living in seclusion wouldn't be so well-informed about all the monks present, knowing their backgrounds and every aspect in detail.

Even though Yi Yeshu was deep in thought, he remained relaxed in speech, suitably responding without appearing too friendly or distant.

"Those wearing simple monk robes are Buddhist Friends from Dharma Temple. Their lineage focuses on spiritual cultivation, not valuing the physical body. However, their daily practices often involve arduous cultivation.

Despite Dharma Temple monks focusing on the Dharma Body cultivation, they have secret techniques for merging Dharma Body and physical body. Once they reach the Divinity Realm, the Dharma Body and physical body truly unite, making their physique no less than Golden Body Martial Artists," Mountain Hermit whispered, indicating with a glance at a group of monks in worn monk robes not far away.

Buddhist Martial Artists, upon reaching the True Pill Realm and condensing the Shariputra, can choose between cultivating the Dharma Body or Golden Body. The Dharma Body focuses on Qi Cultivation and Spiritual Training, while the Golden Body focuses on Body Cultivation.

Of course, there are those who cultivate both. Or rather, many Buddhist Martial Artists cultivate both; even if not, the Golden Body is the first choice.

Martial Artists specializing in the Dharma Body are often considered fragile due to their weak physique, even weaker than non-body cultivators.

Dharma Temple managing to be among the Three Great Buddhist Temples with Dharma Body cultivation is indeed remarkable.

"I've heard that Master Wula, the abbot of Dharma Temple, is also a Strongest warrior. I wonder what kind of presence he might have," Mountain Hermit mused towards the end.

"Oh?" Yi Yeshu seemed a bit curious, "You've never seen Master Wula?"

"Haha, Master Wula rarely leaves Dharma Temple, how could I have seen him?" Mountain Hermit waved his hand, "Layman Yi Yeshu, have you seen him?"

"Even you haven't seen him, how could I? Don't forget, it was you who introduced the situation of Dharma Temple," Yi Yeshu said with a smile.

After walking for thirty minutes, they finally approached the venue of the Great Zen Temple, also the location for this year's Buddha Bathing Festival.

From afar, the genuine Brahma Chanting could be heard, lingering at ears, resounding in the sky.

"...May all Buddhas possess infinite merits and magnificence; may I also adorn myself in endless virtue..."

The Buddha Bathing Festival being an important Buddhist holiday naturally includes a Dharma assembly. In the past, even if the Great Zen Temple didn't invite various temples, there would be temples spontaneously joining or directly choosing a location to gather the Buddhist monks together to hold a Dharma assembly.

This year, since the Great Zen Temple invited, the initial chanting took place within the Great Zen Temple, followed by various discussions.

The scripture currently being chanted by the monks in the venue is the "Sutra of Buddha's Saying of Amida," one of the rare classics among the Buddhist Scriptures not prompted by a disciple's question, but narrated spontaneously by the Buddha himself, and one of the Pure Land Three Sutras.

The Pure Land Three Sutras originate from the Pure Land Sect, one of the two branches, alongside the Zen Sect, having the most influential impact on Central Plains Buddhism.

"Hua Yan," Deep Secrets, "Dharma Flower," Mystic Essence, all essentials of the Buddha's mind and compass of Bodhisattva's actions are within.

This represents the Pure Land Sect's scripture doctrine, which exclusively venerates the chanting of the Buddha, considering it as the ultimate method for the Buddhist faith to reach its zenith.

In short, it means that by simply chanting the Buddha daily, without doing anything else, one can attain Rebirth in Pure Land after death. This is a significant tool for Buddhist propagation.

In fact, Buddhism owes much of its numerous followers to the Pure Land Sect's contributions.

Yet, unfortunately, in a world where Martial Arts Saints are revered, solely chanting the Buddha is uncertain to lead to Rebirth in Pure Land, but dying early is a certainty.

The Pure Land Sect could only chant the Buddha but lacked defensive power, eventually being completely destroyed overnight by a coalition of certain enemies.

Although the Pure Land Sect was annihilated, its missionary philosophy continued to be passed down, absorbed by other branches, ultimately leading to the flourishing era of Buddhism.

Of course, today's chanting of one of the Pure Land Three Sutras holds purposes beyond hosting the Dharma assembly; it also serves the shared goal of Buddhist monks—the Pure Land.

Though no sign has appeared yet, Yi Yeshu can already sense that the Buddhist sacred realm in the void is resonating with the scripture chanted by the monks, showing signs of manifesting.

Yi Yeshu's brow subtly flickered with a thread of Buddha Light as the Three Seals of Buddha responded with the Pure Land. Had Yi Yeshu not suppressed it, Mountain Hermit could have noticed the changes in his brow's script.

Moving closer, the chanting became even more majestic; although there were no anomalies like Earth Bursting Golden Lotus or swastika symbols in the sky, that was only because the monks did not infuse True Qi but solely unified their thoughts in chanting.

Yet, such a grand momentum subtly revealed the outline of a giant Buddha in the air.

Subsequent arriving monks flowed into the venue like water merging into the sea, chanting the "Sutra of Buddha's Saying of Amida," blending into the congregation of monks.

The monks in the venue all faced the center, sitting in a circular formation, expanding outward from the innermost circle, as if embodying the legends of All Buddha's Returning to the Sect, directed towards the central point.

At the center of the monks was a Seven-colored Glazed Tower. Under the sunlight, the glazed tower refracted vivid, majestic Buddha Light.

Two figures bathed in Buddha Light at the surrounding tower peak sat cross-legged, eyes partially closed, silently reciting the scriptures while guiding the monks' thoughts to converge upon the Seven-colored Glazed Tower.
