"How long has it been?"
Furinjira opened her eyes, and the familiar furnishings of the room immediately told her she was in one of the rooms at the "Oak and Hazelnut" inn.
The dizziness in her head was still severe. If it were an ordinary mage, overdrawing all their magic power at once could likely result in serious aftereffects, even brain death.
Even with a vampire's powerful physique, it still requires a long recovery period to awaken.
She instinctively licked her lips, a sweet taste lingering, making her somewhat addicted.
"Where is the lord?"
"I'm like this, and no one is left to take care of me?"
The sense of grievance grew like wild grass in Furin's heart.
Footsteps gradually approached.
She quickly closed her eyes again, pretending to be unconscious.
Losa placed a freshly baked honey cake sprinkled with nuts on the table and looked worriedly at the still-unconscious Furin.
Furin liked chocolate, which meant she should enjoy sweets, so he borrowed an oven specially, using the memory of his past life to bake a fairly decent cake.
"Why hasn't Furin woken up yet?"
Losa sighed softly, noting a shallow, already healed wound on his wrist, "Isn't dragonblood supposed to be very nourishing for vampires? I've fed her three times already."
Prajna frowned but said nothing.
Losa stood up and said, "I'm going to the bathroom, Prajna, watch over Furin for me."
"I'll have to go with you."
Losa awkwardly met Prajna's brown eyes and said, "It's just a bathroom trip, I'll be right back, what could happen in that short time?"
Prajna whispered, "You previously claimed you could protect yourself until we arrived, but facts proved you couldn't. So, you need to do as I say."
Her attitude was very firm.
System notification suddenly chimed.
Your epic retinue, Furinjira's intimacy with you has increased to intimate.
Losa paused, looking at the still pale and unconscious Furinjira, feeling puzzled.
Getting feedback on intimacy increase, could Furin already be awake?
At this moment, Prajna had stood up, walked to the corridor, and said to Losa, "Let's go. I won't focus on observing your private parts. To me, it's not something worth peeping at."
Furinjira couldn't contain her mood and cursed, "Bullshit, you old pervert, you even have to watch the lord using the toilet? Don't you have any shame?"
Prajna's lips curled slightly, and she whispered, "It's more shameless than pretending to be unconscious when you're actually awake, little bat."
Losa exhaled deeply, "So you were pretending; I thought something was wrong."
"Did you feed me your blood, my lord?"
"Yes, after killing the Evil God, I happened to obtain dragon blood, Prajna said it's very nourishing for vampires, to alleviate your injuries."
Furinjira, feeling a bit shy, said, "Th... thank you."
Losa patted her smooth white hair, with an unconscious fondness in his tone, "It's what I should do, eat the cake, and try my cooking."
Right then.
Noises erupted outside the window.
Losa looked out and discovered that the Royal Knight Order's knights were gathering around Pepin to duel with the Montreal knight who had insulted the Royal Knight Order's achievements last night.
He had no interest in watching the fight.
Montreal's knights, few of whom were skilled in martial arts, and the pockmarked knight showed signs of weakness and cowardice several times, clearly not among them.
Pepin was sure to win this battle.
Prajna urged, "Weren't you going to the bathroom, my lord?"
Losa chuckled, "Weren't you just saying that to tease Furin?"
A trace of exasperation flickered in Prajna's pretty eyes, "Do you really think I'm a person with such leisure and indulgence?"
Furinjira argued, "No way, no way, this is too shameful. Big guy, you haven't considered the lord's dignity. He's the lord we serve faithfully; how can you let him be seen in such undignified circumstances?"
Losa felt that the little bit of urge he had was completely gone.
Just the thought of being watched while urinating brought a wave of embarrassment that made him want to curl his toes and dig a three-bedroom apartment out of the floor.
"My lord, Saladin's envoy has arrived."
Hans's voice appropriately sounded from outside the door.
Losa let out a breath, thinking that Hans was indeed his right-hand man, always saving him from awkward situations. He promptly said, "Let them come see me."
Losa went to the room on the top floor where Zahir was held.
Upon hearing sounds, Zahir, who lay in bed, slightly lifted his eyes, "So, the people here to ransom me have arrived?"
"That's correct."
He flipped over and agilely leaped up, a hint of joy on his face, "Great, I must say, your place is really boring, not even a pretty maid willing to be given."
Losa said coldly, "It's all for your safety. The news of you being captured by us has leaked out. You should know how many people in this city hate you to the bone."
Zahir had led troops to plunder several villages affiliated with Montreal, places that were homes to many knights and soldiers of this city.
Zahir nonchalantly said, "That's your problem, not mine."
The door was pushed open.
A Saracen, dressed as a merchant and tanned by the sun, walked in.
"Baron Losa, I am the envoy of my king and have brought the ransom you requested. Your cavalry is currently verifying it."
The envoy placed a hand on his left shoulder and bowed to Losa.
Losa also traced a cross before himself, "Envoy, please sit. If the amount is correct, I naturally will release Prince Zahir to leave with you."
Prince Zahir glanced at him with some displeasure, whispering, "Why would it be you?"
The envoy smiled and said, "As your uncle, worrying about your safety and coming personally, is that not normal?"
"You are... Safudin?"
Losa said in surprise.
The envoy smiled and said, "Baron Losa, you impersonated my identity once; do you not know what I look like?"
Losa frowned and said, "Aren't you afraid I might take this opportunity to capture you as well?"
Safudin smiled and said, "My king once said that although Count Werner is cold and vicious, he is a very trustworthy person, and I believe his son is the same."
"You flatter."
Losa nodded slightly.
He indeed had no intention of acting against Safudin. He was a formidable opponent but not worth the risk of going to war with Saladin of a life-and-death struggle.
Hans walked into the room and whispered in Losa's ear, "The amount is accurate, and the quality is excellent. Two thousand Suludes, no less."
Losa nodded and said, "If that's the case, Lord Safudin, as promised, I will let you and Prince Zahir leave."
Safudin nodded slightly, "Baron Losa, thank you for fulfilling your promise."
"If the will of the Holy Fire requires us to fight each other, then next time we meet on the battlefield, when I capture you, I will generously grant you freedom."
Losa agreed deeply, saying, "If it were me, I would definitely kill you."
Seeing Safudin's puzzled expression, Losa explained, "You would grant me freedom because you believe I pose no threat to you; I would choose to kill you at the first opportunity because I acknowledge you as the greatest threat to the kingdom."
Safudin hesitated and instinctively said, "No, I'm not."
"My king is!"
An awkward expression appeared on Safudin's face, and instinctively he looked over at Zahir, realizing this beloved prince of Saladin was glaring at him.
Safudin said, a bit helplessly, "Since when did the Franks, considered savages, start playing word games?"
Losa smiled, "May the Holy Fire protect you, the most honorable and fearsome opponent I recognize in the Zoroastrian world, Governor Safudin."
Though it was words of praise, Safudin felt as if they were like a poisonous sword coated with venom.
He uncomfortably waved a hand at Losa and then stood up to leave, "Farewell, sharp-tongued Frank."
Watching Safudin depart, Losa instructed, "Have someone keep a close watch on them. I suspect Safudin has other plots during his visit to Montreal."
Hans immediately obeyed and left.
