Monarch of The Abyss

Chapter 87: The Voltaris Empire[5](Bonus)

A day had passed, the group was given the best guest rooms in the Palace and everyone respected them a lot.

They were the saviors of their crown princess, how could they not respect them. Xior and Acheron had just finished eating breakfast.

Since yesterday Acheron kept quiet, she only spoke broken sentences to Xior's mind. It was obvious that she had bad memories tied to this place.

Xior remembered what he saw some days ago, how he saw the little girl get chained up, her father get betrayed and killed and her being thrown into the Abyss after she was pushed to the edge and resorted to violence.

She didn't speak after eating and got up from the chair and pulled Xior's arm, indicating that she wanted him to come with her.

He got up and walked around with her, she traced her hand on the walls of the Palace and remembered things from a distant past.

Her eyes glistened as though the walls whispered to her about the tales from a bygone era, an era in which she had once lived in this Palace.

'Xior, I was once a princess of the Voltaris Empire too.' Acheron said and continued walking forward while touching the walls with her small hand.

'I figured…; He replied. 'I saw what they did to you…how they treated you out of jealousy…'

He didn't finish as he saw Acheron stop, she turned towards him, tears were on the verge of breaking out but she smiled.

It was a smile he was all too familiar with, a fake smile, and an exaggerated smile to conceal their true emotions.

'Yeah but I'm over what happened back then.' She added and continued walking.

She thought she could fool him of all people, he spent five years in the Abyss which made him able to perceive the emotions of others easily.

He knew that she wasn't over it, she was just lying because she didn't want to burden him. She already was leeching off his blood and Abyssal mana.

'Even though I was a princess, the heir apparent just like Meeka…the crown is not mine, it could never be mine for it is my wound, the wound which never healed, it's the wound which broke my heart.' She said,

'Acheron…if you bottle up things nothing will get better, you're going to suffer more than you already have if you do this.' He replied as he trailed behind her.

'You would not know Xior, compared to me you're like a little baby who has yet to crawl. I've lived for over two millennia and have seen all kinds of people. At the end every relationship falls apart. I don't want to open up to someone who will also leave me one day.'

Xior understood her concern and he didn't have any way to give her reassurance so he kept quiet and walked behind her.

She told him what place used to be back then, she came across a corridor and froze in place. Then she slowly walked in and spun around as if she was dancing.

Then she started to dance, this corridor was one where her mother used to take her through and she would dance with little Acheron.

Unknown memory fragments made their way into Xior's mind, as he let them flow in he didn't see only Acheron dancing, instead he saw Acheron still in her form dancing and her mother dancing on the opposite side.

They approached an abandoned part of the Palace, one where there were no guards who stopped them.

Her footsteps became slower, this place was the somewhere she spent all of her childhood. Her room and the garden around.

She hesitated to go further, her hands shook as she thought of the decision but before she could make up her mind, Xior grabbed her arm and pulled her forward.

He needed her to let go and cry her heart out, maybe just maybe she would be able to do so.

They came across a rusted door, chained and made it so that no one would be able to enter it. But Xior pulls apart the chains and opens the door.

It led to a small corridor, this was basically the residency of the then heir apparent Acheron. On the left were a small kitchen and a living room and on the right was her big bedroom.

She trembled as the memories came back, the strength in her legs almost gave out but Xior caught her.

'Let me go, I'm alright.' She said with a curt tone.

'Alright, my bad. I won't do that anymore.' Xior replied

She pushed herself forward and walked ahead of him and towards her bedroom. The door was once again chained and closed but Xior pulled it apart and broke the locks.

Now nothing bound to it, Acheron slowly raised her hand and grabbed the handle of the door. She felt a chill run through her body which made her more nervous than before.

She twisted it and the door opened with a creak, inside it was dark but then Xior ignited one of his fingers so that there was some light inside.

The room was dusty, everything had dust and mold on them. The room felt as if it had been frozen in time.

The shattered toys, a children's bed and splatters of blood on the floor. Everything was the same as the day she was thrown into the Abyss.

That was the breaking point for her, she dropped down on her knees as all the tears she held back came rushing out.

Soon her small hitched sobs turned into loud wails, the grief of a millennia was too much. Even if she grieved like this for another millennia, even then she wouldn't be free from it.

'I-I was never meant to leave this room.' She said as she continued to cry.

Xior also dropped on his knees and pulled her in for a hug, she kept on crying into his chest and he lightly rubbed her back.

He didn't try to tell her to stop, she would soon stop herself and for now it was better to cry than to bottle things up.
