Starting Cultivation in Wasteland

Chapter 152: Exaggerated the Report a Bit (End of Four-Release Day)

Qu Jianlei really didn't want to cause trouble, but unfortunately... trouble found him.

So in the next two days, he seriously studied the relevant laws and regulations of Central City.

On the third day at noon, Qu Jianlei was cooking when the door to the small courtyard was banged loudly.

He opened the door and saw two ruffian-like men, but they weren't the same two who smashed the camera.

Not far behind the two men stood three others.

The one in the middle was very burly, arms crossed, casually chatting with the other two, occasionally glancing over.

One of the men knocking stuck out a hand and curled it twice, "Protection money!"

Qu Jianlei was taken aback for a moment, then replied, "I haven't rented out the house yet."

He didn't mind paying a bit of protection money, even on Blue Star, he'd encountered similar things before.

He considered it a "garbage disposal fee." As long as the fee was reasonable and could help deal with trivial matters, it was worth it.

The thug opposite seemed surprised that he was so agreeable, paused for a bit, then rudely stated.

"Even if there's no rent, you still have to pay. Can't rent out the place... so we never collect?"

"Then don't collect," Qu Jianlei casually replied, then looked at the burly man, "Modified Warrior?"

"You...!" The thug raised his hand, pushing towards Qu Jianlei's chest.

Qu Jianlei stepped back sharply, glaring coldly at the thug.

If the thug dared step into the yard, Qu Jianlei would dare to act, as was permissible by the laws of Central City.

As he retreated, the three people who were chatting stopped, all looking at him.

The thug missed his push and angrily tried to step into the small courtyard, "Looking for death, aren't you?"

Another thug grabbed him, pointed at the cameras in the yard, and shook his head.

To survive in society, they needed to be well-versed in all kinds of laws; otherwise, how could they operate on the fringes of the law?

The thug who was pulled back calmed down, raised a finger towards Qu Jianlei, "You're good... we'll see!"

Qu Jianlei looked at him expressionlessly, "Next time you knock, don't be so loud!"

Just as he was about to close the door, the burly man came over, "Wait!"

Qu Jianlei frowned, "What is it?"

"You're pretty skilled," the man nodded slightly, then spoke with interest, "Why not come work with me?"

Qu Jianlei blinked, slightly puzzled as he spoke, "What do you do?"

"This area," the man said cross-armed, "is under my protection."

Qu Jianlei shook his head without hesitation, "Sorry, not interested."

Then he raised his hand and closed the courtyard gate.

The thugs outside were furious, raising a hand to bang the gate again, but were stopped by the burly man, "Alright, we'll talk later."

In the next three days, no one came to ask for any more rent fees, and everything seemed to calm down.

On one early morning, Qu Jianlei was about to cook when he was startled to find, "Power's out?"

He really didn't expect that an area so close to the affluent district would experience a power outage.

With the approaching summer in mind, he decided to go out and buy a generator.

He had just driven away, and over ten thugs arrived, messing up the facade of the house.

Seven or eight thugs also jumped into the small courtyard, wreaking havoc as well.

Qu Jianlei didn't spend even an hour buying the generator, and when he drove back, he was dumbfounded.

More than a dozen thugs were standing around, disheveled, smirking at him, and the burly man was there in the distance.

Qu Jianlei thought for a moment, then got out of the car, walked up to the burly man, and tilted his head to ask, "Was this your doing?"

The man stood with arms crossed, half smiling as he looked at him, not answering.

However, a man beside him couldn't hold back, "Who the hell do you think you're talking to? Which eye saw we did it?"

Qu Jianlei was momentarily stunned, then began to laugh, flashing a mouthful of white teeth, "Do you know what you're doing?"

At that moment, a jeep came around the corner, and the driver waved at Qu Jianlei, "Jian Lei..."

The speaker was Ma Long, who the next second froze, "What the hell... happened here?"

"House got trashed," Qu Jianlei replied helplessly, "Isn't the security in Central City supposed to be good?"

Ma Long braked, pushed his car door open, and stepped down, and the thugs immediately noticed the silver ring in his hand.

"Oh crap... Inspection Bureau?"

Some turned to run, but Ma Long casually pulled out a laser pistol, coldly warning, "Run and you'll be shot dead!"

While saying this, he simultaneously raised his hand and fired.

A thug was shot in the back, leaving a teacup-sized transparent hole from his back through to his chest, collapsing immediately.

With injuries like that, there was no point in treatment.

The other thugs paused at the sight, the burly man also lowered his arms, watching Ma Long warily.

"Ma Long from the Earth Room of the Inspection Bureau," Ma Long showed his credentials briefly.

Then he tapped his laser gun twice, speaking expressionlessly, "You are suspected of a significant crime."

"Do you plan to come with me to the Inspection Bureau voluntarily, or should I break your legs and drag you there?"

The thugs dared not make a sound; this guy indeed had a license to kill.

The burly man saw this, lightly coughed, "Sir Ma Long, I was with..."

Ma Long's body flashed, appearing in front of him, slapping him hard across the face.

The man's left cheek swelled visibly, yet he dared not make a sound.

Ma Long flexed his wrist, sneering, "Did I tell you to speak? What a piece of work!"
