Running A Cemetery in North America

Chapter 186: Iron Yama

Yaksha, a grotesque ghost in Buddhist scriptures, known for its courage and ferociousness, capable of devouring humans.

Some Yakshas became Dharma Protector deities under Buddha's guidance, becoming part of the Celestial Dragon Eight Divisions.

The Sutra of Vimalakirti, Chapter on the Buddha Country says: "And the other great and mighty gods: Dragons, Yakshas, Kinnaras, Asuras, Garudas, Kinnaras, Moloch, all came to sit in the assembly."

Venerable Kumarajiva noted: There are three kinds of Yaksha: one on earth, two in the sky, and three celestial Yakshas.

Earth Yakshas only offer material gifts, so they cannot fly, celestial Yakshas offer chariots and horses, thus they can fly.

Seeing the skinned Yaksha clawing towards him, Sun Yan reacted extremely quickly, reflexively leaning back in an iron bridge stance, dodging the Yaksha's attack.

Seizing the opportunity, he pulled out the Nine Dragon Five Thunder Seal and pressed it against the Yaksha's chest.

Instantly countless flashes of lightning burst forth, the terrifying arcs of thunder erupted, blasting the Yaksha away.

However, the creature's physique was extraordinarily robust, and after landing, it still had the strength to rise and fight again, roaring continuously, once more charging towards Sun Yan.

"Leave it to me."

At that moment, Sosia had already stepped in front of Sun Yan, transforming into a werewolf with her body covered in white fur; despite having only one arm, her momentum was no less than that of the Yaksha.

With a swing of her hand, she chopped at the Yaksha's face with an axe.

A golden light flared, and the Golden Halberd struck fiercely on the Yaksha's face.

The Yaksha clearly underestimated Sosia's strength, its entire face was split in half by the axe, blood flowing profusely.

But its life force was extremely tenacious, even with such a severe injury, it still managed to strike a claw onto Sosia's shoulder.

If it weren't for Sosia possessing the bloodline of a zombie werewolf, she might have been killed by this blow.

Hit heavily by the Yaksha, Sosia roared in anger, her one-arm muscles bulging, forcibly pinning the Yaksha to the ground, then lifting the Golden Halberd to chop continuously.

The Yaksha initially struggled, but after taking a few more hits, its entire head was chopped off completely, soon losing all movement.

"Could there be such a creature hidden inside every Divine Statue in this Buddhist Temple?" Elise remarked.

Sun Yan looked at his notebook, the mission hadn't shown as completed, indicating that the awakened being targeting him wasn't this Yaksha.

"Be cautious, there's something strange about this Great Black Heaven Temple."

Sun Yan cautioned, then headed towards the altar of the broken Divine Statue, seeing numerous Magical Artifacts, lotuses, rattles, short swords, wooden fish, and skin drums placed on the altar.

No one knows what calamity the monks of the Great Black Heaven Temple encountered that they left these Magical Artifacts behind in such haste, benefiting Sun Yan at this moment.

However, Sun Yan had no intention of taking everything; his travel bag could not hold much, and carrying too much weight would make walking difficult, especially in this snowy plain which would only invite trouble.

Moreover, Sun Yan didn't think these Magical Artifacts were any stronger or more useful than those he already had.

When his gaze swept over an ancient jar with a lid, Sun Yan's expression was one of surprise.

It was a wide-mouthed, narrow-bottomed porcelain jar, as white as if crafted in a small town in Jiangnan, with blue toad patterns on the surface. In Sun Yan's Celestial Eye, the porcelain jar emitted a strikingly precious glow.

This was an unprecedented sign not seen in the previous Magical Artifacts.

Sun Yan lifted the lid, and upon looking down, saw seven or eight irregular white beads as lustrous as pearls inside the jar, yet they appeared to be made of bone.

Weighing them, Sun Yan's face lit up with joy: "Could these be the Celestial Toad Relics?"

He had only hoped to find one, but unexpectedly gained several, a surprise bonus.

Having found what he wanted, Sun Yan had no intention of lingering and was unaware of what exactly was watching him from the shadows.

For safety, it was best to leave as soon as possible.

Last time dealing with the Suffering Bodhisattva had already exerted great pressure on Sun Yan.

This mission was even more daunting, so avoiding direct confrontation was best.

Sun Yan picked up the porcelain jar, nodded to Sosia and the others, and the three of them immediately dashed towards the gates of the Great Black Heaven Temple.

Just as they were about to rush out of the gates, a series of strange cries echoed from all directions.

At the end of the snowy plains outside the Great Black Heaven Temple, an eerie figure slowly approached.

It was a fat, grotesque figure with tangled hair and sharp teeth, possessing six arms, holding a skull.

Clad in a Lotus Treasure Gourd Armor Belt, it rode atop a woman as thin as a bamboo pole.

The woman crawled on all fours, her face skeletal, wearing copper rings on her wrists and ankles, her movements causing bells to jingle hauntingly in the snowy expanse.

"Iron Yama!" Sun Yan's face changed dramatically, recognizing who it was.

Long ago, a thin iron Thangka appeared, on which gold foil and silver foil formed the image of King Yan riding a female corpse through the mountains.

The Thangka had a border of vine-like iron patterns, with many skull motifs in the center, King Yan, known in Sanskrit as 'Yan Luo Raja', thus this Thangka was known as 'Iron Yama Riding Corpse'.

Initially, people thought it was just an exaggerated depiction of gods stepping on corpses, a common motif, but later discovered that in Iron Yama Riding Corpse, the female corpse's form was even more prominent than King Yan's.
