Running A Cemetery in North America

Chapter 172: Investigation of the Evil Spirit (Part 2)

With the homeowner's permission, Sun Yan immediately went up to the second floor and entered the room where Lauren's drowned child had stayed.

The bed was in chaos, with sheets and blankets scattered all over. Sun Yan reached out to touch the bedding, rubbed his fingers together, and found it quite dry.

"There's no sign of being soaked... Are you sure that child drowned?" Sun Yan asked Beilun, who stood behind him, without turning his head.

"I heard it from someone. At the time, the child's entire body was soaking wet, and it was swollen from being in water, looking no different from drowning." Beilun asserted confidently.

As he spoke, perhaps he felt a bit eerie himself. He couldn't help but pull his clothes closer and warily asked, "Mr. Jackson, what exactly is going on? Can you figure out the reason? I'm really worried there might be another victim, which would be unfortunate news for everyone in town."

Sun Yan took out the Soul-Calling Banner from his backpack and began shaking it quietly.

Soon, the silhouette of a Black teenage boy slowly materialized in the room. His face showed fear as he clutched his head and looked around, as if terrified of something.

"Tell me, who killed you?" Sun Yan walked in front of the ghost and asked aloud.

"Franklin, Franklin came back, that madman, he wants to kill all of us!"

The Black teenage boy shouted frantically, hugging his head.

Soon after, his spirit slowly dispersed, and Sun Yan noticed that the boy's spirit did not disappear on the spot but seemed to go somewhere.

"Franklin..."

Sun Yan pondered and turned to ask Beilun, "Does anyone in your town have the name Franklin?"

As soon as Sun Yan mentioned the name, Beilun's face suddenly turned pale, losing all color. He even subconsciously took a few steps back.

This reaction instantly caught Sun Yan's attention, as such a response indicated that Franklin was definitely not an insignificant figure.

"Mr. Jackson, how do you know that name?" Beilun asked in disbelief.

Sun Yan put away the Soul-Calling Banner and said, "That's my secret, not convenient to reveal, but you can think of it as one of my abilities as an exorcist."

Beilun's expression changed unpredictably. After ten seconds, he sighed deeply and began to speak.

"It was something that happened more than twenty years ago, when two outsiders came to our town—a mother and her son. They looked strange, I mean their appearance,

whether it was the woman or her son, both were taller than NBA players, at least reaching over 2.20 meters. At the time, people in our town thought they were wanderers, so they kindly took them in, letting them live in an abandoned house in the town,

Later, one day, children began disappearing in our town. All the townspeople mobilized and searched all over Nightingale Town, eventually finding seven or eight children locked in the basement of that abandoned house,

At that time, they were bound by chains, with wire piercing through their skin, making it impossible for them to escape and leaving them trapped in the basement,

In the old house, the town folks also found two children's corpses, belonging to that mother and son; they were the two demons. I was on the scene at the time, witnessing the angry townspeople using various tools to beat the mother and son to death, and their surname was Franklin."

Beilun nervously asked, "Mr. Jackson, does this matter have anything to do with Franklin this time?"

"From the current situation, he seems to have come back as a ghost. No wonder I sensed such intense resentment when I saw him last night. Didn't you invite a priest to purify the area after you beat him to death?"

Sun Yan walked out of the room and directly headed downstairs.

Since the target had been identified, the next step was simply to find the target's location.

Generally speaking, when a person dies and becomes an evil spirit, they would have a place to reside, and this place would have special significance to the evil spirit,

such as being where the evil spirit's corpse is buried, or a place where they lived while alive, or a Yin Gathering Land suitable for the evil spirit to hide.

He just needed to systematically rule out these possibilities to find Franklin's location.

"Mr. Beilun, do you remember how you dealt with the bodies of Franklin and his mother after beating them to death?"

Sun Yan asked as he passed through the living room, planning to leave the house without looking back.

Unexpectedly, upon hearing this question, the Black Lauren sitting on the sofa immediately raised his head: "Did you just say Franklin?"

Beilun then descended from the second floor, explaining to Sun Yan, "Lauren was there at the time, and it was he who led the group to bury Franklin and his mother's bodies."

"That's great. Mr. Lauren, can you take me to see where the bodies were buried? Although your child has already been harmed, if you help me, I can prevent such things from happening again in Nightingale Town. You don't want a tragedy to happen again, do you?"

Under Sun Yan's gaze, Lauren remained silent for a moment, then stood up and said, "Follow me."

Lauren was the first to discover his son's cause of death upon entering his room that morning, and he was bewildered and disbelieving at the time.

His house didn't even have a bathtub, so how could drowning be possible? It made him recall a girl in town who had hung herself days ago.

Lauren suddenly remembered that just a few days ago, his son had told him about dreaming of a strange person while sleeping.

The person wanted to take his hand and go swimming in the sea, but his son refused.

Lauren paid it no mind at the time, but with the current events in mind, he was now convinced that a dream-killing entity truly existed in Nightingale Town.

It was this creature entering his son's dream that led to his death.

...

At the corner of Nightingale Town, in a jujube orchard.

Lauren, Sun Yan, and Beilun stood at the edge of the jujube orchard. Lauren pointed to a jujube tree and said, "It's here. We buried the bodies of those two murderers here back then. But given all these years, it won't be easy to dig them up again."

They had already grabbed digging tools from Lauren's house before coming here.

Sun Yan rolled up his sleeves, "Let's dig and see what we find. If we can locate Franklin's corpse bones, I'll have a way to deal with this trouble for Nightingale Town."

The three of them immediately took up the tools, gathering around the jujube tree and started digging.

Several hours later, the area around the jujube tree was dug a meter deep by all three of them. However, they found nothing, not even a single stone.

Sun Yan asked in puzzlement, "Are you sure it's this spot? Or did you bury the bodies too deep back then?"

Lauren scratched the back of his head in doubt, "Impossible, we buried them right here. It wasn't deep, as they weren't good people, and we weren't going to dig them a grave. From what I recall, it was barely half a meter deep, so how is it we can't find them now?"

Beilun patiently suggested, "Think harder. Could it be possible you forgot the exact location over the years?"

"Impossible, it's definitely this spot."

After a moment of silence, Sun Yan climbed out of the pit, seemingly giving up. Beilun quickly asked, "Mr. Jackson, where are you going?"

"Let's wrap it up; there's no need to continue. If I'm guessing right, the bodies were secretly dug up and moved a long time ago. Staying here is merely a waste of time."

Sun Yan threw the pickaxe to the ground, speaking with a serious expression, "Mr. Beilun, please inform the parents in town that all children who dreamed of the strange person should stay overnight in the town hall tonight. I'll ensure their safety and see what exactly Franklin has become."
