Running A Cemetery in North America

Chapter 135: The Yin Yang Master's Bird House Barrier (Part 2)

Sun Yan tried to change the subject, as these noble family disputes were too complex.

Once involved, it would affect many factions, whether it was the family behind Lady Hermione, the Park family, or the Ikegawa family.

Sun Yan did not want to have too much interaction with them; he was paid to do a job and did not want to be left with any lingering troubles.

If earning some money meant getting himself deep in trouble, it would be a huge loss, as Sun Yan was not alone in this world—he had parents and a family.

"Father Jack, with Park Guochang dead and the treasure chest not obtained, their next targets will definitely be me and the child. The Ikegawa family will not give up on reclaiming the treasure chest that rightfully belongs to their family. I would like to ask for your help once more, you can name your price."

"I must decline."

Sun Yan shook his head: "Lady Hermione, I cannot accept this commission. My abilities are limited. I have already expended many means to safely escort your child to Fengka Town. If I encounter such strange events again along the way, I won't be able to handle them.

Moreover, since your family has such capabilities, and you have managed Fengka Town for many years, you must have some ability to deal with the Ikegawa family. I believe that they alone are not your match."

Seeing that Sun Yan was determined not to make a move, Lady Hermione sighed and had to give up.

As Sun Yan said, after her family came into contact with the Greedy Treasure Chest, they learned of the supernatural powers existing in this world.

After obtaining the Greedy Treasure Chest from Park Guochang, Lady Hermione's family hid the chest in this remote Fengka Town.

They also turned this small town into a fortress, with an unknown number of mechanisms and mercenaries inside, enough to handle any attempts at forced entry.

To guard against the Yin Yang Master of the Ikegawa family, Lady Hermione's family also brought in several priests to build a church in Fengka Town.

Even if the Yin Yang Master from the Ikegawa family arrives, there are means to deal with them.

The reason she wanted to keep Sun Yan to help was only for an extra layer of security.

From Joles' introduction and what Sun Yan had accomplished recently, Lady Hermione highly recognized the capabilities of this Eastern Exorcist.

But since he was unwilling, there was no way around it.

Lady Hermione was confident in her defenses in Fengka Town. Even without Sun Yan's help, she might still take on the Ikegawa family.

"Joles, take Father Jack to the garage to pick a car. Maybe we'll have the opportunity to cooperate again in the future," Lady Hermione said with an elegant smile.

"About the Evil God Council…" Sun Yan reminded.

"I only know that the remnants of the Ikegawa family joined the Evil God Council. Besides this, I don't know much about the Evil God Council. If Father Jack is willing to stay and help me deal with the Ikegawa family, perhaps we can force them to reveal what you want to know then.

I have some Truth Serum whose effects are quite good for interrogating prisoners; I am very confident in it. What does Father Jack think?"

Sun Yan chuckled, "No, it's not worth it."

Under Joles' guidance, Sun Yan and Elise left the manor and headed to Lady Hermione's garage.

Joles, who had been tense all along, finally relaxed and said to Sun Yan apologetically, "Sorry, Father Jackson, I didn't know the situation was so dangerous and got you involved. I originally thought it was just a lucrative commission from Lady Hermione, which is why I recommended you to her."

"It's fine, exorcism work is like that, no one knows the dangers lurking behind. Since you work for Lady Hermione, be careful yourself.

Judging from what happened last night, the pursuer's forces shouldn't be underestimated," Sun Yan reminded.

The moth creature that could summon an evil deity was most likely from the Evil God Council. How else could it have such fearsome methods?

If it wasn't Sun Yan protecting the baby last night but an ordinary exorcist, they likely would have perished on the road.

Sun Yan seriously doubted Lady Hermione herself didn't realize how powerful the enemy was. Such forces couldn't be dealt with by guns and explosives.

Because Sun Yan could see the depth of the situation, he didn't enter this mess for the money.

Even if Lady Hermione offered Sun Yan 10 million US dollars, he wouldn't agree.

"Alright, Father Jackson, feel free to pick any car here; they're all fully fueled, enough to get you back to Los Angeles to catch a flight," Joles said, pointing to the luxury cars filling the garage.

Though unclear what treasure the Greedy Treasure Chest of Ikegawa family held, from the vehicles used in Lady Hermione's garage, Sun Yan could somewhat discern some clues.

In the city, a million-dollar luxury car is a status symbol for the wealthy.

But in this garage, supercars like Maybach, Koenigsegg, and Huayra were everywhere, giving Sun Yan the feeling that even luxury cars had become cheap.

"You choose," Sun Yan said to Elise.

He suffered from choice anxiety, finding it difficult when required to make a choice, so he let Elise pick to save time.

"I want that one," Elise immediately pointed to a Mercedes G-Class. After Joles fetched the keys, Sun Yan drove out of Fengka Town without hesitation.

After last night's events, this was a place he didn't want to stay a second longer.

...

On the vast wilderness, a silent road extended as far as the eye could see with no other vehicles in sight.

Sun Yan controlled the steering wheel, yawning, and boredly played music on CarPlay.

"Elise, could you check how long it will take to reach the city?" Sun Yan asked.

Elise took Sun Yan's phone and opened the navigation: "Nine hours."

"How is that possible? Haven't we been driving away from Fengka Town for a few hours already?"

Sun Yan frowned, hurriedly puzzled as he checked his phone. Upon seeing the location on the map, his expression drastically changed.

He slammed on the brakes to stop the car.

"Impossible!"

Seeing the location displayed on the phone, Sun Yan exclaimed in disbelief.

He was only 3.6 kilometers from Fengka Town, almost close enough to just turn around and go back.

But he clearly remembered driving away from Fengka Town for three to four hours, even at a snail's pace, it should have been much farther.

Suddenly, Sun Yan had a bad premonition, quickly opening his Celestial Eye to look outside.

In an instant, the scene before him dramatically changed.

At the horizon at the end of the road, a gigantic red torii gate had unknowingly stood up.

Not just in front of the road, but identical torii gates stood in the other three directions Sun Yan looked.

These four torii occupied the directions east, south, west, and north, resembling some form of barrier, creating an eerie feeling.

Torii gates are adjunct structures of Japan's shrines, representing portals to the Divine Domain to mark the boundary between a god's dwelling and the human world according to Japanese mythology.

The purpose of the torii is to warn visitors that they are nearing a god's domain, serving as a form of caution.

However, the torii Sun Yan saw now evidently possessed some ability to shield human perception.

This allowed Sun Yan to unconsciously drive aimlessly on the highway for hours without realizing he was going in circles, akin to being in a ghost wall.

"Damn, I'm still getting dragged into this mess," Sun Yan murmured to himself, staring at the torii gates.

Remembering how both Park Guochang and Lady Hermione mentioned that the ancestors of the Ikegawa family were Yin Yang Masters, the appearance of these torii must be related to them.

For Sun Yan to return to Los Angeles, he first needed to break the barrier set by these Japanese Yin Yang Masters.

"Let's go back."

With no choice, Sun Yan turned around and headed back towards Fengka Town.

Since the Ikegawa family had found this place, merely watching Lady Hermione would reveal the presence of those people.

To break the torii barrier, the solution must involve those from the Ikegawa family.

When Sun Yan returned to Fengka Town, the sight before him left him shocked, eyes wide open.

At present, the entire Fengka Town was hauntingly silent, with corpses strewn across the streets, all mercenaries armed to the teeth.

Each one of them died in a gruesome manner, expressions filled with terror as if they had seen something incredibly horrifying before dying.
