God of Pets

Chapter 181: Acquisition

Chen Guan had quite a few pets and Secret Cores on him, mostly Yellow Springs Ghost Soldiers, along with Soul-Catching Scorpions and Red Night Demons, which were pretty much useless.

The prices Chen Guan set weren't high, a little below the normal rate, but actually not by much, yet sales were quite good.

After a while, a female cultivator finally came over, glanced at the sign's content, then looked at Chen Guan and asked, "Boss, how much are you buying Flower Demons for?"

"20." Chen Guan directly quoted his purchasing price.

This world is just that realistic. In the pet market, some dog breeds with good pedigree can sell for millions, while no one would want a stray dog even for 10 or 20 bucks.

Similarly, for First Awakening-level Secret Spirit Pets, it's normal for some with unparalleled quality to sell for tens or hundreds of thousands, but for pets like Flower Demons, no one would want them even for a few bucks.

The woman's eyes lit up when she heard Flower Demons could be sold for 20 bucks. She quickly summoned two Flower Demons: "Boss, I have two here, do you want both?"

"I'll take them both," Chen Guan nodded.

The woman quickly transferred both Flower Demons to Chen Guan, happily left after receiving forty bucks from him.

"Boss, are you still buying Flower Demons? I have one too," someone nearby asked quickly after seeing Chen Guan really buying Flower Demons for 20 bucks.

"I'll take however many you have." Chen Guan said with a smile.

Soon, the news that someone at the market was buying Flower Demons at a high price of 20 bucks spread, and many people who had Flower Demons came to exchange them for money.

This thing might not even sell for a few bucks normally, but now with someone buying for 20 bucks, many were coming to sell.

"Brother, why are you collecting Flower Demons?" a man approached with a smiling face and asked.

"Naturally, it's useful to me." Chen Guan said indifferently.

Chen Guan had seen many people like this. They could be considered insightful, able to spot business opportunities, but such people also ruin the market, doing whatever others do, following trends too heavily, making this line of business quickly become rotten.

"I have a batch of Flower Demons, quite a lot, can we negotiate on the price?" The man saw Chen Guan wasn't a rookie who would easily divulge his intentions, so he tried another tactic.

"If you want to sell, it's this price; if not, move along, don't waste my time doing business." With that, Chen Guan ignored the man.

The man spoke a few more words; seeing Chen Guan ignoring him, he didn't get mad but squatted beside and watched. After a long time, he saw Chen Guan continued buying Flower Demons without refusal, no matter how many, and decided on a plan.

Soon, the man rented a stall not far away and wrote on a board: "Buying Flower Demons at a high price, 21 bucks each, no limit."

Seeing the man offering 21 bucks, some who originally planned to sell their Flower Demons flocked to his side.

Those who had already sold to Chen Guan felt a little regretful.

Luckily most of Tiger Soul City's residents were relatives of the Celestial Court Army. They were quite contractual and didn't come to Chen Guan to ask for a refund or return.

But visibly, Chen Guan's business wasn't going well anymore; no one was selling Flower Demons to him.

Chen Guan wasn't worried; he just watched the man collecting Flower Demons, while he continued selling his pets and Secret Cores.

The man collected for a while, acquiring quite a few Flower Demons, but seeing Chen Guan never reacted—neither raising the price nor approaching him—he started to feel uneasy.

"He's buying Flower Demons at such a high price, there must be profit involved. He's just holding out; I'll see how long you can hold on." The man gritted his teeth, continuing to buy Flower Demons at 21 bucks.

Flower Demons, these Secret Spirits, were common in the Beimang Mountain Blessed Land, but generally, few people specifically hunted them. Most Flower Demons as pets now were passed down, some reaching level 10.

However, due to the Flower Demons' lack of talent and potential, they rarely, if ever, experienced a Second Awakening, so they were either kept or passed on, without much practical use.

The quantity of Flower Demons personally held wasn't too large, so by the afternoon, only a trickle of people came to sell them.

Meanwhile, some people came to inquire, or subtly probe, both by the man's and Chen Guan's stalls.

Chen Guan didn't pay attention to them, and the man simply didn't know what use Flower Demons had, even if he wanted to say something, he couldn't.

Many in this market knew the man; after all, they all mingled in the same market, and everyone knew each other's backgrounds, figuring out his situation in a few words.

Seeing Chen Guan not competing with the man, no one dared follow the trend.

As the saying goes, there's no turning back once you draw your bow; the man had reached this point, so he could only grit his teeth and continue collecting, waiting for Chen Guan to negotiate cooperation or buy his Flower Demons at a higher price.

But come afternoon, when Chen Guan had almost sold all his items and started packing up to leave, the man panicked.

No one was selling Flower Demons anymore, so the man hurriedly packed and followed Chen Guan from a distance, becoming anxious when he saw Chen Guan heading out of the city.

"Brother, wait a minute." The man hurriedly caught up and stopped Chen Guan who was just about to leave the city.

"What's the matter?" Chen Guan turned around, looking at the man, puzzled.

"Brother, where are you going?" The man quickly asked.

"I'm not from Tiger Soul City, so naturally I'm heading home." Chen Guan replied casually.

The man grew more anxious hearing this but forced a smile: "Brother, you saw earlier, I have quite a few Flower Demons on hand. Let's make money together; how about I give you a thirty percent cut of the profits?"

"Make money? How do we make money?" Chen Guan asked with a playful smile.

"Brother, we all know what's what, let's not beat around the bush. How about a fifty-fifty split of profits from the Flower Demons I've collected?" The man gritted his teeth.

Chen Guan looked at the man and said indifferently, "I think you misunderstood. I'm collecting Flower Demons for my use. If you want to make money, look elsewhere."

With that said, Chen Guan turned to leave without hesitation.

At that moment, the man truly panicked. He had collected a few hundred Flower Demons, spending thousands, and if they stuck with him, it would all be for nothing.

Seeing Chen Guan summoning his mount to really leave, the man hurriedly dashed over, blocking his path: "Brother, don't go. Didn't you want Flower Demons? I'll sell all of mine to you for just one extra buck, 22 bucks each."

"Keep them for yourself. There are Flower Demons all over Beimang Mountain. I collect them for my use, for convenience's sake at 20 a piece. You selling at 22, are you crazy, or am I crazy? I can easily collect them at 20 everywhere. Why buy yours at 22?" Chen Guan said, preparing to leave.

"21... 21... just let me break even... I surrender..." The man quickly said.

He also realized Flower Demons were everywhere, not just in Tiger Soul City, and couldn't be hoarded for profit. Initially, seeing Chen Guan's high purchase price, he thought Chen Guan had a way to profit from them and thus followed suit, but now realized these things weren't scarce at all.

Items that wouldn't sell for a few bucks usually, buying at 21 meant sure losses if stuck with them.

"20... weren't you buying at 20... I'll sell to you..." Sweat covered the man's forehead.

"It was 20 before, but you made me unhappy. Forget about 20; it's 10 now per piece. Think it over yourself; if not, keep them yourself," Chen Guan said.

"10... that's too low... you know I bought them at 21... losing more than half... can't sell for that..." The man's forehead was dripping.

Chen Guan had long seen that the man's assets weren't sufficient; thousands weren't a small amount for him. He couldn't afford to keep those Flower Demons for long and dared not gamble on potential future appreciation.

"Then keep them yourself." Chen Guan unhesitatingly turned to leave.

"18... 15... 13... 12... 10, just 10, they're yours..." The man gritted his teeth as if it cost his life.

In the following days, a mysterious figure began collecting Flower Demons at a high price of 20 bucks all over various cities in Beimang Mountain.

Due to the brief time and city communications not being as efficient as outside, the matter hadn't spread widely, and residents within the cities talked about it only as a conversation piece, without realizing any major issue behind it.
