Reborn as the Failed Lord with my Resource Gathering System.

Chapter 168: Hidden prophecies and answers.

"You know that name?" Dorian asked, looking directly at Revina.

Before she gave a response, she scanned the room for a while, as though contemplating whether to speak or not.

What she wanted to say was something she would only feel comfortable telling Dorian alone; then again, it wasn't like she could ask the ones he trusted the most to suddenly leave the room as well.

As such, she swallowed all her doubts and carried on.

"The Lumberg family has always had strong ties with the Dragon Monarch... with you. But that wasn't all. Passed down from every generation was the sacred knowledge that would help the younger generation thrive and be further useful to you."

Dorian had his arms folded as he listened. 'I still don't get this whole Dragon Monarch thing, but if it means getting answers, I'll take on the role however it comes.'

Revina continued, "Throughout history, the Lumberg archives spoke of the same ancient enemies—enemies of our family, and enemies of the Dragon Monarch, whom we promised to serve after our contract with the great dragon of the black flames. The Gods. The Resistance. And finally, the Witch's Cult."

Dorian's eyes widened a bit. He fought the urge to ask who "The Resistance" was, since the God of Eternity had never mentioned a third faction.

'The Dragon Monarch... or rather, the God-Killer... had three enemy factions? No wonder the poor dude died. Now that I think about it, didn't Exlor say something about me betraying the dragons or something like that?'

As Dorian whispered in his mind, he was still simultaneously listening to every word Revina was throwing his way.

"The Witch's Cult was said to be ruled by a woman called the Evernight Witch. According to our history, during the Great War against the gods, she was said to have been the primary reason for the death of the Dragon Monarch. She was also the cause of the wide-scale death pandemic that happened back then, leading to the rise of witches all over the world."

Dorian looked to the side at the information. 'Yeah, I did remember how witch hunters suddenly began to show up back then, tracking and burning every witch they found.'

Revina suddenly summoned her blade, Faja. The pure white blade was gently placed on the table for Dorian to see.

"This blade was gifted to the head of the first-generation family by the Dragon Monarch himself. It was meant to be the only weapon capable of killing the Dragon Monarch, a fail-safe that could only be activated by the head of the Lumberg family.

This was a switch to flip if the Dragon Monarch were ever to take the wrong path.

Of course, no one ever intended on using it. Not until we figured out the witch was also weak against this weapon. As long as I remain the head of this family, I can wield the power of Faja and battle the witch."

'Basically,' Dorian thought, 'since the Witch God has supposedly always been an enemy of the Dragon Monarch—which is me—she, who holds the only weapon capable of killing the witch, can finally step in and act as my protector.' He chuckled a bit at the conclusion.

"So you're saying you feel the witch will come back and you want to protect me?"

With a serious look on her face, Revina responded, "Please take this seriously. Your life is at stake here. This revelation has already been shared from my father, and his father, and so on. The witch always kills you in every lifetime. Please, don't joke about this."

"If what you are worried about is my lord's safety, then I am more than enough protection he needs. I do not fear the witch, and neither does Lord Dorian," Maria uttered.

Judging from the look on Ciel's face, it seemed she agreed with what the knight said.

Not to mention, she herself already planned on having her own revenge on the Witch God.

Revina sighed.

While she was happy there were this many people willing to support Dorian, she could not let it go so easily.

Since the dawn of history, the Lumbergs have always followed their destiny: to defend the Dragon Monarch and serve him—mind, body, and soul.

There was also the dark part of that destiny... the fact that the Lumbergs were fated to watch the Dragon Monarch die and then end up killing themselves.

She wasn't worried about the latter, but defending him was more than important.

"Did any of you notice that not a single one of your attacks could harm the witch? Her mana is unique, similar in potency to how powerful Lord Dorian's is, but on a different, more terrifying level.

She is able to kill a god.

The only weapon in existence capable of harming her is Faja," Revina let out, not shy to express her determination to carry on that specific role.

Dorian was silent for a while. "You said something just now. The Dragon Monarch has always died to the witch, no matter the lifetime. Are you saying I have arrived here multiple times? Your words make it seem like I always come back to relive the same thing."

Alex dared not speak, but even he knew his history enough to know it was true. The Dragon Monarch was viewed as a god due to the fact he could also come back to life through reincarnation.

Before Revina could speak, Ciel uttered, "The elf king is right." She glanced at her master. "I spoke to Exlor regarding this, and the story he told also made the exact same point. In his history, the Dragon Monarch's 12th life was supposed to be the final one, until he eventually decided not to come back anymore."

Revina nodded, accepting what Ciel had said.

Dorian, on the other hand, suddenly leaned his back on the chair, crossing his legs the other way while a loud, exhausted grunt left his mouth.

'Dragon Monarch. God-Killer. Witch God. Reincarnation. This entire discussion is causing my head to ache. Up until a few years ago, I was just working as the assistant CEO for Yahoshi. Now I'm learning she's some kind of historical, cosmic villain.'

He leaned forward, looking at Revina. "Fuck this." Dorian finally said, cutting through the heavy atmosphere. "We are not getting anywhere like this. Fine. If you wish to protect me, I don't see why not. You and Maria can form a club. That said, I have a single condition for this arrangement."

Thankfully, Dorian added the last part; Revina's face had lit with joy just at the fact that he accepted, even though it was only subtle.

"The condition is quite simple. You are not to kill the witch without my express permission."
