Abyss Sequence

Chapter 79: What Is a Saint?

Sasa only showcased two products: the composite body tester and the magic power measuring device. The lord immediately became interested in the goods brought by these humans and organized the elves to test and inspect the remaining products.

Even though it is already nighttime, for the elves who can all cast spells, the night is not a problem.

Just like humans, some elves also enjoy nighttime activities, staying at home to sleep during the day.

Except for soldiers and scholars, elves do not have very clear divisions of labor. Every elf knows a little bit about everything, and the lord can easily gather a batch of elves with the ability to inspect products.

Initially, those elves had some complaints about the lord's behavior, but when they found out their next job was to inspect the sample products brought by humans, they immediately became excited.

How novel it is! They actually got such an interesting job. Long live the lord!

Many elves live for too long, so life becomes very boring. They especially hope to encounter novel things. Quite a few soldiers went into the profession because of curiosity.

Even if it is work, as long as it's something novel enough, the elves can dedicate themselves entirely to it.

Because they didn't know how many people would come, the lord arranged a big house for Yan Luo and the others in advance. Even if it wasn't filled, it wouldn't be a problem, as the house was originally vacant.

After nightfall, Yan Luo and the others moved into that big house, and the dinner was bought for them by Julia.

Appearing outside right now is still too conspicuous and might cause a commotion, so Julia helped them out.

At dinner, the five of them gathered around the dining table, eating dinner while discussing their observations of the elves for the day.

Sasa was the first to express her thoughts: "[Comprehend Language] This magic is essentially a knowledge infusion. I didn't directly learn the Elvish language; instead, Elvish pronunciations and writings appeared in my mind, and I had to compare them with Chinese to speak Elvish. This means that if the user doesn't understand the corresponding language sounds, they'll probably only be able to infuse the text."

Unlike engravings, the magic used by Engravers of the Mage sequence is designed by modern Blue Star people themselves. This is why there are many spells that conform closely to physical laws, and few abstract spells like [Comprehend Language].

Of course, it's only relatively close.

Among those spells that seem to comply with physical laws, many actually contradict them.

Wu Zechuan, eating a piece of pastry, chewed it a couple of times, then discarded it because the texture didn't match its fragrant taste.

"From the situation in this city, Sequence Three is still the backbone. Sequence Two, for the elves, is not particularly powerful, but their numbers shouldn't be large either."

This conclusion was drawn from Wu Zechuan's observation of the lord and Master Magnus's reactions.

They should know what Engravers are and what kind of power he possesses, and their reactions were only 'surprised,' not to the extent of being 'greatly shocked.'

Li Xinyue thought for a moment and said: "The lord wasn't very interested in trading with us at first, but after Sasa demonstrated the body tester and the magic power measuring device, they became interested. It seems they're not very concerned about how humans have developed and don't see us as a threat."

Liu Feiyu chimed in and said: "The commercial atmosphere here is not strong, and there are few trading activities. While driving here, I kept observing and found that they seem to have no equivalent currency, engaging in bartering instead—I think the Elf Race might be a communist society."

After Liu Feiyu finished speaking, everyone else looked at the usually quiet Yan Luo.

After a moment's contemplation, Yan Luo spoke: "I'm pondering what a 'Saint' actually is."

Both Julia and the lord mentioned the term 'Saint.'

The elves know what a Saint is like. According to them, Yan Luo thinks he might be a 'Saint.'

Blood infusion can empower those with extremely low magic power adaptability to become Enhancers, turning them into 'Samurai.'

In ancient times, Samurai were a separate class, and at least before the Qin Dynasty, the identity of Samurai was quite noble.

The reason for this might be that 'Saints' among their ancestors infused blood to some people, turning them into Samurai, and this culture was passed down.

But as time passed, the magical environment changed, individual power gradually weakened; during the Warring States period, there were stories like Liezi riding the wind and hunting the Kirin in the west; by the end of the Qin Dynasty and the beginning of the Han Dynasty, there were unparalleled Overlords like Xiang Yu. However, later, individual martial prowess was no longer the dominant force in warfare, and wars were led by corps instead.

During the Tang Dynasty, various mysterious stories circulated on the earth, like Wei Zheng beheading the dragon in his dream or Yuchi Gong and Qin Qiong being made into door gods. Later, mystery completely disappeared.

By this timeline, Blue Star spent thousands of years to allow magic power to fully dissipate.

What are Saints related to? Why could humans give birth to Saints?

These are the questions Yan Luo is pondering.

He doesn't care about the Elf Race or whether they can reach a trade agreement with them.

Yan Luo is more concerned with the issue of 'Saints' because, in his view, understanding what a Saint is might help him eliminate the Abyss more quickly.

Everyone is concerned about the 'Saint' mentioned by the lord.

Although Liu Feiyu has just joined, because he ingested Yan Luo's blood, he can be considered one of them, so Wu Zechuan pulled him into the discussion.

"The lord doesn't think Yan Luo is a Saint…" saying this, Wu Zechuan looked at Sasa.

Sasa shrugged and said frankly: "Okay, I'll be honest. Before Yan Luo's secret was exposed, I privately conducted some experiments with him, and in one, we aimed to explore why he has this kind of constitution, so I bought some experimental animals with the same low magic adaptability as Yan Luo.

"Through those experimental animals, we ruled out several possibilities, and just when we both thought the experiment had failed, I had a sudden inspiration and injected Yan Luo's blood into the experimental animals, and it turned out that the experimental animals with low magic adaptability underwent structural changes and, like Yan Luo, became empowered. Later, I purchased some animals with magic adaptability and found out that Yan Luo's blood can give automatically absorbing magic power to animals with magic adaptability.

"It was from these experiments that we concluded Yan Luo's blood can enhance individual advantages. Although we didn't explore the fundamental reason for Yan Luo having this constitution, getting this result wasn't a disappointment for those experiments."

Wu Zechuan suddenly realized, "So both you and Yan Luo think he is a Saint?"

It turns out that this piece of crucial information was missing, or he should have been able to guess it earlier.

Sasa nodded, "From any aspect, Yan Luo seems to fit the criteria of a 'Saint.' After all, think about it, if he merely acquired the superpower to strengthen his body, then why can his blood give you the superpower to automatically absorb magic power? It doesn't make sense! Only explaining with 'Yan Luo is a Saint' can answer all these questions."

The Engravers present all agreed with Sasa's viewpoint. Only this way, can the powerful function of Yan Luo's blood be explained.

Then the question arises, what exactly is a 'Saint'?

"It seems that Saints can also have very long lifespans because whether it's the lord or Julia, they all asked which Saint Yan Luo follows. They believe they might know the Saint Yan Luo 'follows'," said Sasa, looking at Yan Luo.

Everyone turned their eyes to Yan Luo.

Yan Luo himself was expressionless, his thoughts unknown.

Looking back at Yan Luo's previous experiences, it turns out that he became a 'Saint' all of a sudden.

And from an ordinary person to a Saint, he only went through one event.

—Fighting a deadly Silent Lizard and desperately trying to kill that demon, bathing his whole body in the blood of the Silent Lizard.

Bathing in demon blood doesn't make one a Saint, so the key to Yan Luo becoming a Saint is fighting a deadly demon.

As an ordinary person, killing a deadly demon and bathing entirely in its blood, can one then become a Saint?

If this is the way to become a Saint, then before the unfortunate ten years when Blue Star people didn't have Engravers, were there also people who became Saints?
