Chapter 54: Face Me Scum!

Duncan now needs to rest for two days.

Even though he wasn't severely injured in the battle with the sea monster serpent, he activated the Great Frenzy and entered a state of exhaustion for a full day and night. Moreover, his waist and abdomen were slightly injured, and by the time he returned at midnight, the skin around his waist was rubbed raw, so he must apply some medicine and recuperate properly.

Reality is not the Heroic Spirit Hall, after all.

The side effects of Duncan activating the Great Frenzy were quite significant; he directly entered a reckless state, completely devoid of the concept of fear.

He dared to face anything, dared to chop at anything.

He single-handedly took down two sea monster serpents, which was indeed a bit risky, but once Frenzy is triggered, there's no retreat; he could only carve a bloody path forward. Fortunately, his strength performed normally, and the two two-star silver-gray sea monster serpents were no match for him; he even had spare strength for another round.

"Is the lord injured?"

Galavin's expression changed as he saw Duncan supporting his waist as he returned, hastily moving forward to assist him, "Did the lord engage with the giant monster?"

Regarding Duncan's insistence on coming to Northern Europe to slay monsters, Galavin and others had their own views.

The Northern Germanic people greatly revered personal valor. If a warrior slew a legendary monster, they would easily gain the respect of Germanic warriors and even attract many followers and challengers. Due to the Germanic tradition, if someone slays Beowulf, they become the next legendary hero. Minstrels will spread their deeds far and wide, gradually turning legendary status into influence, capable of even affecting the actual kingdom's power balance.

If Duncan gained the prestige of a legendary hero in Northern Europe, it would make it easier for him to recruit a Barbarian Race foreign legion in the future.

His reputation could compel many Barbarian Race warriors to submit and follow him.

Legends from elsewhere might not spread that far, but slaying a monster here is real news to the ears of Barbarian Race warriors.

Galavin felt that Lord Duncan had grand designs.

"It's nothing."

Duncan shook his head, gesturing that there was no need for help, then spoke in a deep voice, "That giant monster is still snoring away in the cave. I went to check the coastline and encountered two sea monster serpents."

"Killed them both by the way."

"Go find some people and drag the sea monster serpents' corpses back to see if they're of any use."

"By the way."

"Use my alias here, hmm, call me Beowulf."

To give future generations a little shock.

He'd reveal his real name once he left the Northern Europe region, but for now, he'd be a little cautious.

Sea monster serpents?

The lord went to find the giant monster? And killed two legendary sea monsters by the way?

Galavin was shocked, without a doubt, as he had seen Duncan charge and kill in the midst of army formations. Such a fierce man, in Germanic legend, casually killing two sea monsters by the coast was nothing special.

He wouldn't even be surprised if one day he saw a Valkyrie from Northern legend personally pouring wine for the lord.

This small fishing village was in an uproar.

Once dozens of men dragged the over-ten-meter-long sea monster corpses ashore, rumors spread like the wind in every direction. People were overjoyed, as if heroes from the Mythical Era had returned, believing that monsters threatening mortal lives would soon be slain by his hands.

Duncan only stayed in the village for a day before heading into the forest the next day.

He had no choice.

The women of the Germanic people were too passionate and uninhibited, and he had already attracted enough attention.

Each sea monster serpent granted a Special Ability.

—"Snake Blood - Poison Immunity (Special Ability): You are immune to all common natural poisons. Only venom with supernatural power might affect you, but you still have a certain resistance to poisons."

—"Gaze of Fear (Special Ability): This is a monster's special ability, when you gaze at a target, any creature might feel fearful and tremble. It is seen as a supernatural ability. Against some creatures, the effect is akin to a top-tier pressure in the food chain, causing the target to not dare counterattack at all, and even flee in disarray."

One of the sea monster serpents was one-eyed, its head smashed to a pulp; he didn't look closely.

Once Duncan activated the Great Frenzy, even his sense of pain was greatly reduced.

"After all, supernatural creatures grant more abilities."

The legendary level hasn't changed.

It seems the sea monster serpents' rank wasn't high enough, any hint of legend likely tied to the sea demon; it couldn't condense into real lasting legendary status. In the Northern Europe area, for a fierce man to kill a few sea monsters isn't a big deal; it easily mingles with bragging tales in taverns.

One day passed swiftly.

After sleeping for a full two days, the giant monster lurking in the underground cave finally emerged. Its bald head had no hair at all, looking somewhat like a huge hunched cave dweller, with a height of about four meters, not as large as the giant human forms encountered by Unit Two.

But it also seemed not to be of pure giant lineage, as its skin's keratin layer resembled scale armor, likely belonging to some kind of monster hybrid.

Its cave was very dark, full of the corpses of cattle, sheep, horses, and humans.

This monster preferred to move under the cover of darkness.

Once it left the cave, it moved towards the human gathering in the village, appearing quite cumbersome, but its walking speed was swift, faster than an ordinary human running.

"Large size, runs fast."

"Plan has changed."

"The target is not agile, but its straight-line sprints shouldn't be slow."

Duncan widened the distance, observing from a god's perspective, watching as the creature headed straight for a village.

North European regions of the Middle Ages were still desolate, full of dense forests. Coupled with the Germanic people's poor land development and relatively small population, many areas could be considered wilderness, easily fostering supernatural creatures to nestle in.

The place the monster was heading was exactly the village where Duncan was staying. It seemed quite sensitive to sound; the people's noisy celebrations drew it in.

Looking at it this way, it did seem a bit like Grendel.

"Did that monster's mother give birth to several children? Could it be that aside from Grendel, there are other hybrid giants? This might be one of them?"

Never mind that.

First, think of a way to kill this creature.

The giant headed straight for the village, and soon screams from women pierced the night sky.

Ah!

A man resembling a fisherman was grabbed single-handedly, swung by one leg to the ground with a smack, and in an instant, was silenced. The giant ignored the ordinary villagers' counterattacks, even the Barbarian Race warriors struggled to penetrate its skin, as if it wore heavy armor. It rampaged through, effortlessly defeating everyone like an adult pounding on kindergartners.

This is the true power of a giant.

The creature swept through the village, killing over ten people in just a few minutes. It carried the corpse of a fat man in its right hand, smashed a calf to death with its left fist, then hoisted the calf on its back, stomping out the flames of a bonfire before vanishing into the night.

To it, all this seemed like routine hunting.

"If all the monsters were like this, life wouldn't have been easy for humans in the Mythical Era!"

Duncan had caught up. Standing on the treetop, he nocked an arrow and let it fly, hitting the creature right in the head. The giant's head was about thirty or forty centimeters in diameter, not difficult to target, but its skull was unusually thick, and even the Armor-Piercing Arrow seemed to inflict little damage.

"Who?!"

"Who attacked me!" (Giant language)

The monster roared in anger from the pain, even throwing away the human corpse in its hand.

Swoosh!

The arrow whistled through the air.

The next second, it covered its eyes and let out a piercing scream: "Ah!... My eyes... Despicable..."

This seriously wounded it.

However, Duncan was already exposed. He anticipated a fierce battle, but unexpectedly, the giant glanced at him and turned to flee.

Visible to the naked eye.

The creature's Life Bar slowly started to regain bit by bit, though not quickly, just a thin strip at a time. Yet, it was Duncan's first time witnessing someone regenerating health in battle. If it recuperated overnight, it might even heal from serious injuries.

What the heck?

It actually ran away?

Duncan was ready to use the France Flying Axe, as the giant charged quickly. He could only manage three arrows with Continuous Fire, then immediately switch to the France Flying Axe, and initiate Great Frenzy, confronting the giant directly.

But its retreat was not in Duncan's plan.

Aren't giants usually reckless?

"Could it be my Legendary Level is too high?"

Duncan landed and chased fiercely.

In fact, it wasn't his status that intimidated it, but a scent of sea monster and giant serpent on Duncan. The giant detected a hint of another creature's scent, of a recently deceased one, even a bit mixed with Sea Demon aura.

This made it uneasy and fearful, as if it faced someone not a mere mortal.

Something's wrong!

It's not fleeing towards its lair but escaping to a certain lake.

Not good!

The creature intends to seek help.

Duncan hadn't thought he'd scare it off, but the chase consumed much of his Energy Bar. Luckily, with his God's perspective, he could take shortcuts, while the giant's large frame became less advantageous in the forest, allowing Duncan to gradually catch up.

When the giant turned to look, it saw Duncan swiftly approaching like a phantom in the dark, then let out a terrified scream the next second!

This was a complete reversal.

During its massacre of the village, it displayed great bravery; now it seemed equally frightened.

Don't come near me!

The giant picked up a rock and flung it. It barely had any combat techniques, relying solely on instinct, relying on brute strength to create miracles.

Swoosh!

Duncan changed tactics, grabbing the Nord Bow, drawing an Armor-Piercing Arrow, and shooting directly at the enemy's knee.

In this situation, it's crucial to disable its legs first.

Originally, once close, his combat plan was to use the France Flying Axe to chop at the enemy's thigh and knee.

Thump.

The giant staggered, its knee struck by an arrow, the arrowhead piercing the bone, causing it to cry out horribly, leading one to doubt if it was of age, since Dwarf legends say they mature at fifty; giants probably mature over many years too.

The second Human Form observed that many adult Warriors were much taller than the Frost Giant.

"MOM!..."

The creature emitted a strange, blurred syllable, grabbing a sapling and wielding it as a weapon, charging at Duncan.

Realizing it couldn't escape, it prepared to fight Duncan desperately.

That's more like it!

So bold against ordinary humans, why flee when facing him?

Come fight!

Confront me! Scum!
