40 minutes later, at the entrance of West Coast District.

The security guard on duty suddenly shook off his drowsiness upon seeing three police cars.

Watching over a dozen plain-clothed police officers get out of the police cars, the security guard looked bewildered.

Why are so many police coming here in the middle of the night?

The past few days, there haven't been any criminal cases within the district.

He hurriedly stood up and ran over.

Li Jian asked in a deep voice, "How do we get to Building 5?"

The security guard paled with fright and quickly pointed to the right, "Right over there!"

He still wanted to ask something more?

However, Li Jian had already led the team away swiftly, disappearing from sight.

Three minutes later, a group arrived at the 31st floor of Building 5.

Everyone immediately spread out around unit number 1, and Li Jian raised his hand to knock on the door.

"Knock! Knock! Knock!"

There was no response.

Then, Li Jian raised his hand and knocked three more times, with much greater force.

Suddenly, there came the sound of a woman cursing from inside the room.

"Who is it?"

"Knocking so late at night, for what?"

The woman came behind the door and looked outside through the peephole.

"Who are you?"

"What do you want?"

"I'm an officer from the precinct, someone downstairs reported that you're loudly playing mahjong late at night and disturbing others' sleep. We've come specifically to verify the situation."

"We were all sleeping, not playing mahjong!"

"Quickly open the door, we need to verify the situation."

"It's our standard procedure."

After a slight pause, the woman opened the door.

Instantly, Li Jian and Chen He swiftly charged inside.

Following them, another ten or so men rushed in.

The woman immediately froze in shock.

Then, she shouted loudly, "What are you doing? What are you doing?"

"Are you really the police?"

"I want to call the police."

Right after speaking, Zhang Yean took out her police badge from her pocket and displayed it in front of her.

"Look closely! We are Jiangcheng detectives."

Meanwhile, Li Jian and Chen He quickly rushed into the bedroom.

The man on the bed was fast asleep.

Li Jian and Chen He worked seamlessly together to pin the man down on the bed.

Soon afterward, a pair of stainless steel handcuffs were clasped onto his wrist.

Only then did the man become conscious of his surroundings.

He opened his eyes and saw a group of ten or so men standing around, showing an expression of terror.

"Don't kill me!"

"I have money!"

"Don't kill me."

Li Jian smiled slightly.

"We are police, not bandits."

"We're not here for money; we're here for the truth."

"The truth? What truth?"

"Take him away!"

The man lamented, "I didn't do anything wrong, why are you taking me away?"

After the man was taken out, Zhang Yean asked, "Mr. Li, do we need to take his wife back for questioning too?"

Li Jian glanced at the woman; she looked terrified.

"No need for now."

"Notify her to come to the detective squad tomorrow to furnish more information."

"Okay, Mr. Li."

At 4:30 AM, in the detective squad interrogation room.

The man sat in the interrogation chair in his pajamas, while Li Jian and Chen He sat across from him.

After finishing a cigarette, Li Jian said, "Name? Age? ID number?"

"My name is Xia Jun, I'm 49 years old, my ID number is...."

Then, Li Jian asked, "Being brought in here in the middle of the night, you should know why. Speak up."

"Speak about what? I haven't committed any crimes."

"I'm just an ordinary businessman, I own a pet shop."

"No crimes? We wouldn't have come to bring you over with a dozen or more officers at night just to hear your excuses."

Xia Jun said mournfully.

"I really don't know why you are looking for me?"

"I was sleeping comfortably at home, and now I'm here all confused in the interrogation room."

Li Jian said sternly, "Don't you know?"

"Then let me refresh your memory."

Immediately, Li Jian stood up, took Wu Yan's photo, and walked over.

"Do you know this woman?"

Li Bing hesitated for a moment.

At this point, Li Jian continued, "Don't tell me you don't know her."

"You frequent her shop, buying clothes every week."

As soon as he spoke, Xia Jun suddenly lifted his head.

"I know her, she's just a regular friend of mine."

"Really just a regular friend?"

The man hesitated for a moment, then said reluctantly, "Dating partner."

"What happened to her?"

"Why are you suddenly showing her photo to me?"

"Please understand, we are interrogating you, not the other way around."

The man shrugged his shoulders and said, "I haven't contacted her recently."

"Of course you haven't contacted her, because she's already dead."

Suddenly, the man's eyes widened, and he looked incredulous.

"How's that possible? She was fine just a couple of weeks ago."

"Impossible!"

"Absolutely impossible."

Li Jian took Wu Yan's photo and walked back.

"Let's not waste each other's time; hurry up and tell us about your murder process?"

"Officers, I really haven't killed anyone."

"How could I possibly kill her?"

"I really loved her—I spent a lot of money on her—how could I possibly bear to kill her?"

"I had no reason to kill her."

Li Jian articulated slowly, "No! You did!"

"You have a very compelling reason."

"Because she cuckolded you."

"I don't understand what you mean?"

"Because she got involved with the trainer at Bense Fitness. That's your very strong motive for murder."

"Moreover, you just admitted."

"You spent a lot of money on her."

"The deeper the love, the deeper the hate."

"You sacrificed so much for her, and she suddenly got involved with another man—must be painful, right?"

Upon hearing this, a hint of fury flashed across Xia Jun's face, "That woman? Despite treating her so well, she still fooled around outside."
