The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 126: A Peculiar Disease

In the office of Mr. Zhang at the Jiangtai Construction Site.

Li Jian and Wan continued their questioning with three other individuals.

During the inquiry, all three mentioned a conflict arising during a poker game a week before Liu Jun's death, including physical contact with Song Can.

Fortunately, others in the dormitory at the time immediately separated the two, preventing any injuries and more serious consequences.

Wan asked, "Boss, shall we have a talk with Song Can?"

Li Jian nodded, his expression serious.

"It seems that Song Can is highly suspicious, we need to bring him back to the Criminal Investigation Team for interrogation."

"Understood!"

With that, Li Jian and Wan walked out.

Standing at the door, Mr. Zhang looked a bit surprised.

"Mr. Li, there's still one person in the next office who hasn't been questioned yet."

Li Jian nodded.

"I know, not a single one should be missed."

"This person is very special, must be taken back for detailed interrogation."

"Very special?"

A big question mark appeared on Mr. Zhang's forehead.

What's so special?

However, seeing the serious expressions on Li Jian and Wan's faces, the question that had reached his throat was swallowed back down.

Soon after, Wan pushed open the door to the next office.

Song Can stood up, hurriedly asking, "Is it my turn now?"

Wan walked over, controlling Song Can's left arm, saying, "Indeed, it is your turn."

"However, we might have to change the location for our talk."

"Change the location?"

Song Can looked surprised.

"What do you mean?"

"Come with us to the police station for an investigation."

Song Can turned his head and asked, "Why am I the only one being taken to the police station, while others are questioned here?"

Suddenly, the man's emotions became agitated, he started to be uncooperative, and tried to break free from the arm restraint.

Li Jian stepped forward and quickly controlled his right arm.

"You'd better behave yourself."

"Let me tell you, because you are highly suspicious."

Song Can mumbled something as if wanting to say more, but was already pushed into the police car.

Witnessing this scene, Mr. Zhang was also utterly confused.

He hurriedly caught up, seeing Li Jian off.

Li Jian got in the car, rolled down the window, and said, "Mr. Zhang, before we start, your promise has to be fulfilled."

"Definitely, definitely!"

20 minutes later, in the interrogation room of the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team.

Song Can was already seated on the interrogation bench.

After a brief preparation, Li Jian spoke, "Song Can, do you know why you have been brought here?"

Song Can looked puzzled.

"Officers, I really don't know."

"Today is my first day coming from home to the construction site, and I've been brought here by you all, have I committed a crime?"

Li Jian's face hardened, and he said sternly, "Have you committed a crime or not, don't you have any idea?"

"I honestly don't know what I've done that's against the law?"

"Since you've forgotten, let me help you sort out your memory."

Li Jian said, "Three months ago, Liu Jun fell to his death, you know that, right?"

"I know!"

"A week before his death, you two had a conflict."

As soon as the words fell, Song Can said, "Oh, so it's about this!"

He candidly said, "Indeed, we did argue a bit over a poker game back then."

Song Can opened his eyes wide and said, "He couldn't have committed suicide by jumping because of that, could he?"

"Argued a bit?"

"You make it sound easy!"

"According to our investigation, it wasn't just a small argument."

"There was also a physical altercation between you two."

Li Jian raised his hand and slammed it on the table heavily.

Song Can whispered, "At the time, I lost control and just grappled a bit."

After a brief pause, Li Jian asked solemnly, "On the night of the incident, after you all returned from dining out, everyone went back to the dorm to sleep, where did you go?"

A loud bang shattered the silence in the interrogation room.

Li Jian raised his hand again and slammed it heavily on the table.

Song Can sat across, stunned.

Two minutes later, he raised his head and said, "Officer, I remember now."

"At that time, after returning from dining out, I suddenly felt unwell, had to go to the bathroom!"

"We were living in a shared dormitory without an independent bathroom, had to run a long way to get to one."

"Are you saying you just went to the bathroom?"

"Just went to the bathroom!"

"While going to the bathroom, did anyone see you?"

Song Can instantly looked mournful and said, "It was pitch dark at the time, I remember being alone."

"So, no one can verify you went to the bathroom?"

"When I returned to the dormitory, the other roommates were asleep."

"Then let me ask, did you see Liu Jun at the time?"

"Officers, I was quite drunk at the time, and my head was dizzy. After returning to the dormitory, I simply went to sleep and didn't notice his bed."

After a brief silence, Li Jian said sternly, "I now suspect you are involved in Liu Jun's fall to death."

Song Can shook the handcuffs in his hand, striking the interrogation chair, making a clear "clang clang clang" sound.

He said, "Officer, I have no idea when he died."

"I only heard about his death the next day."

"At that time, we had a disagreement while playing cards, but we reconciled that night over drinks."

"How could I possibly have killed him?"

...

After a series of defenses, Li Jian leaned against his chair and fished out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket.

He took one out and lit it, puffing rings of smoke in front of him.

Wan loudly said, "Confess and be lenient, resist and be strict."

"I advise you to be honest."

"Officer, I'm truly innocent! How could I have killed him?"

Li Jian looked at Song Can and suddenly felt a sense of doubt.

Is he really the murderer?

At the moment, it seems he does have a motive.

He also cannot account for his whereabouts at the crucial time of the crime.

However, based on Li Jian's years of investigation experience, he feels something is missing in pinning Song Can as the killer.

Just as Li Jian was lost in thought, Song Can suddenly spoke, "I know I'm not the murderer, but I suspect Chen Feng is."

Li Jian exhaled a puff of smoke and said, "Why do you think he is the murderer?"

"Because Liu Jun once pursued Chen Feng's wife."

Upon hearing this clue, Li Jian and Wan exchanged looks.

Especially in Li Jian's eyes, a different expression emerged.

"Go on!"

"I remember when the construction site had just started, Chen Feng brought his wife along to work, and she did some odd jobs."

"But Liu Jun, noticing the woman was attractive, started approaching her frequently."

"Chen Feng even warned Liu Jun because of it."

"Moreover, there was a quarrel in the dormitory once."

"Besides you, who else knows about this?"

Song Can replied, "Only I know, because while they were quarreling in the dormitory, I happened to arrive at the dorm entrance."

"Later, Chen Feng's wife left the site and went home soon after."

While speaking, Li Jian was observing Song Can's demeanor.

At least for now, there were no signs of lying.

Images of questioning Chen Feng at the project department quickly surfaced in Li Jian's mind.

Compared to others, Chen Feng was very proactive during police interrogation.

Is it solely because of Mr. Zhang's promise?

Or is there another reason behind it?

Gradually, night enveloped the skies above Jiangcheng.

Jiang An and Zhang Yean were in the forensic office.

"Junior Brother, I heard Mr. Li is interrogating in the interrogation room."

Jiang An sat in front of the computer, looking at the autopsy photos from earlier in the day, and casually asked, "Did they find the suspect so quickly?"

Zhang Yean stirred the coffee in his hand.

"It seems it's a roommate from Liu Jun's dormitory. A week before Liu Jun's death, they had a disagreement while playing cards."

Jiang An set down the magnifying glass and said, "In that case, he really could be the suspect."

"Same dormitory, and they went out together for dinner."

"Understood the deceased's whereabouts that night, plus the motive from the disagreement."

Zhang Yean pursed his lips and said, "But according to Brother Wan, the interrogation has made no progress so far."

"However, Mr. Li isn't aware of the clues we discovered."

Jiang An remained silent and fixed his gaze on the computer screen with the autopsy photos.

Suddenly, Jiang An stopped his actions, noticing the images under the magnifying glass.

It was as if Zhang Yean sensed Jiang An had found something and quickly walked over.

But when he saw the image, he instantly turned his head away.

"This is definitely not suitable for minors."

"Are you really observing the deceased's private area?"

Jiang An was completely absorbed in his world, unaware of Zhang Yean's words.

Seeing Jiang An still leaning in to observe, his eyes seemingly glued to the computer screen.

Zhang Yean gently walked over, patted Jiang An's shoulder, and said, "Junior Brother, is your orientation normal?"

Feeling the gentle touch on his shoulder, Jiang An suddenly turned his head and smiled.

"Totally normal!"

"I just made an important discovery!"

"What discovery?"

Zhang Yean avoided looking directly.

Jiang An pointed with his finger and said, "There are cauliflower-like bumps on the deceased Liu Jun's private area."

"Cauliflower-like bumps?"

Zhang Yean looked bewildered, "What is that?"

Jiang An said, "It's a kind of sexually transmitted disease."

"Historically known as syphilis, nowadays it's referred to as genital warts."

After Jiang An's explanation, Zhang Yean abruptly turned his head and took a glance.

"Could it be that this man's lifestyle isn't decent?"

Jiang An nodded.

"Diseases in such specific areas only form through particular means."

"Also, I just noticed some areas of skin show signs of healing."

"I suspect the virus has been in his body for quite some time."

"And it may well have been treated."

After pondering for a moment, Zhang Yean said, "Does this disease relate to the case?"

Jiang An shook his head and replied, "It's not very clear yet."

"But until the truth is unveiled, any peculiar detail could become a clue to solving the case."

Zhang Yean stirred the coffee in his cup, lost in thought.
