Hunter of Mysterious Creature

Chapter 79: Uninvited Guest

The news about Eternal Night hasn't even officially been announced yet, and people have already started sneaking around like thieves?

Moreover, they've targeted the Mysterious Creature Hunter...

"This is really not afraid of death," Sun Hang couldn't help but sigh softly.

Sun Hang pulled out a key and walked towards the door. Pale mycelium had already spread from under his feet, reaching the door ahead of him and sliding through the gap beneath it.

However, just as the mycelium passed through the door gap, Sun Hang suddenly retracted them all.

"I thought there was a burglar at home, turns out it's just Mr. Wang from next door."

The key slid into the lock, and as the door opened obediently, Sun Hang looked up to see a familiar figure sitting on the couch in the living room. On the table in front of him, there was scattered packaging of opened junk food, with a few empty and crushed beer cans lying on the floor.

"Yo, back already?" Wang Xiyi was wearing an oversized T-shirt, her bare long legs boldly propped up on the table, exposing everything to Sun Hang.

Sun Hang couldn't help but glance—white men's boxer shorts unexpectedly suited this person's style.

"How come you don't use the front door when entering someone else's home?" Sun Hang asked while grabbing a cup of water from the dispenser near the door and taking a sip.

"Between breaking the door and the window, I considered—and breaking the window would have a lower repair cost." Wang Xiyi said as she grabbed another handful of puffed snacks and stuffed it into her mouth.

The TV signal still hadn't been restored, but the previous owner of the house left behind a video player, now playing the classic "Ultraman Tiga." Dagu and Xincheng's plane was once again shot down by monsters.

"Why don't you go back to your own place?"

"I raided the fridge dry, and the personnel responsible for restocking are probably so busy they've forgotten it." Wang Xiyi said naturally, "I guessed you just moved in, and the fridge is probably untouched, so I came to check it out, and I was right."

"Theft is disgraceful."

"In these special times, this house and everything in it are government property, and as a Mysterious Creature Hunter, I have the right to mobilize and use these resources." Wang Xiyi picked up a can of cold beer with droplets on its surface and looked at Sun Hang, "Care for a drink? My treat."

"Thanks, but I don't drink," Sun Hang waved it off, raised his disposable cup, and took another sip.

"Boring," Wang Xiyi opened the beer can and chugged it down.

"I thought you wouldn't be interested in junk food," Sun Hang said. "The first time I saw you, oh wait, that was actually the second time; hadn't you just finished working out? Junk food is the mortal enemy of fitness buffs like you, right?"

"I don't work out to maintain my figure but to relieve stress," Wang Xiyi tossed the empty beer can casually, "Drinking and eating junk food are the same."

"Also, compared to the energy expenditure from your way of fighting, the calories from eating are just a drop in the bucket." Sun Hang walked to the table, picked up half a bag of crispy snacks, "By the way, how about those mysterious creatures that invaded the city?"

"After you guys took care of that big fellow in the sky, they all vanished. I patrolled the areas with lingering creature presence and didn't find any stragglers." Wang Xiyi replied.

"Didn't encounter those lunatics?"

"You mean the group that attacked your vehicles?" Wang Xiyi evidently knew about the attack on Sun Hang's team, "No, I'm solo, and perhaps they mistook me in my beast form for a mysterious creature."

"How are the casualties?"

"Casualties directly because of creatures or thugs were few, but panic led to trampling incidents causing hundreds of victims," Wang Xiyi said with an expressionless face, "but luckily, there's no internet now, so this news won't spread."

"These are just the first batch of victims." Sun Hang put crispy snacks on his fingers, one on each, and ate them all in one go.

"Yes, once 'it gets bright,' everything from the past will be gone," Wang Xiyi opened another can of beer, "Aren't you planning to leave Shuzhou?"

"Why leave?" Sun Hang paused, puzzled.

"You're infected by the {'Taotie'} with the serial number Bing-nine; in any city, you can become part of the elite privileged class, and the very top tier... People will fear you, but they'll also flatter you... After all, in terms of potential growth, few creatures rival {'Taotie'}. For a Hunter with such promising future, the Federation is never stingy with resources."

"Oh... if they don't put me on the dissection table, I'd be grateful." Sun Hang tossed the empty snack bag into the trash and picked up the scattered beer cans off the floor, arranging them neatly on the table, "However promising, we're just tools in their eyes, aren't we?"

"At least you don't have to stay on this sunless land... hic... above it." Wang Xiyi hiccuped, "I'm just a failed experiment, trying to squeeze out my value during the remaining 'valid' period... You, you're different."

"Are you advising me to leave?"

"Just a colleague's advice," Wang Xiyi shrugged, and the collar of her loose T-shirt slipped down to her upper arm, exposing one shoulder.

Sun Hang noticed under the fair skin of Wang Xiyi, faint iron-black scales extended from below the collar bone to the neck.

The beastification process is irreversible, with each transformation; she moves further from being human.

"I think staying here is fine," Sun Hang said. "You said it, the {Taotie}'s greatest trait is its unique growth potential. To become stronger, I must consume enough mysterious creatures... And in the future, Shuzhou will most likely be one of the regions with the highest frequency of mysterious creature appearances in the Xiazhou Federation, right?"

"Remove 'one of'," Wang Xiyi raised a finger, saying.

"If only I could swallow 'Eternal Night' as well," Sun Hang looked out the window, "Too bad it doesn't have a tangible form."

"Wishful thinking," Wang Xiyi suddenly laughed, her smile blossomed like a flower, turning her once-bold brows into delicate willow branches.

Unfortunately, as her facial muscles moved, the scales on her neck became more pronounced.

"The ninth serial-numbered creature wanting to swallow the third serial-numbered one... Why don't you say you want to swallow the sky?" Wang Xiyi laughed as she spoke.

"Swallowing the sky? Sounds pretty awesome," Sun Hang mused, "I'd definitely do it if I get the chance."
