The lunch bell was about to ring. The large training ground was almost empty, the logistic trainees still there, their military posture not so strict, continuing to persevere. The roar of the drill song by the trainees from another program could be heard in the distance...
Among the personnel of the unit, Elvis had a robust physique. Even so, he too was dizzy and exhausted. The relatively weaker female recruits had already been sent to the infirmary - a result of orders given by Feng Yi to the medical staff shortly after he left.
A soldier; a respectable title. The gap between it and a civilian seemed so small yet so far. The process of transformation from a civilian to a soldier is never easy. If one can't even conquer essential military fitness, how is one to talk about the future battlefield?
Observing the scene in front of him, Feng Yi showed a rare smile. Whether it's because everyone was spurred by his words or due to some other reasons, at least, these young people displayed their grit.
"Dismissed!"
Upon hearing the command, the ragged formation of new recruits instantly disintegrated…
At this moment, all the young, vibrant people appeared as listless as deflated balloons. The male recruits took off their jackets, wringing sweat out of them. The females seemed to have forgotten their ladylike demeaner, behaving more like hooligans, stretching their feet out shamelessly upon removing their shoes.
Everyone was too exhausted to lift their head and look at Feng Yi. After a gruelling morning, they were physically spent. Yet, strangely, they felt invigorated and strong. Somehow, their physical constitution was becoming stronger at an astonishing pace!
"Well done, everyone — you all did excellently."
Feng Yi brought his palms together up to his eyebrows, as if silently saluting these determined soldiers, though awkward because he couldn't perform a proper military salute due to his position.
Half of them turned to look at him and saw the instructor transform back into the gentle man from the morning, with a genial demeanor. Only, that warm smile and mysterious aura was more sincere than before, making people unable to resist, unlike the disdain shown in the morning.
Elvis took a step forward, intending to ask about the afternoon's training. Yet, he remembered Feng Yi is now their instructor. With this in mind, he probably won't give them any specifics about the training regimen. On a different note, they could still be friends outside of training hours.
"Buddy, do you have a watch on you? It should almost be time for dinner, right?"
"In about another ten minutes or so. If you have the energy to ask, I suggest you use it to get some rest."
Elvis guiltily scratches his head. After being reprimanded by Feng Yi, he suddenly feels sleepy and rolls all about the ground, laying down and saying, "I am so tired, so sleepy, so miserable, why God? Why does dinner have to be now?" Yet, despite his protest, he falls asleep almost instantly like a hibernating pig.
"Hey, wake up." Feng Yi nudges Elvis a couple of times, and when he doesn't respond he says, "Get up everyone!"
Suddenly, the young man springs up from the ground.
"Oh, you're awake now?"
"Dammit, you're not fair Feng. You're the one that told me to take a nap, and now you're the one waking me up."
Elvis took a swing at Feng Yi, who surrendered, hands raised. "I promise not to do it again."
Their antics made the surrounding cadets burst out laughing...
"Think this is funny, huh? Are you too busy laughing to notice that your belt is undone?" Feng Yi pointed out to another trainee, causing the soldiers to dissolve in laughter once again...
This was what Feng Yi had said before. Apart from the training, he was their friend.
Pretty soon, everyone realised that this mysterious instructor was not as inaccessible as they imagined. Others began to join in the discussion, casually chatting about military matters with Feng Yi...
When confronted with questions, Feng Yi would patiently answer each and every one. Talking about Mechas, he modestly claimed that he was just an amateur but showed a particular fondness for the Phantom Knight 0001. His reasons were simple; that model was the best for honing basic skills.
However, talking about the Shadow Rider 0001 also reminded them about the controversial Revenge Shadow Rider. This makes people wonder, with an instructor as capable as Feng Yi, could he compete with the Revenge Shadow Rider?
Let's be clear, the instructor claimed to only have a basic understanding of Ancient Martial Arts but proved to be incredibly proficient. Likewise, with his supposed slight knowledge of Mecha operations, could he also be a top-tier expert? The group couldn't help but wonder. Feng Yi's response? It's impossible to judge without seeing any actual combat.
In their exchange, they found that this young instructor did not overestimate nor underestimate anyone. He was neither aloof nor weak, but rather, he possessed a humble yet assertive charm. He was easygoing and humorous, always with a witty remark at the ready. Gradually, Feng Yi was growing closer with everyone.
A beautiful figure with black, shiny hair approached. She walked with a steady, light step, and her unique aura made her stand out in the crowd.
"Elvis, we have club activities tonight." Sheng Qiangwei glanced towards Feng Yi. "And Instructor Feng, don't forget to join us."
"Please give me a break today, pretty lady. I was nearly dead tired this morning."
Feng Yi was also a bit speechless at this, "I have just submitted my proposal for dismissal, isn't that enough?"
"Oh, cut it out, it's not about your proposal or anything. Just come tonight."
Having finished, Sheng Qiangwei hurriedly left the training area, as if she was escaping. Recently, every time she saw Feng Yi she seemed to lose her nerve. God, was she becoming infatuated with him just because he helped her once? As a woman, her intuition is typically spot on. Although she doesn't want to admit it, Sheng Qiangwei has begun to notice that she can't help but think of Feng Yi often.
The lunch bell rang, and Feng Yi, with a whistle, started to organize the lines. "Dis...dis...atchoo…dismissed!" He sneezed just before he could finish his sentence. Damn, who is talking about him behind his back?
"Instructor, what should we do next?"
"Hmm, well… of course, you should quickly get to the dining hall. Grab as much meat as you can, the more the better." The law of the survival of the fittest tells Feng Yi that any humbleness when it comes to feeding oneself is foolishness. After training, the body should be treated properly, why leave food for those who would scoff at you?
With that, the recruits scatter in all directions...
"Hey, wait for me, guys."
"Wait for what? Even the instructor said so."
"But..."
"But nothing! The top's got us covered, so we just need to rush in."
Some of the female cadets initially didn't want to run, caring for their image and simply being too tired to do so. But once their excitement reached a certain level, they ran uncontrollably like water breaking through a dam. The excitement was intense, but at least they had Feng Yi backing them up.
"Hey, you guys…" Feng Yi felt as if he had been tricked. He told them to eat, not to run like this. Damn, they weren't still holding a grudge over morning drills, were they?
