Once back at his place, the periodic chilly wind that seeped in through the window only served to amplify the stark coldness of the empty room.
Thump, thump, thump... The hurried footsteps outside the door gave way to the adorable Guo Guo, doll in hand, as she burst into the room. "Mommy bought red apples, I'm giving big brother one," she declared."
Generously holding an apple up to Feng Yi, Guo Guo waited for him to take it. Feng Yi took a moment to look at the apple before shifting his eyes back to Guo Guo. Her rosy cheeks bore a striking resemblance to the apple.
"Here, this is for Guo Guo. Big brother will get you more toys in the future too."
Feng Yi patted Guo Guo on the head before taking out an assembly robot from his Space Crystal. He shoved some money into Guo Guo's pocket with an uncensorable tone that implored the child to believe him, claiming it was in the name of Optimus Prime.
Watching the little girl stumble off, Feng Yi sighed softly. Life was already tough for the mother and daughter, especially for the clumsy Guo Guo, who always wrung his heart just by being. If possible, he wouldn't hold anything back from offering a helping hand to them.
As usual, at dawn, the resounding call sign of Wind Thunder echoed through the entire barracks area. Today was the day Feng Yi would act as a substitute instructor for his first lesson. As a Wind Thunder Mecha Department student, Feng Yi would serve as the logistical assistant instructor, which meant that he no longer had to take the assessment in three months - he had already passed by exemption.
Sitting in the lecture hall, Feng Yi was lost in his thoughts. He glanced over to see a girl and ended up unintentionally focusing on her chest, earning him an offended glare and an immediate accusation of being a lowly loser.
After leaving the lecture hall, the formation was already lined up. Aldrich's strong voice suddenly boomed, "At ease, stand up! Right dress, eyes forward, count off."
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, full strength."
"Good." Aldrich nodded in satisfaction, "Cadets, as per the upper management's arrangement, today, a new instructor temporarily leads this group—he is among you. He has proven his abilities to the management. Honestly, I wasn't convinced initially, but after hearing some of his stories, I was swayed."
Could it be true? They were already changing leaders so fast? More importantly, it was someone among the students. A audible murmur burst from the crowd...
"Stop!"
Aldrich's stern admonition instantly silenced the chatter, "During this time, I'll be a bystander. I've enjoyed getting to know you all while you were just a bunch of cadets. But I believe, in the future, you'll be a group of warriors who can stand on your own."
Aldrich's words resonated with the cadets. A few of the girls almost started crying. They couldn't care less about these new instructors. All they cared about was Aldrich.
"Instructor, we don't want you to leave."
"Yeah, we only recognize one instructor." People are peculiar creatures. Even when being scolded, they still take pleasure in the attention.
"Stop! Soldiers either obey or disobey, there is no middle ground. Any semblance of disobedience can pack up and leave. I don't want to hear you sulking in disgust with your badges after gaining some rank-farting rust—Feng Yi, step out."
When Feng Yi stepped out from the squad and saw who was approaching, the girl instantly stopped crying and hitting up a fuss. Her expression transformed multiple times. It was the guy who she just scolded as an idiot. And now, just after a while, he was an instructor? She wished she could hide somewhere in regret.
"From now on, this young man is your instructor, got it?"
"Yes…"
"Did you have breakfast this morning? Soldiers are needed in the army, not sobbing ladies. Got it?
"Yes!"
"I didn't hear you, say it louder!"
"Yes!"
"Louder!"
"Yes!"
"Even louder! I can't hear you!"
"Yes…"
At this moment, no one was more surprised than Elvis. He found it hard to understand how Feng Yi could just brazenly become an instructor? Regardless of how powerful he might be, and even though he had easily defeated disciplinary committee members, it didn't mean that he could perform this job. But, no matter what, at a time like this, he felt like rooting for his friend. He cheered the loudest among the group.
Only after the cadets' sky-breaking cheers could be heard, did Aldrich nod in satisfaction. He then took a step back, grinning. He was supposed to leave, now he was even more interested and looking towards Feng Yi. "Instructor Feng, this squad is now yours." Aldrich gestured towards Feng Yi, wanting to see for himself how exceptional this young man was, someone the higher-ups strongly recommended.
Feng Yi nodded and slowly started to walk around the squad's formation. His deep gaze lingered on every cadet…
"At ease."
The cadets breathed a sigh of relief, standing for so long had been uncomfortable.
"I'm going to introduce myself now, I am Feng Yi, your training instructor from now on. You can ask me anything about the training in the future. Off the record, you can call me by my name or treat me as your friend, it's all up to you. I've said what I wanted to say, so…"
Feng Yi paused for a few seconds; his eyes became a lot more serious when he looked at the crowd. He slowly reached into his pocket.
Undoubtedly, everyone guessed that the new instructor was giving out benefits. Why? The reason was simple, to win over the cadets, he would need to show off his rewards. Just because Instructor Aldrich could scold them, didn't mean they could do the same. Feng Yi? Heh, did he even know how old he was, let alone how many people believed him?
As expected, Feng Yi pulled an item out of his pocket, but it wasn't for the cadets; it was for himself. A Physics Encyclopedia.
His serious expression and the way he unfurled the book like hazarding a great enemy, what on earth was he doing? Could it be that he doesn't know anything about military tactics and instead decided to confront the crowd with his academic knowledge? This guy was a genius indeed! The squad burst out laughing, even Feng Yi himself couldn't help but join in.
"Oh my, this is going to be a headache," Feng Yi appeared to be worried about the book he just pulled out. "But let's do it this way — returning where we left off, so… does anyone question my abilities or my strength? Feel free to challenge me."
"Heehee, I want to test the instructor's skills," responded the girl who called Feng Yi a 'loser' that morning. Her request for a challenge, surprisingly, was a singing competition.
This was a clear attempt to give a hard time to Feng Yi. As he stared around in confusion, the entire squad broke out into laughter again. Subtly, the crowd started whispering, pointing fingers at Feng Yi…
Aside from a few people, including Elvis, it seemed odd for Feng Yi to be such an easily victimized sheep. Feng Yi was normally so adept at handling whatever came his way. Was he going to remain helpless at this special time? At least if it had been Elvis, he wouldn't have left such a glaring vulnerability in his own defense.
Feng Yi suggested, "Let's change the course of action, like going for military or something else?"
"No, I want to sing." The girl was pleased with herself; it was clear she was thinking, 'As long as I am good at singing, I'll always have the upper hand.'
