Feng Yi was willing to take on the role, leaving Grand unsure of what to critique. In this dilapidated military area, effectiveness was often determined by one's ability to produce results. While strength certainly held notable importance, it was not the sole measure of an instructor's competence. An excellent instructor should possess a solid knowledge of professional military training. Truth be told, strength only accounted for a small fraction of this equation.
At the very least, said instructor must demonstrate exceptional communication skills, outstanding leadership abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of military basics. Only by possessing these qualities can one properly instruct apprentices with targeted training guidance. Despite this seeming like a straightforward requirement, the intricate nature of such skills makes it no less challenging than the duties of a commander.
Grand had trouble understanding the old man's intentions. Despite this, he was willing to have faith in Feng Yi. A child raised by the mentor Lasso was not anyone ordinary after all. Perhaps Weirbo chose to trust Feng Yi largely due to this factor.
"Feng Yi, do you understand military training guidance? Do you want someone to show you the ropes over a couple of days of professional training?"
"That won't be necessary. I have a rudimentary understanding of it already," replied Feng Yi. His extensive reading on related subjects had prepared him with an understanding of what to do and what not to do in this position.
If Feng Yi claimed to have a marginal understanding of a subject, in nine out of ten instances, he was being modest. Picking up on this, Grand ceased his questioning and offered, "If you face any difficulties during your term, feel free to approach me directly."
"With my old man around, there's no need to bother you. Lad, if anything comes up, just come find me in the office building. If I'm not around, you can ask Zi Mou directly. While Angelina won't be partaking in any school activities, Zi Mou still carries considerable authority."
"You old fogey... don't act as if you own Wind Thunder Academy. After all, you're merely the dean of the academy's freshman facility."
Zi Mou, who had held her silence until this point, grew unsatisfied upon hearing the old man's words, "Don't even think about it. Find someone else instead. I won't have the free time."
What a joke, a fellow who enrolled late and has only been around for a few days now commands an official teaching position. Has he passed the instructor's assessment? Does he have any teaching experience? It's utter nonsense.
Feng Yi was slightly embarrassed. Truth be told, he was roped into this whole situation by the two of them. Stepping back, he considered whether this position was the right fit for him. He wanted to explore the idea of imparting professional soldier skills in his own way. If it didn't suit him, he didn't hesitate in packing up and leaving. Why couldn't this woman understand that?
Grand shook his head, not wanting to quibble over this issue any longer, "It's getting late. Let's head back to the school for the evening sum-up."
In this collective sum-up, the head instructor would allot time for a collective critique of all new students in the academy, followed by words of praise. This whole incident played a ceremonial role. As far as the performance of the students was concerned, the head instructor in name wasn't entirely in the loop either. However, under no circumstance could he voice good words regarding the ordeal.
Upon the return to the school, Grand shared some insights and then dismissed the group.
The students were all somewhat deflated. But as soon as the bell rang for the end of the day at Wind Thunder Academy, the oppressive mood instantly lifted.
The founding day of the Martial Art Society marked an important occasion for a society meeting. With the exception of Feng Yi, the members were all present. This meeting served in equal parts to facilitate the organization the society and to welcome the two new members. "Xia Xin, Xia Qi, come up here and introduce yourselves."
Greeted by lackadaisical clapping from Elvis and the hefty kid...
Xia Xin stood up, "My name is Xia Xin. I come from Big Macs. I'm the elder sister of the two."
Just as she was about to sit down, Sheng Qiangwei added, "Aren't you going to say a bit more? For example, your interests, hobbies, etc…?"
"Well, about my personality... it's pretty average. I don't particularly like or dislike anything and I don't have many hobbies. There are a few things that matter to me, is that okay?"
She had effectively said a whole lot of nothing. Sheng Qiangwei twitched her pretty face and gestured for her to sit down. It was then Xia Qi's turn for self-introduction. Similar to her sister's response: a common girl, lived according to routines, mediocre marks, no friends other than family members, but also never thought about making friends. Knowing Sir Feng might count as one, joining the Martial Art Society wasn't anything she planned and she hadn't thought about her future plans.
Their vague life goals made the hefty kid laugh out loud... Even Elvis shook his head in disbelief. God, why does a young girl sound like a salted fish?
Sheng Qiangwei shot the hefty kid a cold glance. As the society head, she had no idea what to say. Smiling nonetheless, she openly gestured Xia Qi to sit down.
Just then, Feng Yi suddenly entered.
At his arrival, both the hefty kid and Elvis stopped watching Star Wars videos. Hell, where had this brat sneak off to for an afternoon's recreation?
Upon spotting Xia Xin and Xia Qi, Feng Yi, without acknowledging the chubby boy's surprise, exclaimed in disbelief, "It's you..."
"Sir Feng." The two sisters chorused in response.
"Why are you two here?"
"Uh, is it strange for us to be here?" asked the elder sister, Xia Xin.
"Ahem, it's your freedom to be wherever you want. But from now on, don't call me 'sir' anymore."
"I hadn't given that much thought for how we addressed you." Xia Xin made a puzzled expression, "We called you Sir Feng out of habit. Back on Colonial Planet, that's how many people referred to you, and we picked it up over time."
Xin's earnestness left Feng Yi at a loss for words. During his stay on Colonial Planet, Feng Yi had been completely unaware of the two unobtrusive women's existence: "Right, your names are…"
"Xia Xin."
"Xia Qi."
"And your reason for joining the society?"
"To repay Sir Feng." Xia Qi spoke as though it were a matter of fact, "There must always be some chores to attend to within the society, right? So here we are, is there a problem with that?"
Not that, Feng Yi was almost pounding his head against the wall. He was someone who disliked trouble. But somehow, he felt that things were getting more and more out of hand. Not only did the sisters enroll into Wind Thunder Academy at the same time as him, they also joined the Martial Art Society. Given their frail stature, it seemed they would have a hard time coping with society.
"You can go now. There's no need for you to stay here. I don't need anyone's gratitude. Using another's money to avert disaster, we're even after that incident." Feng Yi sternly articulated.
Sheng Qiangwei fell silent. For students who don't care for Martial Arts, joining the Martial Art Society was genuinely unnecessary.
But the chubby kid and Elvis disagreed. Wasn't there a consensus that it's everyone's right to choose where to go? In this free and democratic space, Feng Yi's action was undoubtedly going to antagonize like-minded individuals. Interest in arts could be cultivated. If the girls left, where could they find more? These two confusing sisters were undoubtedly an enormous benefit - naive, gently cared for, they never overthink situations and were easy to guide.
"I fervently object - we should strictly prevent this kind of authoritarianism in our society." Elvis, while speaking, kept glancing at his mobile phone.
Feng Yi was to appear before the public as an instructor the following day. He also had to prepare his training plans. There was no time to waste here, "Chairperson, if this meeting was called solely for this matter, I've stated my position. So, I'm leaving now."
