Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 729: Under the Starry Sky

The Blaze Fleet was growing rapidly, and Feng Yi paid quite a bit of attention to the addition of space pirates, even harboring the faint idea of turning the tide through this method. Right, he still didn't know their current location. Feng Yi randomly stopped a Lieutenant to ask where they were.

The Lieutenant looked bewildered, thinking that the Legion Commander was testing his professional knowledge, and deliberately looked for something to say, "Report, reporting to the general, this is the primary fleet of the Blaze Legion's trinity cockpit."

Feng Yi felt embarrassed, supporting his forehead with one hand and wearing an expression that something was terribly wrong, "Cough, I was asking for our current interstellar coordinates."

Actually, one couldn't blame the Lieutenant. Who would have thought that the Legion Commander would stay cooped up in his room for half a month like a cloistered maiden, "General, our forces are currently in the Twin Planet near Behe-3."

Behe-3 wasn't in the Republic of Zana's territory? Feng Yi was taken aback and immediately asked the military adviser to draw up a detailed map of interstellar coordinates from the Devil star cluster to here. They might have accidentally fallen into a superimposed interstellar space during their escape, but after knowing the interstellar coordinates of the previous days had been drawn up, Feng Yi finally felt somewhat relieved.

It seemed, however, that this division had become somewhat of a hybrid due to the involvement of the space pirates. The current Blaze Legion both had the air of a regular force and a strong whiff of desperate space pirates. Seeing their battered ship hulls, it was clear they were far from the Federal Army. Yet the Blaze warriors didn't mind at all, seemingly proud and tirelessly amused.

Indeed, isn't it miserable to go from a regular force to robbing space pirates? But then again, times change. Feng Yi didn't think that it was indelible to scrounge and deceive. First of all, they all fought for an ideal, and as for integrity, well, it's just so-so.

Secondly, space pirates are also human beings. In Feng Yi's eyes, there was never any distinction between high and low, and the so-called nobles and peasants, superiors and inferiors, were merely frivolous rules established by ambitious people trying to satisfy their own desires during their mundane pursuits.

In just half a month, this poor, half-dead legion seemed to have been infused with new blood. The space pirates on this path had almost been robbed clean, and continuing like this clearly wasn't feasible. Moreover, for the addition of space pirates, there was a transformation process from pirate to soldier, involving both mind and body - a long process, not just about expanding the numbers, because after all, you can't become fat with just one bite.

Feng Yi observed these space pirates, or rather the reserve Blaze Legion warriors, for a morning and found that the first batch he had hijacked half a month ago had fundamentally changed from the ones who just joined.

From the way they walked, to their attire, from their military demeanor to their speech and complexion, it seemed everyone was gradually getting used to being here, considering it as a new environment, and trying to integrate and adapt to its rules.

Feng Yi noticed some people who even went to the logistics department to deduct their future position allowance in advance, bought cigarettes from the military store, and then sneakily lit one up. Seeing Feng Yi dressed in casual clothes, leaning against the wall with a stalk of grass in his mouth watching them, the man thought Feng Yi was part of the new pirate batch and defiantly pulled a face at him, then confidently shook his cigarette and walked away tapping his rear—met by the same fierce glare from Feng Yi, who wasn't scared at all.

However, it must be said that this group was indeed adapting to the Blaze Legion's rules. Yes, when they found the environment agreeable, they convinced themselves subconsciously to adapt. For this group, aside from the daily training schedule being a bit more intensive and demanding, there wasn't much difference. They hadn't found anything worse than the life of a space pirate.

After all, space pirates didn't have a stable food source, and their hierarchical conditions were even harsher than the military's. Maybe after struggling to survive on a pirate ship for ten years, you're still just cannon fodder, and whilst minor leaders can maintain a semblance of control, they can also be easily disposed of with just a word. Whenever a leader gets reprimanded, those below are in for bad luck.

But the military is different, it's more principled here. These space pirates even found that on weekends they could have a little drink, listen to some old Blaze warriors boast, and most importantly, they had a future and no longer needed to live in fear, unlike before.

Indeed, born on a pirate ship, you must always be on edge because there are many ways to die there - you could be beaten to death by a boss, backstabbed by a colleague, blown to pieces by the military, starve to death if you can't find food, or you might disappear forever in the vast expanse of space due to a malfunction in the ship, or even get hit by a random meteorite or have your ship damaged by high-energy particles. In short, anything you can or can't imagine happening can happen on a pirate ship. Those who live in cities and fantasize about pirate life have no idea how dark it really is.

Compared to those hardships, the daily 5-kilometer exercise in the military, though tiresome, really wasn't that big of a deal. There was no clique formation in the military, grievances were out in the open, unresolved issues could lead to a one-on-one fight in the ring, and after a brawl, it was back to brotherhood. There was no bullying because, if one person bullied others, many would bully them back. If trouble arose, you could go to your squad leader, who, if unable to resolve it, would escalate it to the platoon leader, company commander, battalion commander, or even the hot-tempered but straightforward Big Brothers Fire Wolf and Gunpowder Keg. They were approachable, occasionally setting up drinks and snacks to mediate disputes among soldiers. And if that wasn't enough, wasn't there always Officer John to back you up?
