"On the outskirts of the camp site, the intermittent gunfire from the shooting range could faintly be heard, while the loud military orders echoing from the training field seemed to shoot straight into the sky!
In one corner of the training field, the logistics students stood solemnly. The troops were far more ruthless than anyone had anticipated, turning their backs on them without a second thought, which was utterly frustrating and regrettable.
Aldrich's gaze, filled with years of harsh battles, swept across the students… Only at this moment could one see a trace of pride on this professional soldier's face. The battlefield was cruel; as a seasoned veteran, the first lesson Aldrich taught wasn't just the military formations but the value of life itself.
Now, to make these rookies understand the true meaning of being a soldier: "I firmly believe that you are all very brave, but your courage lacks honesty. To help you recognize your own deficiencies and to enhance each soldier's physical fitness, I will do my utmost to train you." His voice was resolute and powerful: "Everyone, on my command, stand at ease, stand upright, turn right, march."
As his words finished, a synchronized march echoed across the ground…
"Feng Yi, go report to the head instructor. He asked for you by name." Aldrich's gaze was somewhat strange. He left Feng Yi with a meaningful look before promptly catching up with the marching team.
Called out? He simply needed to follow orders. Accompanied by the envious stares of many freshmen, Feng Yi swiftly arrived at the academic building after leaving the training field.
The numerous-story academic building was massive, but luckily, there was a lovely female soldier serving as receptionist. Through her guidance, he took the elevator to the 53rd floor.
As he was pondering whether to knock and announce his name, after weighing his options, he sighed and chose to enter the room.
Without any reservation, he immediately took a seat on the comfy sofa. Why, you may ask? The reason was simple. Why stand when there were chairs? It was free time, and he was not yet a soldier, so he didn't have to follow any military regulations. Exaggeration aside, Feng Yi's military skills were second to none, and this alone gave him a significant standing as a student.
Indeed, Feng Yi planned to seize this opportunity to join the Mecha Department. Competing through the Martial Arts Club to draw attention from the school was too slow. If he were to act like a rebellious student and consequently be subjected to ideological education by the higher-ups, then showing his expertise during a backlash would be much a quicker way.
Surprisingly, there were five people in the room, including Grand, Zi Mou, Headmaster Weirbo, and two fully-armed soldiers.
What left Feng Yi puzzled was the atmosphere. His unorthodox behavior hadn't drawn any criticism from the instructors, either from Grand or Headmaster Weirbo. Their gaze towards Feng Yi all seemed rather complex, with the only exception being Zi Mou's serious expression, her beautiful eyes seemingly trying to see through him.
Grand put out his cigarette and said, "Feng Yi, you're under arrest."
"Hmm?" Feng Yi's sharp eyes grew intense: "What do you mean?"
"You have the right to remain silent."
Two soldiers promptly stepped in from outside, handcuffed Feng Yi, blindfolded him with a white cloth, and took him out of the room.
Zi Mou, who had just arrived, was taken aback. She had just mentioned Feng Yi to Grand, and now he was being treated like this. "Colonel Grand, this is…"
Grand made a stopping gesture to prevent Zi from asking further: "Headmaster Weirbo, his identity is quite suspicious, isn't it?"
The headmaster simply nodded in acquiescence, not saying a word.
Just like that, Feng Yi was escorted out of the room by two soldiers. Not knowing how far they had gone with their constant turning left and right, the empty hallway only echoed with their distinct footsteps…
After a while, the trio entered an elevator. Feng Yi could feel the car moving both up and down. After a dozen or so seconds, they exited the elevator, then entered another one, and then exited again. As a heavy metallic noise echoed, it felt like he had been brought into an interrogation chamber, and then forcefully made to sit in a chair and fitted with various torture devices.
"Where am I, who are you, and why have you captured me?"
"Haha… No wonder you easily defeated the Discipline Committee members; your mind is clear. Even during interrogation, you still want to familiarize yourself with the environment, understand your situation, and estimate the positions of both parties." A voice devoid of any emotion echoed; its volume kept changing, sometimes near, sometimes far.
"So, what's your answer?"
"I will not answer any of your questions. You must only answer mine. Before I ask you, you may remain silent. Any unnecessary exchanges will only increase your suffering."
"Go ahead, ask. I have nothing to hide."
"Your name."
"Feng Yi."
"Nationality."
"Atlantis Free Federation."
"Parents."
"None."
"Hobbies."
"Many."
"In specific?"
"Stargazing, mechas, military, combat, drinking, just about everything."
"How did you gain such skills?"
"Growth and experience."
"Where did those experiences take place?"
"Colonial Planet 103."
After a long while, the electronic voice asked again: "Your name."
"Feng Yi."
Just as he responded, Feng Yi was hit with a surge of electricity flooding his body. Even someone with his physical constitution couldn't help but experience intense numbness.
"Your nationality."
"Atlantis Free Federation."
As soon as he finished his sentence, another wave of electricity washed over him, stronger than before, causing his forehead to bead with sweat…
"Your parents."
"None."
The electric shock seemed to have little effect on a super soldier like him. In an instant, a silver needle was driven into the front part of his finger bone. A moment later, a heart-wrenching pain spread throughout his body, an intensity beyond any human's tolerance.
The voice started asking questions faster: "Your hobbies."
"Many."
"Specify."
"Everything." This time, there was no torture after his answer.
"Why do you have such terrifying strength?"
"Experience."
A tearing pain suddenly shot through Feng Yi's body, as if something had ripped him open.
"Don't tell me, again, it's Colonial Planet 103?"
"Yes."
As soon as he finished speaking, a chunk of steel weighing a ton mercilessly smashed onto Feng Yi's toes. It seemed that something from above was slowly pressing onto the block of metal, until a crunching sound signaled the breaking of his toes. Even someone with Feng Yi's durable bone structure couldn't resist such pressure.
A cold voice echoed, like a cage slowly enclosing his will, "You should be aware of how much pain your body can bear. Lying will only hasten your death; your fate is in your own hands. I admire your psychological quality; your heart rate fluctuation has remained within a minimal range from the start. At the same time, I am quite curious how long you can hold on."
The electronic voice gradually faded. Slowly, an overwhelming heat mixed with smoke began to envelop Feng Yi. Initially, when the smoke entered his nostrils, there was no reaction. But as the temperature gradually rose, Feng Yi also began to respond…
