Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 560: Unrestrained_1

Regarding the appearance of the Black Devils over the Sky Administrative District, the Federation's response seemed rather unfriendly. Hence, Kanmaier decided to greet the incoming legion his own way. With a snap of his fingers, the camera operator provided a succession of extremely handsome close-ups of Kanmaier. Suddenly, a gargantuan black mecha appeared on the screen, firing three rounds into the city without hesitation, and the residual explosion soared into the sky like raging black smoke...

Through the live broadcast, at least tens of thousands of eyes simultaneously recognized the location portrayed in the scene. It was the southern hemisphere's Val Temple-- a place that had been redeemed by God. Was this some sort of live broadcast for the sake of increasing civil security awareness?

In the light screen, a swarm of Black Devil Mechanized legions were rushing towards the nearest city. Their speeds were breathtaking and their ranks astoundingly coordinated. No one would think ill of these highly-skilled soldiers.

Amidst public astonishment, sirens echoed across major cities, broadcasters hastily issued first-tier air raid alerts, and the stunned crowds finally understood that this was the feared Black Devil Legion - the terrifying source of all the world's ills.

Originally, the Black Devil's jurisdiction was in the southern hemisphere but out of sight, out of mind. The civilians in the square thought very little of it, and their chatter grew increasingly heated with discussions of why these devils would brazenly invade the Federation. Many men jumped onto the magnetic levitation platform, pointing at the light screen and shouting obscenities at the air-defense weapons, challenging the military to a one-on-one duel.

Various Bounty Tribes began to rally themselves, preparing their armed forces to assist the Val Temple. The Sky Government also issued a message of reassurance to the public about Advanced Super Soldiers providing support.

Supposedly, the Super Soldier, Sky Shadow, was already en route to provide aid in the southern hemisphere on the Destiny spacecraft. The truth, however, was that Sky Shadow was still tucked away inside his room, riveted by the live broadcast. He wasn't rushing off; on the contrary, he was carefully observing the Black Devil Legion's signature style. He knew they were his stepping stone to greatness. He knew that he'd swoop in as a savior when his country needed him the most. Now, however, was not the time.

Meanwhile, in the real world, the Black Devil Legion had already reached Val Temple, i.e., the Sky Relief Center, where Athena's charity concert was held, even before the Federation could get its act together.

Few people were still walking around on the streets. A ground-shaking rumble reverberated, followed by a shockwave that flipped everything in its path, reducing oblivious pedestrians to ashes within seconds and engulfing them into a sea of flames. This horrifying sight was broadcasted live. Women covered their children's eyes, men stopped shouting, and everyone looked dazed...

The various sectors of the Federation had been informed about the situation through the broadcast. The government was the first to know, followed by the various Bounty Tribes, Sheng Qiangwei was a top intelligence officer of the Freedom Bounty Tribe, and she was utterly terrified by the sight before her, God, what was the local government up to?

God knows! The local government was left speechless due to its actions. Now they were desperately trying to cut the broadcast, but they were far too late. With such a crackdown, the pushback would be so strong that it could lead to a chain reaction, intensifying frustration among the citizens, and could even lead to riots. It was a desperate situation.

Everyone knew Val Temple was not guarded by any military forces. By the time the fastest support could reach there, it would already have been 50 minutes, by which time the crisis would be over.

The moment the bombardment started, the entire city was doomed. Buildings collapsed amidst the Devil's destructive rampage and, in minutes, the surrounding kilometers turned into scorched wasteland, burying a girl who had been waiting in front of the Star Wars Division office under the rubble.

Countless citizens began panicking and scattering, some hiding in air-raid shelters or fleeing further away, others killed by the main weapons of the legion, turned to dust. Lastly, the Black Devil Legion stopped at the Sky Relief Center, pulling each person from the crowd one by one, and executed them.

Many Federation citizens couldn't bear to watch anymore, men shed tears and some women even screamed in despair. Their friends and family were in that city. Athena, always the calm one, watched on in horror. The evil men on screen were causing her slender body to shake with fear... and for what? But she didn't cry. The tears wouldn't solve anything. She would respond to this evil with resilience and voice her anger. She felt her vision blur, whether it was her tears or something else...

This heinous act raged on, and under the threat of violence, Kanmaier was sorting through the crowd within the oval-shaped refuge of the Relief Center, selecting the next victims. Describing the scene as anything less than a bloodbath would be an understatement. But not everyone feared death. After witnessing hundreds of bodies dropping around her, a trembling white-collar woman showed defiance. She was beautiful, but she'd rather die than undress at Kanmaier's command.

Kanmaier looked intrigued. He enjoyed a fiery spirit. A masked man in black forcefully ripped off the woman's clothes revealing her pale body.

Kanmaier scrutinized her, as if silently questioning "what would you do now?" He then checked the time. 40 minutes left. 40 minutes was enough to destroy half of the temple city. It was going to be a grand feast of slaughter, and he intended to have everyone witness it.

As the woman struggled to break free, she was physically inferior to the well-built criminal in black, mildly relieved to find Kanmaier acting somewhat gentlemanly and letting her go.

When the woman turned in confusion towards Kanmaier, she was met with a cold bullet to the forehead. She stumbled onto the ground, fluttered her eyes for a few seconds and was silent forever.

People in the Relief Center backed away as a group. The man was a beast, deserving of damnation. But they ended up merely as spectators unable to oppose him. These weren't your average criminals. They were formidable even when out of their mech suits.
