Pushing the Limits
"That's enough, big sister, your words leave me speechless," Feng Yi thought, wondering if he would be executed by the old Federalist scholars after eloping with the 'little girl'.
He and Noah, let's just say they were together. After quickly arriving at Mardis, they went to the secret base. Because of Noah's unique identity, a fake one was temporarily created for her. She was called Noel, a female agent from the Federal Intelligence Bureau. Her personal combat power was 1800, and she had an encyclopaedic level of knowledge, there's no better way to put it.
Just returned to the base, the news was passed to the eldest elder, who hurriedly found Feng Yi with John and several others. It turns out that since yesterday, Saudi had intensified efforts to clear the border. The restrictions that Bergheide placed on the Federation have left Saudi free to rigorously purge the border. This has a lot to do with the Alpha battle.
From a children's TV program, they learned that the FCA was not doing well in this battle. The Diya Alliance had already lost 7 planets consecutively, along with 2 resource planets of the Federation. As time went on, if Barbados, which served as the springboard, continued to fall, they would likely be isolated in Mardis and cut off from support.
The resistance force is no longer a motley crew living day by day. They now have a sense of belonging and longing for a future life. They are unaccepted Federation soldiers, no longer considering simply killing a few imperial soldiers for a meal. Rather, they think about their role in the war and returning to their new homeland with their honors.
Hearing this, Feng Yi felt a sinking feeling. Fortunately, he brought Noah ahead of time. Otherwise... But equally, if Noah were caught, it would be a devastating blow to the Federation.
He signaled to everyone not to panic. He was also anxious, but as a legion commander, he can't certainly show it. He laughed and said, "No worries. This terrestrial planet is so big that it can't just fall into enemy hands. I have a plan — John, give me a detailed map of Mardis."
"Yes sir." Feng Yi was the backbone of the resistance now. Seeing him confident alleviated the pressure for everyone. After saluting, John asked Feng Yi with a silly grin if he had a plan.
Go away, Feng Yi brushed him off and introduced Noah to everyone instead. Then he went into the tent alone to plan.
While the situation was urgent, with Noah's presence, Feng Yi was not worried about the resistance group, but considered how to grow this unformed collective. In the marathon against time, gaining intelligence and improving the average quality of the soldiers became top priorities.
Luckily, when he returned to the federation yesterday, the first thing he thought of was to buy many Virtual Combat Machines. Although it's a case of sharpening the sword right on the battlefield, it's the only thing he could do.
After all, the rainforest only serves as a natural barrier for habitat, and can't support Mech warriors to practice in real conditions. This is equivalent to blowing their cover, which would nullify all their efforts.
The next day, all the soldiers received an exciting mission. They would use the Virtual Combat Machines for combat training. The first three days were focused on mastering basic movements, regardless if they were rookies or veterans.
After three days, they would engage in individual fights. Feng Yi, as the instructor, gave a summary every night. On the sixth day, in team battles, the supercomputer Noah became the collective enemy of the resistance; even Feng Yi was usually defeated by Noah in one-on-one fights, with only two victories so far.
This frustrated him a lot. It wasn't that Feng Yi wasn't strong, but that Noah, in fights against Feng Yi, avoided the occurrence of many unpredictable situations.
Time was running out faster and faster. During the day, Feng Yi often went out alone to listen to information about the surrounding resistance armies. He needed to gather forces continuously. In merely two weeks, imperial soldiers have swept from the northern hemisphere to the middle area.
The resistance lacked valid credentials and were not allowed to surrender. A few individuals retreated from the northern hemisphere to the southern region, while those Mech soldiers who did not escape became the ashes in the war fire, were captured and thrown into prison awaiting trial, and had it worse, were directly executed on the spot.
There were some strong individuals among them, luckily. One man named Takla, who had strengths close to a Red Cloak pilot, fought back locally due to the Empire's indifference in dispatching aces to clean up Mardis.
Indirectly, this saved Feng Yi valuable time. He even felt somewhat grateful to Takla. With Noah's help, Feng Yi who was secretly observing, quickly made contact with Takla and stated his intention.
"A special mission from the Federation..." Looking into Feng Yi's eyes, Takla was somewhat surprised. He finally declined with a shake of his head, "I will not cooperate with you. Leave, you and your comrades. The fall of Mardis is just a matter of time. Once Barbados is breached, it will be hard to escape."
"Maybe, so, you're not planning to leave?" Feng Yi tentatively asked.
"Well, I have long been prepared. I hope to see the blue sky here for a while longer." Takla had foreseen the outcome since learning the report from outside the realm. Maybe dying on the battlefield, on this land, was his destined ending. He didn't discuss the war with Feng Yi, but at the other end of the Heavenly Communication, he asked many questions related to life. Like what a super mecha looked like, and what life was like in a warless Federation?
