Merchants are known for wooing customers, not turning them away. Feng Yi asked the uncle how he knew he was a traveler.
"By the sound of your voice."
By his voice alone, it was obvious he wasn't a local, more proof that the uncle, a mechanic, was extraordinarily experienced. Although Feng Yi had heard from passers-by that the owner of Big Head Autoshop was a renowned mechanic in the area known as Iron Hand Big Head, he hadn't expected him to be so perceptive. Patting the heavy Clapping Tiger: "Can this tank be repaired?"
"What model?"
"Anti-tank Clapping Tiger."
I say, the Clapping Tiger doesn't sound as stupid as it looks, even though it does look stupid. But its 200 caliber can turn a mobile warrior into scrap in an instant. Its reputation as a heavy tank destroyer is well-earned, making it quite threatening.
Upon hearing this, Big Head stopped working, stood up, and looked at Feng Yi. After inspecting the tank and finding several problems, like a lightly damaged turret, practically broken tracks, and heavy impact damage to the body that couldn't have been caused by a monster, Big Head's eyes flashed with an ephemeral brilliance: "Young man, how did this tank end up in such a dire state? I'd like to know the specifics."
It was clear that Big Head was somewhat wary and was testing the waters with his words. If he did indeed fix the tank, and Feng Yi's enemy came looking for him, what would happen? Seeing that the other party knew the ropes, Feng Yi didn't bother hiding anything and stated outright that the tank was damaged in battle, but not in this system and not during the local conflicts. More importantly, the overriding repair issue wasn't the tank body but the hardware, and if possible, he hoped to install a new C device.
The C device is part of core system of the Intelligent Brain with an extremely complex structure. Even the Blade Warrior would likely need some time to tinker with it.
Big Head heard this and laughed heartily, "Young man, you're quite straightforward -- well, changing the C device isn't impossible. But you should know, given the economic backwardness on Bull Planet, it wouldn't be a brand-new one if I did install it. Would that be a problem?"
"As long as the device works normally, I have no problem."
"Okay, now let's talk about trade terms. For one seven-color bird and..." Big Head gestured the number eight with his hand.
"I'm fine with the seven-color bird, but as for the money..." Feng Yi held up two fingers.
Uncle: "Young man, at most I'll let you go down to seven."
Feng Yi: "I can only afford three at most."
Uncle clenched his teeth: "Six, six it is. That's my limit."
Looking pitiful, Feng Yi pulled out four Federal coins: "I don't have six, this is all I brought."
The uncle was about to spew blood: "I didn't rob you of your equipment. Five is as low as I can go."
"Alright then, five it is." Feng Yi casually drew out a bill from the Space Crystal and reluctantly handed it over.
What the hell! The little shyster had a Space Crystal and still claimed to be poor. Damn it! At least the C device he was selling wasn't that great. This deal wasn't about the money anymore. A C device is worth more than this, but the main point was the seven-color bird, so the deal was settled within a minute.
From his conversation with Big Head, Feng Yi had learned about the seven-color birds. They were a type of bird that roamed around Yatu Town. With feathers of seven different colors that are quite distinctive, and a wingspan of about 10 meters.
My God! No wonder this planet is economically backward. With those kinds of monsters around, there must be significant obstacles to development. Even a little bit of land was worth a fortune. Startled, Feng Yi hurried off to discuss strategy with the Blade Warrior. However, the Blade Warrior was too involved in their own game and brushed him off, "How dare you, I won't lose to a machine! Stop joking."
"Hey, I'll wait for you at the town gate." Feng Yi finally left a message. He had initially planned to act alone. Given his efficiency, dealing with a seven-color bird would take only a few minutes, but he was worried the Blade Warrior would stir up trouble if they couldn't find him. This poor girl was not as well-behaved as imagined. Feng Yi guessed that the vending machine would have a miserable night. Even though he didn't know exactly what happened, he knew that given her nature, she might end up cleaning out all the prizes.
In a blink, Feng Yi was at the town's military assembly point. Looking at the bustling crowd below, he climbed up a tree effortlessly as if he was flying.
Not bad, the temporary assembly point was actually a chaotic marketplace. The warriors entering and exiting the town would usually conduct a final check of their equipment at the temporary camp. Many independent warriors would look for reliable teammates in the camp.
Either you needed to be immensely powerful or have a special skill or at least have a piece of powerful equipment. Otherwise, well, there wasn't otherwise. The world was just too real. You wouldn't be personally invited to join a team by an expert. However, there were always exceptions. In this lookist era, there were always people who managed to get by on looks alone. Countless girls gambled on their appearance. As long as they weren't too grotesque, there would surely be a few straight men inviting them to join their teams.
The prerequisite was, you had to be at least 16 years old. A child without even the right to carry a legal firearm wouldn't be taken seriously. It had to be said, most of the guys hanging around there were poor and had no equipment, or to make things worse, they were bringing kitchen knives, axes, and fire pokers looking for teammates.
The Invincible Squad was a perfect example. This poorly-equipped team consisted of three members: a nerdy boy, a silent girl, and someone Feng Yi recognized. She was the girl who had won something from the vending machine earlier. He wouldn't have guessed that the big Lolita would have such poor judgment. Despite having a medical kit, she chose these two losers as teammates.
Feng Yi, out of boredom, turned on the Combat Power Tester to observe... He found that the combined Combat Power of the three-person team was less than 1,000. Of the hundreds of people present, the highest individual combat power was just over 1,800. This was... somewhat embarrassing but it was within expectations. After all, his own combat power of 200,000 was honed on a harsh eight-times gravity planet, while these folks were still within the normal range.
"Hey, do you want to join our team?" Just then, the nerdy boy below boldly invited him to join their team.
He was stunned. Could this actually work? Feng Yi's first thought was that the kid must have paid for VIP service. He was found by a kid in his teens while a group of experts did not even notice him.
"Are you sure you want me in your team?"
"Yes, I am. Seeing you climb so high, you must have some skill."
The boy didn't know why, but even though the two were far apart, he felt like Feng Yi's voice was right beside him.
Feng Yi didn't want others to discover him. With a rush of cold wind, he appeared before the boy in less than half a second, leaving only a barely perceivable residual image in the air, "Are you really sure?"
"Yes, yes..." The boy was somewhat baffled. The guy was just far off, how did he suddenly appear by his side? Was he seeing things?
"Heh, to meet by chance is predestined. I won't stay in the team for long. When we encounter a seven-color bird, it's mine. That's all I ask." Feng Yi seemed very nonchalant.
So, he joined the team inexplicably. The hunters around looked at them, their gazes somewhat strange. One registered hunter was leading three novices. The bystanders couldn't help feeling pity for the most powerful girl in the team.
